Agent: Broncos Will Try To Trade Marshall

At a time when we’re hearing rumblings that the Denver Broncos are content to squat on the final year of receiver Brandon Marshall’s contract, his agent tells Josina Anderson of FOX 31 that, as reported Monday by Adam Schefter, Marshall has asked for a trade.
The agent also says that the Broncos agreed to try to trade Marshall.
“Yes there was a meeting between Brandon, and Mr. [Pat] Bowlen,” Kennard McGuire told Anderson.  “There was a request for a trade.  Mr. Bowlen has said that ownership will do everything in it’s [sic] power to accommodate his wishes.”
The Broncos told Anderson that they have no comment.
But what if Bowlen didn’t say what McGuire says that he said?
And what if Marshall thinks Bowlen did say what Marshall says that he said?
We see another huge mess coming on this one, and McGuire already seems to be playing the role of Bus Cook.
As we mentioned last night, rumors already are flying that the Ravens might make a play for Marshall.

The Broncos may very well end up owning the 2010 draft….too bad they’re going to need every pick because they traded away every single player they have that’s worth a damn.

If he can clean up his act, Ill take in in a Giants uniform

Wow. I wonder how long it’s going to be before they ship off Champ Bailey too. Being a Bronco fan sure sucks lately.

Would be smart for Denver to trade him if they can get good value. They are rebuilding and next year they will have to pay him big $ or let him walk free.

  6. CORaider says: Jun 16, 2009 2:39 PM

i love it. the mess here in denver has my raiders looking normal lately.

  7. VegasChris says: Jun 16, 2009 2:41 PM

What good is Brandon Marshall when you have Kyle Orton as the starting QB? May as well add more picks to what could be a team-changing draft next year year the Broncos.

Brandon Marshall’s initials are BM… How appriate!

  9. rusH1023 says: Jun 16, 2009 2:42 PM

Everyone in Denver complains that the Donks had the worst defense in years and that the offense struggled at times as well. The new guy tries to come in and re-vamp it all, creating a new type of team (which can go both ways, yes) and he gets shit on along the whole way. I don’t like the Donks, but getting rid of a shithead quarterback and now a shithead reciever isn’t reason for a mass exodus, IMO. Let McDaniel’s vision fail before you jump off the wagon.

    Sorry, I ment “appropriate”
    Damn public school education…

In no way am I saying Brandon Marshall is a bad player, cause he is really good, but his numbers have had a lot to do with the system he played in. I think he will do good at another team, just not as great as he did with the Broncos.
I’m a huge Saints fan, but look at what the numbers some of their wide receivers put up. Lance Moore is good, and I’m glad the Saints kept him, but he is not going to put up those numbers anywhere else in the league. He just excels working within the Saints system and Drew Brees.
I think the Broncos should trade him and get what they can for him and find a WR that is not a problem child and fits their system. He is another one of those Pacman/T.O. type players, and I wouldn’t want him on my team.

i wonder if the bears are in play here, devin hester and 2nd and a fourth…

  13. Darth Ringo says: Jun 16, 2009 2:49 PM

Gotta wonder if during the interview process, Josh McDaniels said, “I’d like to dump most of the players & start over entirely,” and Bowlen said, “Hey neat idea…”
I mean, there may very well be a plan but all these moves seem pretty reactionary to me.

  14. aj_beerzynski says: Jun 16, 2009 2:50 PM

We’re really gonna see how the great Kyle Orton is now eh Cutler bashers?

    My Ravens will redefine domination.
    Flacco to Marshall TOUCHDOWN!

  17. Joe Flacco says: Jun 16, 2009 2:58 PM

If Ozzie doesn’t go after this guy for me, I’m going to beat him like Brandon Marshall bea……um nevermind I’ll just be very upset.

  18. antimeria says: Jun 16, 2009 2:58 PM

dang. denver could probably get a 1 and a 3 for marshall, right? if they ship him to the ravens, they’d have swapped cutler for orton and a (probably mid-level) 1st and 3rd, then a good wr for a low 1st and 3rd. oh, and they traded their (now probably top-10) 2010 1st for a short cornerback.

  19. jec7900 says: Jun 16, 2009 3:01 PM

Bring him in Ozzie! Our players will shape him him and get his act together.

