Broncos Cut Boss Bailey

Champ Bailey and Boss Bailey have been separated again. Boss Bailey, a seventh-year linebacker and younger brother of the Pro Bowl cornerback, has been cut by the Denver Broncos after starting six games last season and undergoing microfracture knee surgery during the offseason, according to Lindsay H. Jones of the Denver Post. Because of the knee injury, which was incurred in October, Boss Bailey hasn’t been able to participate in minicamps and Organized Team Activities. Per the report, the former University of Georgia player’s departure didn’t come as a surprise since he’s not healthy enough to play at this point. “I wasn’t really surprised by it,” Boss Bailey told the Post. “I understand how the business goes. It’s a business call. I appreciate everything they’ve done for me since I’ve been here. Once you’re a Bronco, you’re always a Bronco.” [Editor’s note: Stefan Fatsis wonders whether that applies to him, too.] Broncos coach Josh McDaniels praised Bailey for his attitude, adding that the team cut him so he could try to obtain a roster spot with a different team. Boss Bailey, 29, registered 40 tackles and one forced fumble last season. For his six-year NFL career, he has recorded 305 career tackles, seven sacks and two interceptions.
