Browns Still Like Their Starting Corners

Even though the Cleveland Browns have been collecting cornerbacks like Jon Gruden harvests quarterbacks, new coach Eric Mangini says he’s still comfortable with the guys who started for the team in 2008. And so there’s a good chance that Brandon McDonald and Eric Wright will keep their spots at the top of the depth chart in 2009. But what of the fact that they both have periodically been torched? “Everybody gets beat deep,” Mangini said, according to the Orange & Brown Report. “But, as a corner you have to have a short memory and go back and go again or it will happen again.” The new arrivals under Mangni are Hank Poteat, Corey Ivy, Rod Hood, and rookie draft picks Don Carey and Coye Francies. Then again, it could be that Mangini is merely hoping to trade McDonald or Wright, and that he realizes he needs to pump them up in order to create some leverage.
