Winfield Not Present For Mandatory Vikings Minicamp

The Minnesota Vikings have launched their mandatory offseason minicamp.
And veteran cornerback Antoine Winfield isn’t there, according to the St. Paul Pioneer Press.
It’s unknown at this point whether his absence is excused or unexcused.
If unexcused, he would be subject to fines in the range of $15,000 per day.  He also would be subject to a partial signing bonus forfeiture.  However, as we recall his contract with the team, he received a large roster bonus in lieu of a signing bonus, since at the time he signed the Vikings had a significant amount of salary cap space.
Though Winfield and the Vikings have been at odds regarding a possible contract extension, teammates expected him to attend the mandatory weekend camp.  Absent a new deal, he’ll be an unrestricted free agent in 2010.

  1. under rated player but fact is he doesn’t get many picks. that will hurt his chances for bigger money.

  2. Pssssssst……..
He’s out of town attending a funeral of a close friend…..
Dig a bit before you do the “National Enquirer” headlines.

  3. Im surprised they didn’t post this under the headline
    “Winfield Want’s a new contract”
like they did with Donald Driver who by the way has practiced in Texas during these OTA’s for the last three years and said on the radio today “I am fine with my deal, they just have nothing to talk about”