  20. teddybayer says: Jun 16, 2009 3:04 PM

Bye-bye, jagwod. Can anybody say, “Bobby Humphrey”?
Can’t knock the talent but not even Rod Smith’s help can get this guy straight.
Maybe when Shanny takes over Dallas he can work his little act there.

  21. Heinekenfun says: Jun 16, 2009 3:04 PM

Pat Bowlen felt that Mike Shanahan had too much control of the team, so he let him go, in favor of another coach who would have far less control of the team.
Well, the Broncos are out of control and somewhere out there…, Mike Shanahan is laughing his ass off.

  22. Tempus fugit says: Jun 16, 2009 3:04 PM

Amazing, with all the things that Brandon Marshall has done, fans will hammer the team over his request to be traded. Marshall has had 13 “incidents” that involved police since 2004. What about the McDonalds bag slip fiasco? Careful defending this guy.
Marshall has the markings of a potential head case and malcontent. Get what you can for him and get a team oriented guy.

  23. 4shortofa100 says: Jun 16, 2009 3:05 PM

I’m curious: how exactly is this Josh McDaniels’ fault, again?
I know it’s fashionable around town to blame him for everything from Jay Cutler to thunderstorms, but this is all on Marshall. And his agent. Who wants to invest big $$ in a guy coming off a hip injury, who might still be facing a league suspension?

  24. RAVENMIKESC says: Jun 16, 2009 3:06 PM

Do you think “Pat Blowin” would of hired josh if he knew they were going to dis-mantle the offense?? Mcdaniels is one and done. ….Ravens do not need Marshall

  25. milehiclown says: Jun 16, 2009 3:08 PM

I’m not being flip here: don’t forget that Bowlen has had some health/memory problems as of late so perhaps he DID say that and has forgotten.

  26. SEAbeliever says: Jun 16, 2009 3:09 PM

Yeah, Denver is slipping for sure, I feel sorry for their fans that a Patriot is running their operation. Thanks for the 1st rounder next year though!

  27. mlorrey says: Jun 16, 2009 3:09 PM

The Giants better not try to get this guy! We finally got rid of all the meat heads on the team and are set up to have a training camp where the team can develop chemistry without distractions. The worst move we could make is to bring this pre-madonna in. Don’t get me wrong, Marshall is a great player, but is not a good fit for the team’s mentality.

  28. milehiclown says: Jun 16, 2009 3:10 PM

Furthermore–if he goes to Baltimore then i can guarantee he won’t play 16 games in a season EVAR. Southeast DC and Baltimore (the std/murder capital of the country) are far too tempting for a genital wart like BM to ignore.

  29. mattat39 says: Jun 16, 2009 3:16 PM

he would look really good in a Redskins uniform and would be a good target for Colt Brennan next season. Plus we all know that, besides the first round, the skins dont like draft picks so It would be a perfect fit for both teams.

  30. Spenicourt says: Jun 16, 2009 3:19 PM

Would hate to be a Broncos fan.. Ouch.. Thats like Dolphins trading Marino and Clayton in their prime.. Speaking of which, if Dolphins somehow trade for Marshall, book us as a serious contender. Why not give up a 1st rd pick, for a proven stud, probowler, 25 yrs young, 6-4, 230… I would pull the trigger on this in a heartbeat.. Makes sense.

  31. orangeolive says: Jun 16, 2009 3:21 PM

First they let Elam leave, then trade Cutler, now Marshall, I’m beginning to see a pattern. Josh Mcdaniels is to the Broncos as Bill Callahan is to the Cornhuskers. Wish Bowlen would take control of his team!!! I sure miss Shanny!!!

  32. Ranger481VS says: Jun 16, 2009 3:21 PM

Wow! The Broncos are going to suck even more than what the people who say they suck, think they suck. That sucks… for Broncos fans. No Shanahan, No Cutler, soon-to-be No Marshall. I would be smelling an 0-16 record if it weren’t for the sucky division they play in….

  33. CharmCItyALum says: Jun 16, 2009 3:24 PM

Hope the Ravens get this guy. Marshal would be an even better fit than Boldin.

