Last week, FOX’s Jay Glazer said that he wanted to help transform Cardinals backup quarterback Matt Leinart from a “pretty boy” into a “killer.”
Earlier this week, video of the effort emerged.
Here it is. Drop your comments below.

Im at work and can’t watch. Someone please describe!
I’m more scared of Dustin Diamond than Matt Leinart.
He could’ve got a sharper “edge” by attending this camp that I know of in Parris Island, SC. He would’ve got paid to go there too!
Can’t Leinart get a real mma trainer?
um, Yeah…
this would be great to do…
if you played defense.
Kurt can sit on the coach all day and still throw a more accurate pass than Leinart. It’s that what matters?
Matt should stick to being a backup QB, Jay Glazer actually knows what he’s doing.
yeah ok. don’t think leinart will be intimidating anyone anytime soon.
Boy you wouldn’t want to be on the receiving end of his ground assault… haha Did Jay teach him that ‘flurry’?
Why is one of the members of the Lollipop Guild working with an overrated backup NFL quarterback on MMA?
Rampage Jackson has found his next oppopent. Can’t wait to see the fight. Should be a good one!
leinart will be ready, when the time comes
Leinart is such a pussy. Pete Carroll messed up by having him start over Cassell. Leinart should just quit.
HAHAA the shirt Leinart is wearing is a carbon-copy of the ones the Browns wore when John Lott was the S&C coach in Cleveland. He had that “Get Your Mind RIght” thing plastered all over the locker room
What a pussy. “Effort” is about all that’s there. Dropping his hands after punching, anticipating the sprawls, knees like a girl, Leinart would last about 30 seconds against an amateur fighter.
The guy looks like a wuss, especially when he’s straddling the bag and giving it a bunch of little noogies. WTF?
So now he can shadowbox on the sidelines while watching Warner play?
This seems like just a classic waste of time. How is this going to make him a better quarterback?
Leinart fights more like a lamb than a lion. Silly Matthew, you’ll always be Kurt’s biotch!
If Ryan Bader ever becomes a Master of Karate will his students address him as Master Bader?
Yeah but can he beat these two guys?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Ue4oR8pc8k
Wow he really looks like an average joe… he’s supposed to be an elite athlete right..geeze i’m in better shape then him. Hit the gym hollywood..
His punching actually looks pretty solid. That clinch work and those knees need a lot of work though. That sprawl is slow and way too narrow as well.
I don’t see how this is going to make him a better QB
Seems like a pretty standard lame Fox segment that nobody cares about. Did Jay Glazer send you a message on twatter to post this? Man, he’s so hard.
Leinart looks gay. (Not that there is anything wrong with that)
And just exactly how is becoming a “killer” going to help Leinert become a good NFL quarterback?
Maybe he should go train with Montana, Marino, Manning, etc. instead of slapping hands against pads and looking stupid.
Lets see him and ochocinco fight, then we’ll know if he’s a “killer”.
Just dont go train with to Brady, oops……I meant Mr. Gisele, cause all Leinert will learn is how to follow her around like a puppy dog, sniff her panties, and fall out of kayaks.
This video should result in this “killer’s” career receiving the death penalty.
At what point in the workout does Matt Leinart carry a clipboard?
At what point during the workout does Leinart carry a clipboard?
I heard that Matt and Jose Conseco are scheduled to perform tag team at a elementary school near you
Wow…I’m shocked reading this thread of comments. Much like Favre over the last few years, it’s become very “in” to bash this kid. And he’s earned a lot of that. But I think differently. Hes spent time with Tom Brady this off season. He’s doing this stuff to train differently and gain a swagger. He’s trying….and I wouldn’t be surprised if at some point this season via injury, he gets his shot at starter in Arizona and never looks back. I think he’s primed to finally arrive in the NFL. If effort counts for anything, he will flourish I think.
I’ve walked over tougher guys than that on my way to a fight.
Im taking him as my #1 QB in FF next year because of this, he is gonna be awesome.
can anyone imagine how much more horrible Matt would be if he wasn’t throwing to the best receiving core in the league behind a great pass protecting O-line.
they should trade him for anyone.
even jay fiedler would be good on that team
There goes Glazer’s objectivity down the crapper. “I couldn’t be more impressed with the guy.” No shit Jay. You want other athletes to pay you for this service now. And who would do that if you spoke your mind and trashed a player, no matter how lazy? Bottom line is Glazer has lost the ability to report on this objectively, so he shouold refrain from praising or trashing his clients publicly. He has too.
The fact that he has a Fox microphone during some of this is just a slap in the face to the viewer. It’s essentially an infomercial.
I love how Matty is humping the weight bag. He was really pounding it.
Killer he is not and will never be through this type of “training”.
