Well, here we are, three years later, and what has happened so far? The Jets did make it to a couple of AFC Championship games, beating the Pats in the 2010 playoffs in the process, but the Pats have been back to the SB in the same time span, and they have dominated the AFC East as well. The Jets? They’ve brought Tim Tebow to back up Sanchez, with poor results, and the Jets as a team have sunk to new levels of mediocrity. Rex Ryan won’t have to worry about kissing Belichick’s rings, since he’ll be kissing some NFL GM’s ass for a job real soon!

FINALLY…someone who is just making a statement in defense, and one I would have to agree with. I am a die hard Yankees fan, but I am not too sure which event was a bigger choke.
Also, all you have to say is how nice its been to enjoy championships in the last decade or so, just as I felt through the 90′s in NY. Respect for you footballnut, I look forward to good football this year in the AFC East!

Also I don’t know how people can describe the patriots loss to the giants in the superbowl as choking. Brady scored on his 2nd to last drive and there was probably a 1% chance that he could of scored on his last drive. The giants were a top 5 team last year and finished first in the nfc. So losing a superbowl to a top 3 team in the nfc is choking? Haha I’ll take winning 3 out of 4 superbowls over whatever the jets have accomplished…. The Jets don’t have a proven QB. I think they’ll be pretty good this year as long as they run the ball and they are a good team on paper. But the cowboys are also a great team on paper and couldn’t even make the playoffs.
Also the red sox have owned the yankees the last couple of years so I don’t know what the jets/yankee fan is talking about. The kid probably can’t even name half the players on the jets haha

When are teams going to learn not to give the patriots bulletin board material? (see freddie mitchel in pats/ eagles superbowl)
What message has he sent to the patriots? Maybe it was taken out of context but either way the Jets have been running their mouths a little which I don’t mind. Such as Kerry Rhodes saying they were the best defense and that he feels for any team that has to face them. Hopefully they keeps talking crap, it makes it interesting.
Did he forget that he has a rookie QB??? The patriots destroy Rookie Qb’s. I can’t wait to see Moss catching bombs running by kerry rhodes. Either way it’s going to be an interesting season this year in the AFC EAST.

Given these facts, Ryan is in no position to be talking about sending messages to the Patriots or saying they should “read between the lines”. The only message that matters would be beating the Pats on the field. And given the Jets QB situation coming into 2009, I find it very hard to believe the Jets will be beating the Patriots in week 2 with or without a healthy Tom Brady.

The bottom line is that all of your alleged “football discussion” refers to the past, as does what I mentioned regarding the Yankees, so in reality it matters little in any discussion of future performance of either team. Rex Ryan has proven himself on the defensive side of the ball with the Ravens and is qualified to make positive comments regarding the future performance of his team, particularly on the defensive side of the ball. Just because Pats fans always want to come onto these boards with a chip on their shoulders does not mean that Ryan was shooting off his mouth. He merely stated that he would not be intimidated by anyone, including Belichick, and that “we would see” what happened in Week 2 next season. Only you pathetic Pats fans see any sort of boasting in that comment. The rest of us see a coach that is eager to test his new team against the team of a coach that has been around for a while longer than Ryan has. But keep convincing yourself that you know better, haywoodjablowbillbelichick, because the same overconfidence by you and the rest of your fellow Pats fans got punctured like a balloon two Super Bowls ago, and like the rest of the NFL fans here, I enjoyed it immensely. Everyone loves to see pompous asses like you all taken down when it matters most.

I always wondered why he didn’t get a HC job before now. Now I know why. If he interviews like he has talked for the past few months, I wouldn’t want him to be the face of my team and deal with the media either.
I get that this is the way he talks. But as the guy who is going to be talking to the media about the team constantly, he needs to learn to express himself a little less aggressively. If he wants to talk ish about the Pats to his team behind closed doors, go for it Rex. I am pretty sure every HC probably does that to a certain extent. Nothing wrong with it.
As a Pats fan, I don’t think he should “kiss BB’s rings” or anything but the fact of the matter is that since he took this job, his mouth has been writing a whole helluva lot of checks that he’d better hope there’s money in the bank to pay for. And he has absolutely no success as a HC behind him to back any of this up. Swagger (which I hate anyway) is a bit pathetic before you have anything to have swagger OVER.

Exactly – talk is cheap. Pats have proven themselves where it matters – on the field. Team of the decade with only Pittsburgh having some sort of argument – although Pats lead over Steelers this decade in all key barometers (Super Bowls won, overall winning %, etc – and beat Pitt in Pitt the two times they met in the play-offs).
To continue with Florio’s Rocky theme, I will move to Rocky IV and quote academy award winning actor Dolph Lundgren (pause for laughter) playing Ivan Drago “You (Jets) will lose”. There are reasons Pats are something like 19-5 against the Jets in the BB era – BB, owenership, talent, skill, luck, etc. None of them involve yapping 3-4 months in advance.
Barring another big Brady injury, Pats are looking at a likely 12-15 win season and Super Bowl. From NFC, I think it will be Giants or Eagles with Saints and Seattle as potential sleepers.