  34. pogo94 says: Jun 16, 2009 3:27 PM

My best friend is a Broncos fan and he is so angry right now at management. You wait all of these years to land a franchise QB after Elway. You draft Jay Cutler and just as he comes into his own you trade him because of your new and unproven Headcoach. I for one would have rather kept Cutler over the Coach. Now your second best player is wanting out. What does that tell you about this coach. Denver better hope he becomes a hell of a coach or you just set your franchise back 10 years. I know there defense is going to struggle this year switching to a 3-4 allignment. Now your offense lost it’s starting QB and #1 WR. It’s going to be a long year in Denver. I’m a Bengals fan so I know all about long years and bad management and you guys are headed right for it. It’s too bad this franchise was a very strong one for such a long time. A glimmer of hope. Orton played very well last year the last 8 games. He put up equal numbers to K.Warner those last 8 games.

  35. peskyspole says: Jun 16, 2009 3:29 PM

Josh knows this is the NFL and not his brother’s fantasy league?

  36. Chiggs says: Jun 16, 2009 3:31 PM

Why are people blaming Josh McDaniels for this? The current issue at hand was predicted last year during the offseason. Denver fans knew the Marshall showdown was coming. The [insert Josh McDaniels insult here] stuff seems to be a crutch for those with far less wit than they think they have.

  37. TheDPR says: Jun 16, 2009 3:32 PM

Depending on what they get for him, trading might be a good deal for them. He’s bound to screw up again and have to sit out some games. Better he do that on someone else’s team and let Eddie Royal be the man in Denver.

  38. football-fantasy-fanatics.blogspot.com says: Jun 16, 2009 3:35 PM

Brandon Marshall’s agent says the Broncos have agreed to trade him. As with yesterday, both him and Plaxico now seem to be prone to join a team within the month. So, where will they go?
For Marshall, the no brainer fit is Chicago. He gets re-united with Cutler and the Bears definitely have the cap room. I don’t see how he goes elsewhere. The Jets are a bad fit due to the fact he is not going to want a rookie or Clemens throwing to him in a run first offense. The Bucs could be interested in him but why go there when he knows Cutler and they can pretty much get rolling immediately. Looks like the Bears are Super Bowl contenders if they do pick him up.
For Plax, the Jets have stated they don’t want him anymore (supposedly) which is a way of saying they do want him. However, I think he goes Tampa due to the fact that he knows Derik Ward, will have a veteran QB tossing to him (Leftwich). And will have another receiver and tight end to take the focus off of him. The Bucs also have the money to shower him and they are looking to stave away all out rebuilding until Freeman is ready. The Ravens are a possibility but I think he winds up in Tampa.

Could there be a braylon for brandon trade coming?

  40. rastaraqi says: Jun 16, 2009 3:43 PM

I think it is unlikely but what if the trade was Marshall for Quinn and Robiskie/Massaquoi? Just throwing that out there.

  41. nflguy007 says: Jun 16, 2009 3:47 PM

Top 10 pick for Seahawks in 2010 via the Bronc’s!

  42. bigkdaddy22 says: Jun 16, 2009 3:51 PM

@rastaraqi- The Broncos could only hope to be so lucky. At some point they need to stop stockpiling draft picks and get some players.

  43. Terrell Blowens says: Jun 16, 2009 3:57 PM

Marshall can not be on the Bears… they don’t have any picks of value unless they trade their 2011 first rounder plus some other picks. Very unlikely. Common sense, people.

  44. CaptainFantastik says: Jun 16, 2009 4:03 PM

Denver is obviously the most spineless organization in pro sports. Marshall and Cutler were both under contract going into this year. If ownership and coaching staff had any balls they’d have told Cutler what they should be telling Marshall right now:
“you’re under contract, and you will perform all the functions your contract entails. If not, you will be fined for every day you’re not there. You will NOT be traded under any circumstance. You will take the field for this team until you are no longer contractually required to do so. If you choose continued absence and the fines that go with it we will hold you rights as long as we are contractually entitled to them. And you will sit in limbo until your contract is up while opportunies are presented and taken by other QB’s either already in the league or who are entering the league. In short, you will be severely damaging your own career and reputation. Now shut your mouth, get down to the locker room to suit up, and get your sorry ass on the field NOW.”

