Burress’ Traffic Charges Dismissed

Although wide receiver Plaxico Burress is still dealing with a pending gun charge in New York that has jeopardized his freedom and NFL future, Burress did have a positive legal development in an unrelated matter. Burress had four traffic citations dismissed in Florida last Friday, according to Juan Ortega and Missy Diaz of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. Per the report, the former New York Giants player was cited on March 1 for speeding, improperly displaying a car tag, having improperly tinted windows, and making an unsafe lane change. However, all of those charges were thrown out. According to Burress’ lawyer, Bradford Cohen, the citations didn’t have the information for how Burress could pay or contest the fines. Cohen said that represented a violation of state law. However, Burress still has a pending separate case in Florida where he stands accused of cursing a deputy sheriff during a traffic stop on March 18. According to a police report, Burress, while talking on his cell phone, repeatedly told the officer, “F--- you.” He was charged with careless driving and is set to go to court June 24. Burress has a June 15 court date for his gun charge.
