Plaxico Hearing Continued

It widely was believed that, during Monday’s hearing in the criminal case pending against free-agent receiver Plaxico Burress, we’d find out if/when Burress will be standing trial on charges relating to weapons charges arising from the blasting of a hole through his leg with an unlicensed and loaded weapon.
As it turns out, we won’t be finding out anything on Monday, at least not from the formal legal proceedings.
Per Tom Rock of Newsday, the June 15 hearing will be continued.  Attorney Benjamin Brafman told Rock that, at the hearing, an adjournment will be requested and granted.
The same thing happened in March.  At the time, the thinking was that a plea bargain was in the works.
If it was, Burress ultimately opted not to take the deal.
The problem for Burress is that, until it’s clear that a trial won’t occur durring the 2009 season, no one will sign him.
Agent Drew Rosenhaus has said that three teams are interested in Burress, but Rosenhaus has declined to identify them.  It’s widely believed that the teams are the Jets, Bears, and Buccaneers.

The guy has second amendment rights. The whole case should not have happened.
The American people have the right to carry firearms.
Discharging into his own leg is penalty enough for him to learn about holster safety.

Plax is dillusional if he thinks he’s not going to spend at least a little time as a guest of the state at beautiful Rykers Island.

Wow, I never expected to hear that in a bit about a court case. Just tell us when something actually happens.

Are you retarded? You do not have the right to CARRY A FIREARM INTO A CROWDED BAR. You have the right to OWN a firearm, not to carry and brandish it… in SWEATPANTS. What would you be saying if he shot someone else instead of himself?

So this won’t be settled until after the season starts, so I guess as to playing this year, no. Smart Move Plax!
I’m a gun owner and licensed to carry, but even then there are restrictions that say where and when you can carry, and common sense that says don’t carry in a crowded bar and also not secured in a holster. Also he wasn’t licensed, the restrictions were in place and any RESPONSIBLE owner would know them since they would receive a copy during their training and when they went in to receive their permit. And please no argument that he was licensed in FL, because he wasn’t. He was once, but not at that time. If I were the prosecuter, I would decrease my offer as the season gets closer. 90 days in jail now, 120 in July, 180 in August, 240 in September. And no Alford plea allowed.
