Rex Ryan Keeps Jabbing At Channing Crowder

There was a school of thought in league circles that Rex and Rob Ryan, the sons of former Bears defensive coordinator and Eagles and Cardinals head coach Buddy Ryan, faced stiff challenges in landing head-coaching jobs due to concerns that they would be too much like their fiery and feisty father. And, before the first Buddy Ryan offspring even has coached his first game, he’s sounding a lot like his fiery and feisty father. Jets coach Rex Ryan has continued his verbal back-and-forth with Dolphins linebacker Channing Crowder. (We think they’re now up to Round Seven or something.) “The only thing I can say is, let’s see if he can top this one, I’ve walked over tougher guys going to a fight than Channing Crowder,” Ryan said Wednesday in comments circulated by the team. “The dude’s going to kill me. We’ll make that trade. Throw us both out, we’ll make that trade. I don’t think it would hurt that much anyway. You can’t hit what you can’t see. Trust me, he can send himself and his father after me. I don’t think I’ve ever lost a fight, so we’ll see. And I’m going to get some tats and stuff like that, so I’ll be ready for him.” If Rex Ryan is getting Crowder riled up because Ryan believes that, by getting in Crowder’s head, the player will be less effective, then we say, “Bravo.” But if Ryan is just being gratuitous, he’s making a huge mistake. Why give Crowder even more motivation to bring everything he can when the Dolphins face the Jets this year? Meanwhile, Crowder might have competition in the quest to kick Rex Ryan’s ass. His brother, Rob, will now face even greater concerns that, as a head coach, he’ll be a loose cannon.
