Simeon Rice Still Wants Back In

Former NFL defensive end Simeon Rice has taken his quest to return to the league directly to the web site owned by the league.
Rice conducted a chat today at NFL.com, and he once again acknowledged that he wants to return to pro football.
He said that he has had some contact with the Jets, but that “nothing happened.”
Even if Rice doesn’t make it back, he thinks he already deserves a spot in the Hall of Fame.  “If I don’t, it’s all BS!” he wrote.
He even says that he’d be the best defensive end in the game, if he gets back into the league.
Rice also claims that the feud between himself and former Bucs coach Jon Gruden was “blown out of proportion.”
Um, it was?  The last time we checked, it was Rice who was calling Gruden a “scumbag.”
Apparently, there’s an alternative definition of the term that doesn’t mean “bag of scum.”

He should call up Freddy Mitchell and Jeff George, maybe offer teams a package deal of has-beens (in Fred Ex’s case, a never-was).

In Rice’s defense, it’s not like he’s the only player in the league that doesn’t get along with Gruden. Keyshawn, Sapp, Michael Clayton, Jeff Garcia and numerous other players have had problems with Chuckie.

simeon, how about asking to be on MNF?

  4. GeauxSaints12 says: Jun 2, 2009 8:31 PM

Just give it up Rice. You told everyone that you want to play a long time ago if nobody has offered you a contract now. I guess that means no team wants you. If you want to play go to the UFL and try to prove it.

    Freddy Michell? Jeff George?
Was the point of this post to give douche chills to everyone that reads it? If so, I guess it worked….wow.
Fred-Ex saved McDuck’s ass in Green Bay, only to watch McFlabb spit the bit (and vomit) later. Hell, Jeff George coulda’ beat Arizona – Michael Silver and his pot buddy told me so.

I wonder how long it took Rice to create the fantasyland he lives in ?

Florio you’re not nearly as witty/funny as you think you are. Just so you know.

  9. myusernamestinks says: Jun 2, 2009 8:52 PM

Rice is the guy who complained about the press Pat Tillman got when he quit football to serve his country. If there was a hall of fame for NFL douchebags that don’t know when to shut their mouth, Simeon would be first ballot.

I was part of that live chat…I was not impressed by Rice at all. He’s one of my all-time favorite Bucs…but at this point it’s only for what he did on the field. Lost a lot of respect for the man this evening.

It’s too bad there isn’t a football equivalent of The Long Island Ducks.
With Simeon Rice, Vince Young and Freddie Mitchell, they would be formidable.

  12. Smush Rodrigez says: Jun 2, 2009 9:14 PM

I would give him a tryout

  13. Bucco Brewski says: Jun 2, 2009 9:26 PM

Stay with this Florio. People like Rice even though he has made some stupid decisions. He is a DE with the ego of a WR!

He was hurt his last year with the Bucs, so that really doesn’t tell us anything. But he couldn’t stick with the Colts later on when he was healthy. How is he supposed to have game now that he’s OLDER?
I suppose if he’d accept a veteran minimum contract with no signing bonus, laden with incentives if he performs, I’d give him a tryout.

  16. refuse2fail says: Jun 2, 2009 9:57 PM

Rice is/always has been a scumbag but I’m always up to see an old vet who truly wants to play get a shot. He has still got to be better than at least the bottom 25% of D Lineman in the league.

    Haha…”bag of scum”…priceless

    Simeon = Idiot.
The ONLY player sent home from the Pro Bowl – I think that about sums it up.
When exactly is he going to let it go already. We have heard this story forever now. Last year cut by the following:
    Buccaneers
    Broncos
    Colts
    enough already……
    Scumbag!

I wouldnt mind see Carolina giving him or Kevin Carter a tryout after Peppers leaves town…

  20. Mistress Rachael says: Jun 3, 2009 7:47 AM

You have got to be kidding me????….Did Rice EVER make a run tackle in his career?…God even Joey Porter is better vs the run than Rice…and he’s in the bottom 20% in the NFL

  21. rsj219 says: Jun 3, 2009 8:21 AM

Simeon Rice is the Deion Sanders of defensive ends, no ability to stop the run. A cornerback can get away with that a DE can’t. If this over-rated piece of crap makes the HOF they may as well blow it up.

No, douchebag. The point of bringing up those players is that they’re also in the “Hey, everybody look at me! I can still play” club. Get a clue.

  23. db3300 says: Jun 3, 2009 9:37 AM

I’m pretty sure that Rice is behind me and a few others here in the HOF pecking order.

  24. bslama says: Jun 3, 2009 9:41 AM

Somehow I see Simeon Rice having a tell-all book or a breakdwon confessional of his life off the field in the not too distant future…
I’ll give the guy credit, he must have one helluva publicist, he is on NFL.com, PFT, 2 live Stews and seemingly somewhere new every other week…
Although, he should also be getting the point by now…NOBODY WANTS HIM IN THEIR LOCKER ROOM.
I have heard that while in Indianapolis, he interrupted the team prayer after his only game and made an ass of himself at halftime by singing while Teerlink was telling him his blown assignments…Two big no-no’s in a Dungy locker room
The guy is a mental midget and should be examined for mental health issues…

omg are u guys serious in your comments!!!! the only thing simeon rice is guilty of is being too honest and not being “politically correct”. gruden is getting a better reputation but he is very hard on his players. even i wanted to smack him sometimes just for that look on his face and the disrespect he has shown in the past. it is a fine line to walk between player and coach and when your winning everyone puts up with it easier; when you start losing everyone gets frustrated. even warren sapp had some negative things to say about gruden.. the way i see it his passion can get in the way of progress sometimes.. as far as the tillman comments; maybe he has a negative outlook towards the military!!! i know i appreciate our guys that are willing to fight for the u.s. because i sure am not gunna!!! my father fought at vietnam and at 65 years old they are still making him fight a war to get his benefits and the things he deserves for risking his life for the “country”. it sure is a nice thanks for his effeorts(no sarchasm there}. ………………………all that being said simeon rice was one of the best and if he can bring 90% of that fire i would sign him in a heartbeat for my DETROIT LIONS!!!! come mr. scwartz what do you have to lose!!!simeon would be a definate upgrade at he end spot especially on 3rd down…SO I VOTE FOR DETROIT AS A LANDING SPOT!!! HES BETTER THAN THE NEWLY SIGNED JASON HUNTER FOR SURE!!

dear simeon today is the day that the Lord has made. Its a blessing just to be in the land of the living. Forget about the nay sayers, and the haters, they will always be around as long as you live. i,ve learned that in this life we have many tests its up to you how you fight this good fight of faith, whether you lashe ouy with your tongue at folks, or do you humble yourself and let God, fight your battles. Think about it if God, wants you to be in a place, at an ordain time it will happen, just because of who God, is in your life. God, did not bring you this far, so dont give up, because of what you see before is just an illusion, if God, said it, you got to believe that he will take you all the way there. Please remember keep God, first in everything that you do. its not about you but its about God.
