The Indianapolis Colts have announced that kicker Adam Vinatieri recently has undergone hip surgery.
The purpose of the procedure was “to relieve nagging discomfort in his right hip.”
The release from the team states that Vinatieri has been dealing with the condition for more than a year, and that it “became more bothersome recently.”
The statement indicated the surgery was performed in Colorado, by Dr. Marc Philipon, who recently operated on Alex Rodriquez of the N.Y. Yankees.
Dr. Philipon, per the Colts, believes that this procedure will not limit Adam’s availability for the 2009 season.

Get well Adam, my favorite Colt….
Adam who?
Seriously though, while he had legendary moments with the Patriots, those memories seem to slip further and further away each year I see him in a Colts uniform…part of me wishes New England had held onto him.
But on the other hand, while he’s had some success with Indy, he’s also been erratic, and time has proven that Belichick and Pioli made the right move to let Adam walk and draft Gostkowski.
So this guy has worked on A-Rod and Adam Vinatieri? Kind of funny. He’s performed surgery on the most clutch player in professional sports, and the least clutch player in professional sports.
Greatest Clutch Kicker in NFL history. Should go to the hall of fame for sure.
how did New England know this would happen?
Favorite Vinatieri related quote from Teddy Bruschi during coin toss of Patriots-Colts game 2007:
Vinatieri: Heads
Referee: Its tails
Bruschi: Wrong again, Adam!
I hope this was listed on the Colts injury report!!
Great guy, damn good kicker, but it sure seems like New England knows when to let someone else overpay for a player who has just passed his prime and is on the downhill slide.
Many happy memories Adam, but you’ve been successfully replaced here.
