Titans Continue To Play Word Games With The Redskins And Tampering

The Tennessee Titans want justice. They just don’t want to ask for it. That’s the import of Terry McCormick’s latest Nashville City Paper story regarding the NFL’s investigation as to whether the Redskins tampered with defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth, who signed a $100 million contract with Washington roughly five hours into free agency. Per McCormick, the Titans have not actually filed a complaint against the ‘Skins. Though NFL spokesman Greg Aiello previously has said (and reiterated to us today) that a formal complaint is not required to trigger the league’s involvement, the Titans surely did or said something to prompt the league to begin looking for proof of conduct in which most if not all teams engage at one time or another. As reported last month by Jim Wyatt of the Tennessean, the Titans asked the league to explore the matter. So why won’t the Titans simply call it what it is? Our guess is that the Titans are pondering very carefully the question of whether they are without sin, now that the first stone already is in the air.