In that entire video clip, I never saw him get hit, take a punch, get kicked or thrown to the mat. Get one on the jaw Leinfart and we’ll see how much of a killer you are. Get one of those knees in the groin or stomach, and lets see if you get up. Get put in a strangle hold, and lets see if you tap out. You want to be a killer, get into the ring against an opponent and lets see what you are made of.
You either have the attitude or you don’t. Leinart never looked comfortable, except when he was playing Double Dutch.
Not a Leinert hater……but I’ve seen more ‘pop’ in a can of diet coke.
Not sure this helps his rep.
What will happen first? A Leinart in the UFC or Romo in the US Open or Favre not acting like a jackass?
And how exactly will this help him bong more beers with underage girls?
I think sombebody mentioned this last week. Why isn’t anybody talking about Glazer’s clear conflict of interest here. He “trains” NFL players as well as “reports” on them? Glazer is a tool
He’d beat Warner’s old ass with or with out training and to top it off he can kick Bren in the balls.
It’s the new wanna-be badass anthem.. “I train in MMA”. Just ask the guys that “ride Harley’s”, “are in the Military”, “just got out of jail”, “testing for my black belt”, etc.
You guys are pretty hard on Leinart.
Couple things – MMA training is INSANELY hard. I was an amateur boxer (a bad one at that) and I was in crazy good shape, I did some MMA training and it will blow your mind. I would bet that most of PFT planet could not come even close to completing a 90 minute MMA training session. Every muscle in your body is used and pushed extremely hard.
FTR – That bag is 150 lbs, you try going on your back and getting that bag up on your legs like that, it looks easy but its not.
When Matt gets on top of the bag of course he isnt throwing real punches. Understand the bag is in the ground so it has no give. Of course an NFL QB wouldnt throw real punches in that situation. Anyone could easily sprain/break their fingers/wrist/hand by doing that.
The point of this is that Leinart is taking his training seriously, he is preparing his mind and body for the rigors of the NFL season. I seriously doubt that Matt is considering a run in MMA, and if he is working that hard I imagine he is doing more QB specific mental preparation. Yeah maybe Kurt has another year in him, but Leinart is still a young guy that has a future as a starting NFL QB.
I dont see Vince Young doing this.
I know he parties with girls and knocked up the blonde basketball player, but man I would swear he is gay. And it sure seems like a conflict of interest for Glazer. Not the gay thing, coaching a guy he covers.
Great, next time Leinart gets into a fight I won’t be as worried for him.
But does Glazer also have a killer throwing program? That seems to be Leinart’s biggest issue on the field.
Joe Kapp has pieces of guys like this in his shit.
I’m not sure who is the bigger douchebag – Jay Glazer or Matt Leinart. I’m going with Glazer. Get a life, dude. You are a midget, meathead who thinks he’s cool because he works at FoxSports.com…wooooo…woooo.
And, Matty, don’t lay down to do interviews. You look like a tool. Show some professionalism. Actually play before you start doing stuff like this.
To me, it looks an awful lot like a bad movie. I can see Will Ferrell as a laughed-at former first-round draft pick, trying to work his way back into the starting lineup. Lamest pushups I’ve ever seen — no effort to get his thighs and knee off the mat.
You guys are being ridiculous.
This will give Leinart a MENTAL edge. It has nothing to do with punching or kicking or whatever the hell MMA does. Kudos to him for fighting and clawing to try and improve his career.
well said RickHarris, 99% of these chumps talking smack would be sucking wind and puking in 10 minutes of that training. trust me on that. It’s extremely taxing and difficult. best cardio by far and works every muscle.
This may be the funniest post on the entire board:
“I heard that Matt and Jose Conseco are scheduled to perform tag team at a elementary school near you ”
How about we put matsy up against Ron Artest… Maybe his first match can be against McLovin…
hey, he obviously is not on TV for football, anyone want to get him on TV? I say we put a tape into Mayhem and say Leinert bullies us… Than he can take the training to the ring AND get to be on TV…
here killer, here killer, here killer… good poodle!
As soon as an MMA video is put on this site, all of a sudden 90% of the people on here are fighters, badasses and MMA experts. I just think it’s funny. As far as what this’ll do for him on the field? Yes, it’ll help his mobility and (possibly?) arm strength, but not his decision-making/mentality, accuracy, etc. BS publicity stunt.
That looks like a lot of fun. If it’s for real it will show up in game because having a stronger core, and better balance will make it tougher to sack him.
This video reminds of the Andy Griffith episode when Barney decided to take Karate.
Who’s Matty going to train with next, The Village People ?
Well, I give major props to a guy who’s obviously trying any and everything he can to turn around his career.
That takes courage and heart to stop what you’ve been doing and go down a whole new path.
As someone who’s played all the major sports and I have to say that training in anything related to the combat arts (MMA,boxing, amateur wrestling, etc.) is among the most intense and seriously challenging training found anywhere.
