Marty B, Uncensored

We’ve had a mixed experience with Cowboys tight end Martellus Bennett.  His ill-advised rapping debut caused us to conclude that he’s an idiot.  His blogging for the Dallas Morning News caused us to conclude that whoever decided to showcase his musings is an idiot, too.
But, along the way, we’ve concluded that he’s something of which the NFL can never have enough.
He’s a genuine character.
Bennett routinely reveals some of that stuff that makes him always unique and often humorous at his Twitter page, and he was the latest guest of Drew Magary’s Deadcast at Deadspin.
The highlights include Bennett’s observations on Oprah’s hair, the sounds dinosaurs made, and his mission statement from his time working as a lifeguard.  (“Once I get you out of the water, you’re on your own after that.”)
The summary is worth a read, and the interview is worth a listen.
So while the guy might or might not ever become a star player, he’s crafting a niche for himself with the kind of unpredictability and edginess that we haven’t seen before, even from folks who supposedly are unpredictable and edgy.

Kids if you’ve read the summary or listen to the interview… 3 words for ya: STAY IN SCHOOL.

What do you mean we haven’t seen? Isn’t this exactly what Cooley does in Washington, minus the pictures of his (very) little one?

I’ve seen homeless people who talk crazier than this guy – but not by much.

As a Giants fan, I can still say this guy is pretty entertaining.
He looks to be a pretty decent player too. He and Witten are likely to cause a lot of headaches for opponents in the red zone for the next several years.

I still want a copy of the original You Tube Marty B video that got yanked. Does anyone have a copy? He was drinking a 40z with his Cowboys helmet on!
Someone please tell me they have it !!

Haha Martellus is pretty funny but that host that’s interviewing him is a DOUCHE. He sucks up the whole time.

You should have heard about him. He had more TD catches last year as a rookie than than every player on the Eagirls except Westbrook.

    LOL(Laugh out loud)

  14. hamburglar says: Jun 1, 2009 7:37 PM

He is a nobody. Without Owens we will see how mediocre Witten looks on the underneath routes as well.

I don’t understand. Why are all these Cowboy fans beating their bologna over a guy that had 20 catches for 283 yards? Brent Celek had more yards and catches than that in the playoffs last year!!!!!

  16. Zach59 says: Jun 2, 2009 12:13 AM

Yup, because it’s not like Witten put up 800 yards without Owens with Vinny T throwing to him.
Seriously, do you people even know ANYTHING about football, or just pretend to try to sound smart?

who cares about his athletic ability? this article has nothing to do with that.
i didn’t care for him before, but reading that transcript, he’s pretty funny. at least it’s my kind of humor. I wouldn’t want to watch him play, but i’ll listen to him just muse about stuff.