  45. whatthehellisgoingonoutthere says: Jun 16, 2009 4:10 PM

First of all the Bears won’t be able to trade for Marshall because they gave up the farm in the Culter trade. What are they going to trade to the Broncos, one of their receivers? Please.
The bottom line is, nobody is going to be willing to give up what the Broncos want for him because he’s a turd and is one more incident away from a long suspension AND no team will be willing to meet Marshall’s crazy contract demands that don’t take into account the inherent risk with his crazy behavior and constant problems with the law. The Cardinals couldn’t even pull off a trade for a 1st rounder for Boldin and he’s a choir boy in comparison.

  46. football-fantasy-fanatics.blogspot.com says: Jun 16, 2009 4:23 PM

Think Denver doesn’t need defensive assistance? Take your pick of who the Bears can return in value. Also Think about future draft picks and three way trades. Gues we’ll wait and see but the thought process that it can’t happen is foolish. A lot more goes into these things than just surface values.

  47. PatWhiteHOF2025 says: Jun 16, 2009 4:28 PM

There is only one thing they can do without wrecking the lockeroom. Trade Marshall for Boldin and a late pick. Then lock Boldin up longterm, he does not have the baggage if that is their concern and is still fairly young.

  48. Jon Snow says: Jun 16, 2009 4:44 PM

From what we know there were 4 players that didn’t want to get on board with McD. Cutler, Wiegmann, Scheffler, & now possibly Marshall. There may have been more (Leach?) but they were quickly released and almost all of them remain unsigned in the league. Obviously, most of those guys were defensive players and we all know how bad the Broncos defense was last year. No surprise there. Well, two of those four decided to give it a shot and actually reported to the workouts and to camp. Guess what? Wiegmann and Scheffler are still with the team and have received high praise from the top. Both figure to be key parts of the offense, and rightfully so.
People keep talking about “all these players” that McInsertClichedChildishNameHere chased off, but in reality there were only two – Cutler and (possibly) Marshall – and neither one of them would put the team ahead of themselves and give McD a shot.
Both of those guys are extremely talented and I would love to have them on the team IF IF IF they wanted to be. They don’t. Everybody that has actually put in the time does. Everybody… Champ, Dawkins, DJ, Hillis, Royal, Clady – everybody, down to the man. Notice something? A difference in character between the Champ / Hillis / Royal types and the meCutlerme / meMarshallme types? Interesting, isn’t it?
Please don’t “feel sorry for us Broncos fans”. There is a huge silent faction that actually agrees with what’s happening in Denver, but it’s almost dangerous to publicly admit it. The Broncos will be drastically underrated this year to the detriment of anybody that faces them.

  49. CapsLockKey says: Jun 16, 2009 5:22 PM

I don’t know what I’ve enjoyed more this off season as a Chiefs fan, the signing of Pioli & Company while acquiring a decent QB, or watching the circus that has gone on in Denver since the day McD was hired before even looking for a GM replacement. Maybe Brandon’s afraid of eventually tripping over another McD bag.

  50. CKL says: Jun 16, 2009 7:19 PM

Anyone find the timing of this to be a bit odd? You know, RIGHT AFTER they cleared Marshall in any wrongdoing in his latest case with the current girlfriend?
McDaniels mishandled things a bit in the media with Cutler, no doubt. But I don’t think he was wrong to let him go. I also don’t see how the Marshall thing is his fault except possibly if Marshall doesn’t want to get with his program. New coaches have to get rid of those players if they can or they have no shot to succeed.

  51. fish751 says: Jun 16, 2009 8:00 PM

I’m not a Bronco’s fan, but I am starting to feel for all of them. I was hoping that Dawkins could finish his career in style, and instead it looks like he will ride off into the sunset without a crack at the playoffs. When did Pat Bowlen stop giving a sh** about this team. I do not remember the last time a coach ran a franchise quarterback out of town. Reason being, it does not happen! Now they are going to show the door to a dominating reciever. Does Bowlen care, better yet, is he alive, or are they just propping him up as the owner like a ” Week End at Bernie’s” type gig. Josh McDaniel is back to being a position coach in two years if he gets that much time.