It’s not hard to understand why the importance of this training eludes all the plump little couch potatoes and players of video games who’ve never broken a sweat or mixed it up in a ring before. Your clueless comments and snotty remarks reveal you for the lazy cowards you are as you sit back, eating your Cheet-Ohs criticizing anyone who’s out there working hard to improve themselves.
hey thats my gym. I train there! w00t.
I train at nights and have seen Leinert in there once but its good to see the place where i get turned into a pretzel on a youtube video.
As former Akido trainer who dabbled in Muay Tai, I take offense at this lame-ass publicity stunt. He is breaking a sweat, but his effort is just not there, which means his mind is not. I guarantee someone sold him on this idea as being good for his rep. On the contrary, I think this cements it.
He does his best work in a hot tub with a beer bong and underage girls. Stay away from the real man’s world. It only exposes you for the fraud you really are – kinda like when Pee Wee Herman visits the gym.
Leinart is such a bum. Could he be any slower? At least when Ochocinco was fighting he was looking fast. Personally, I think Chad would mop the floor with Leinart. Actually, they should get Leinart, Vince, Jamarcus, and all the rest of these crappy quarterback busts and just make them fight each other. I’m sure the fans of those teams would love to watch them get their asses kicked.
Kenpoblade…”that takes courage and heart to stop what you’ve been doing and go down a whole new path.” While that statement, in and of itself, is true…not in this case. Not slighting MMA training at all…undboutedly tough and physically taxing. But, what the hell does it have to do with becoming a better quarterback? I guess now when Leinart throws an INT, he can get the corner in a great half guard and maybe throw and omaplata on his ass. This is like saying, I want to become the world’s greatest writer so I’m going to take an archery course. If Leinart wants to be better, busting his ass in the octagon will not translate to more accurate passes or a better knowledge of opposing defenses. Put more work in with field mechanics, as well as the film room.
I didn’t know they were doing a Karate Kid remake–Hey Matt do the Crane!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pYE4fNQKTs4
I’ve never seen a scrawnier athlete in my life.
He’s not going to be doing this cr@p to individuals on the opposing defense in a game, so what’s the deal… is this just to boost his confidence when his girlfriend bitch slaps his dumb @ss silly!!?
This has already been said, but oh well…this does not make him a better QB. If he was, well, practically any other position on the team, i’d be all for it…but he’s a QB. He needs to work on accuracy, timing with WR’s, and most importantly, he needs to spend a lot more time in the film room. I’d like to hear what Whisenhunt thinks about this…and not the answer he’d give to the media.
What does Warner do in his spare time? Unfortunately, this guy is going to be a backup for the rest of his career.
All you morons have no clue about MMA training if you think what he’s doing is easy and has no value to his NFL ability.
I should add that the value of MMA training will help him think better under pressure, have greater endurance, more durability, quicker movement in general, improved arm speed/strength, strategic thinking and aggressive attitude.
You guys are talking trash like he is doing this for fighting purposes. He is doing it so he has better balance and a stronger core. Why do you think Brady’s trademark shoulder drop to get away from the pass rush works? It’s because of his core strength. A lot of your zip on passes also comes from the core. I don’t think he will light up the NFL, but what he is doing does make sense. So all you retards should go kill yourself or actually learn something about the game you claim to love.
Silvino, the whole video, all everyone talks about is how Leinart is more mentally tough because of this MMA training. Great… if punching a bag and breaking a sweat = greater mental toughness, Leinart has never faced anything mentally tough in his life.

Great so he can throw quicker interceptions, harder, more aggressively while strategically thinking that someone better tackle that guy ’cause he’s a QB and QBs don’t tackle. That what Cards fans want in their QB. Oh wait, he only hold the clipboard.
What I meant to say is: So he can grab the clip board quicker, harder and more aggressively while strategically thinking about how to keep the papers from flying off the clipboard so the coach won’t be mad. Oh wait, he spends his time in a hottub with underage girls and a beer bong.
So what I really meant to say is: So he can grab his d!ck quicker, harder and more aggressively, while strategically thinking about that 17 year old blonde with the big tits holding the beer bong! Yes! That’s what Cards fans want in their QB!!
I have to admit I laughed at most of the comments here, but I also realize that Joe Montana himself would have looked like a fish out of water trying this sort of thing too.
This has no bearing on QB skills. That said, Leinart has shown few skills in his career to date.
i hate to quote colin cowherd ..but he said that the great quarterbacks really arent workout warriors..thats generally true.. joe montana was a scrawny guy that lookd as intimidating as a golden retriver..but he was a great leader and had intangibles….this training shows effort but i think time would be better spent watching film or throwing .. i do think its premature to bury him..warner is a great qb..maybe Hall of fame.. that not that many could beat out
At least Leinart has that “getting his ass kicked” thing to fall back on after he rides the pine for his entire rookie contract…
Jay Glazer is everything that is wrong with Earth.
Why is Glazer wearing “jams”
