Cutler’s actions speak for themselves. During his three seasons in Denver, after a bad series or an interception, he could often be found sitting alone on the bench rather than reviewing the game data with his coaches. His attitude during postgame news conferences was often described as petulant. His poor handling of the fallout with McDaniels and subsequently the Broncos has been well documented.
As to his play, sure, he threw for alot of yards but his offense ranked only 16th in points scored. It was even worse the year before.
In Chicago, he inherits unproven receivers, an inferior offensive line and all that pressure from one of the nation’s largest media markets who’s fans expect nothing less than a return to the Superbowl in the very near future.
It’ll be interesting to see how he handles the pressure when things don’t go his way on the field and afterwards, in the media.

Dungy shouldn’t be criticized for stating an opinion – But his creditability should be brought into question. There’s a history of him being hypocritical, waffling, and generally acting like he’s better than everyone else. I won’t condemn an opinion, call him racist or any of that – but I will call him a complete jackass moron.
Let look at Vick’s maturity, both personally and professionally: Felon/weed smoker who went bankrupt but wanted to keep multiple houses, cars, and even explicitly a Ms. Pacman game (probably because she’s the only girl in the world who understand his incredible munchies); he also flipped the bird to his entire home fan base at a game – Great professional leadership.
And in terms of saying the Bears gave up a lot to get Cutler as a risk, sure. But how much of a PR, team chemistry, and football risk is Vick? Is it worth paying him the league minimum to have PETA at all your games, possible fan boycotts, and possibly have a VERY divided locker room? And by the way, he was a mediocre QB.
And whoever took a shot about Dungy’s kid, youre a tool – I’m 25 with no kids and know that’s crossing a line

again some of you miss the whole point .Dungy makes a statement concerning Jay Cutler and to many of you it is as if it is an abomination.Jay Cutler is not God,he is a flawed character both personally, athletically,and emotionally as we all are.And Tony Dungy simply gave his view on them.I myself have had an issue with Dungy too ,such as when his Colts team laid down a couple of years ago ,not playing his best players and losing to tennesee and denying the browns a playoff birth,but to characterize him as racist,moronic and self-serving is ridiculous.As far as his concern for Vick,Dungy as well as myself believe in personal redemption,he served his time for his offence so who our we to judge him …On a different note i say Denver WILL HAVE a better record than the Bears we will see…

As a Pats fan, I grin reading the negative comments about Dungy. This is how a majority of us felt when he would smack the Pats verbally over cameragate, etc WHILE HE WAS COACHING. Now that he’s media, it’s his job. It’s far far worse to do it while coaching.
I dislike him but have never seen evidence of his being racist.

I couldn’t possibly agree with either of you more.
I won’t repeat your comments, but your assessments are 100% on target regarding Cutler.
He was run out of town by a punk head coach who has never coached a game in the NFL and a moronic owner who allowed it. The Broncos have disintegrated into a NFL laughingstock in a mere 4 months since McDaniels arrived.
No one in Denver questioned Cutler’s maturity, leadership, intelligence, desire to win, or dedication until, McDouchbag arrived with an agenda to run Cutler out and bring Cassell in. But he was outsmarted by Bellicheck who sent Cassell to KC for next to nothing. Cassell may indeed be a good QB at some point, but Cutler already was a very good QB.
Dungy is not believable when he questions Cutler’s leadership and in the same breath suggests Michael Vick deserves another chance in the NFL. Cutler had the balls to stand up to McDouchebag and Bowlen and demand a trade because he believe he had been lied to by both, Vick electrocuted the balls off innocent dogs.
And Dungy has faith in him? At this point I don’t put much credence in what Dungy says or thinks.

I am never going to suggest that Cutler is a model of maturity; far from it. But for Dungy to clearly support Vick in the face of the atrocities he committed and the bold faced lies he told to so many, well that reinforces a very clear fact for anyone who has read Tony Dungy’s quotes over the years:
The man is clearly a racist.
Micheal Vick can torture and murder animals, run a gambling ring, smoke more weed than a dorm room full of stoners, lie about his name while passing along STD’s to women, and Dungy is cool with him. Jay Cutler makes some stupid statements to get himself traded, and HE’S immature?
Clearly Tony, your bias is once again showing.

The verdict on Cutler isn’t going to be known for a while, so all of this is speculation. Dungy is just giving an opinion. Here’s my take on Cutler. The guy played for Vandy and every year got his ass handed to him game after game. But he didn’t fold. He slowly learned to cope with a situation where 300 pound dudes would be rushing at him essentially all the time. And those lessons were a huge benefit when he started his pro career. From a “football maturity” perspective he’s probably pretty mature – he’s had an expedited curriculum. Which means that I don’t think he’s going to have any problems on the field with knowing how to get the job done. From the perspective of “leadership maturity” it’s an unknown. Part of the problem with playing on a losing team year after year during a critical time of your development, is that you can begin to accept losing. Does Cutler know what kind of culture he needs to foster to promote winning? That has yet to be seen. I think if Chicago gets behind him and gives him the keys it’s quite possible he’ll accept the challenge. McDaniels wasn’t about to do that and so maybe the move was the best thing for both sides.

Yea, I kinda have to agree here on him questioning the maturity of Cutler. Leadership is one thing, but maturity? As damn near everyone’s pointed out he supports a felon who broke god knows how many laws (but thanks to Poindexter for only letting him get charged with 1-2), had a secret weed compartment in a water bottle, and specifically listed a Ms. Pacman game as somethign he wanted to keep even though he filed for bankruptcy.
Yet this is more mature than a 25 year old who goes boozing a few nights and getting pissed off when his new coach (allegedly ) lies stright to his face?
Brilliant Tony Dungy, this lapse in character judgment might rank right up there with Dirk Nowitzki having a serious relationship with a ex-stripper with 8 aliases who didn’t know she was pregnant until she got arrested for trespassing.

No. Furthermore, I don’t know if “a highly respected Dungy” will be so highly respected for much longer. The man is clearly an ignorant racist if he can look at Vick and call him a better man than Cutler, not to mention his only SB appearance in all his years as a coach came on an admitted blown call. To hell with him.
As for Cutler. He gave everything he had to Denver, and damn near made the playoffs, despite his health problems, despite the WR drama, despite the plethora of injuries that made a rookie start at both LB and FB, despite the defense blowing more leads than GB’s.
Enter McDaniels, a man who had never coached a game, never done anything at all except hang on Belichick’s coattails, and already was being viewed as another Weiss/Mangini/Crennell to boot, and he clearly wanted to replace Cutler from the start. Cutler had every right to be offended upon trying to be run out of town for no clear reason save cronyism. McDaniels is in over his head. Denver will have a Top 5 pick for sure, and then maybe Bowlen will realize what he did.
Cutler is clearly the epitome of a team player and a very talented QB. I am not happy at all about having to face him twice a year now. If Dungy can’t see that, it says a lot about what kind of man Dungy really is.

Ok ok ok, everyone talks about the hypocritical opinion on Cutler/Vick.
Did anyone notice how much false info this “analyst” fed the world in the story?
First, the Bears traded for him due to the press and man coverage of the Packers. Ummm, hello, they switched defenses this offseason to the 3-4 under Capers, who will have them playing mostly zone coverages.
Second, the Bears motivation is to beat the Packers, something that they have done quite well since Lovie took over (7-3 vs. GB, even dominating them in Lameblow). I think Lovie has done quite well there.
Tony is not only hypocritical, he doesn’t deliver good info.

As a Pats fan, I gotta give Dungy credit. He’s actually making sense for once. I am shocked that colt fans disagree with him, maybe you’re mad because he’s just speaking the truth. Dungy, gives proper credit where it’s due and discredits what deserves to be discredited. Cutler is an arrogant punk who forced his way out of Denver + is showing that attitude in Chicago now. As for his supporting of Micheal Vick, maybe he just sees it as it is, Vick is a changed man. Tony Dungy is making alot of sense for once and I appreciate that.
