No, it’s not Brett Favre. (Yet.)
But the Vikings have announced a transaction involving a guy who played college football in Mississippi.
Under contract is the first of their five 2009 draft picks, seventh-rounder safety Jamarca Sanford.
Terms for the 231st overall pick weren’t disclosed.
Sanford started 44 games for Ole Miss during his college career.

That was cheap!
(Clenching my fist in disgust) “Florio!”
Got me again, just like the headline that said “Vikes may sign Fitzgerald,” which referred not to the otherworldly Cardinals receiver but his substantially less-talented younger brother.
Well played.
Wow…you are a tease, Florio!!
This is bait and swtich. I was expecting Brett Favre and instead you break the news that the Vikes sign their 7th round draft pick. Great.
Dumb
Anyone want to talk about how great the Patriots are going to be this year?
That must have been the reason for all those flights to Mississippi and back…
If/when the Vikes DO sign Favre, it will be one of the top 10 most Anti Climactic events in history due to this website alone.
Now lets get going and get the other 4 signed!! All stellar
picks (from a non-stellar coach).
Harvin : without the pot, top ten with no doubt. He’ll be a
super star.
Loadholt: Rated a first round pick by most. A true load!
Asher (CB): If he’d stayed in school anther year a first
rounder by most. Rated 2nd round.
Brinkley (OLB): This kid is a first rounder B4 his ligament
injury. After the injury??? 6′ 2″, 270# and runs a 4.7!! Lookout
QB’s!!
Im suing you Florio for false advertisement!
Any guy with a name like Jamarca, will probably tackle like a viking.
The vikings have only 5 draft picks to sign so it should be relatively easy. Getting the first one signed is a big help. It’s not like 2005 when they had 2 first round pick contracts to negotiate.
They should be the first in the division to get picks signed since Detroit has 10 draft picks, the Bears 9, and the Packers 8 draft picks.
Final part to their Superbowl puzzle. Get rid of an old and slow Darren Sharper (he was old and slow 2 years ago but the vikings just figured it out) and sign a 7th rounder. For as bad as their secondary has been, this guy just might be starting come Sept.

ehhh….
Sanford is a fitting name for a Vikings player. Wasn’t Sanford a junk collector on Sanford and Sons TV show back in the day?
@Sundance
Time to take off your purple tinted glasses with irrational exuberance. Harvin will be out of the NFL in 3 years…maybe 4, just like all Gator receivers who don’t learn how to run routes in college due to the spread offense. Of course that’s assuming his career doesn’t go “up in smoke” before then and it’s decided for him by Goodell.
They probably also signed one of those high school receivers Lord Favre’s been throwing to the last 2 weeks.
Yet another sign that favre has an agreement in place. They now know what kind of money can be doled out at extending players and signing draft picks.

Say what??? The stupidity never ceases to amaze me in the comments. First of all this is a 7th round pick. A pack of gum for a signing bonus and the slotted salary number is what this guy got. Second of all, there is an allotment that is given to the teams for signing draft picks that is dependent on a formula and how many picks they have. Favre has nothing to do with this.

Definitely something to consider given that Favre would have crap for receivers to throw to as it stands right now. Berrian wouldn’t be a #1 WR on 29 other teams. I can’t think of any teams he would be the #1 WR. This will be the crappiest receiving core Favre has ever had to throw to in his 17 year career.

Well, I guess that’s only fair. . .something has to balance out the fact that Favre has never played with a running back that’s anywhere close to being as talented as the guy that will be lining up behind him in the backfield this season.
Honestly, what’s Favre going to do with a real running game after spending 15 years handing the ball to complete garbage like Edgar Bennett, Dorsey Levens, Ahman Green, and Ryan Grant? None of those guys would make a list of the 10 best running backs in Vikings history.
BarnyardBerrianSucks
this guy is an idiot. He has the balls to talk about our receivers, like the Bears have any. Why don’t u try taking the best kick returner in the league and make him a wide out. That worked out well huh… Who do u have left Davis? Ooh, makes me shake.
Jamarca Sanford isn’t the rookie that I’ve got my eye on at the Free Safety hole during camp… I’m far more interested in the undrafted free agent, FS Colt Anderson – Montana. That kid can flat out play, he’s one of two other guys that the Vikes picked up right after the draft that I was absolutely shocked were not drafted.
The other two were OG Andy Kemp – Wisconsin, and RB Ian Johnson – Boise State. I think all three of them will make the 53 man roster.

Hell, if he doesn’t make the Vikings’ roster, the Pack could sign him and convert him to linebacker. . .he’d be the best player in the Green Bay front seven by 1 October.
The train to 4-12ville is leaving the station, Packer fans. . .all aboard!!

Hmmmmm…….. Let’s take a look shall we? So far Ahman Green has had 2 seasons that rival the almighty AP. Actually better with 1847 yds and 1387 respectively. Green, Levens and Bennett caught A LOT of passes out of the backfield as they were complete running backs. Peterson is not. He goes to the bench during passing situations because he can’t catch the ball and is terrible at pass blocking. Childo even admits this publicly. None would make the list of top 10 running backs in Vikings history? Please.
The only “history” the Vikings have is Robert smith. I just looked at the stats for both players. Green was a much better running back than Smith was. 2300 more yards (even if you take away his injured seasons with the Texans which make their careers the same length), 200 more receptions and 1600 more yards receiving. Chuck Foreman? Don’t even make me laugh….
You know what Edgar Bennett, Dorsey Levens, Ahman Green, and Ryan Grant have in common?
None of them were ever as good as Adrian Peterson. Or even close. They were all part of the green and gold filth, and therefore don’t deserve to be mentioned in the same breath as Peterson, Smith, Foreman, or any of the rest.
Christ, if you didn’t know any better, you’d think the Packers were division champions in 2008 and the Vikings were one of the NFL’s biggest jokes in 2008.
But they weren’t. And they won’t be competitive this year, either.
@ Jimmy Smith
If you knew anything you’d know that the Saftey filling in for the old busted up lazy Darren Sharper is Tyrell Johnson a 2nd round pick from last year…
Please…. Robert Smith couldn’t carry Ahman Green’s jock. He was a panzy who avoided contact like T-Joke avoided completed passes. The stats don’t lie…. To think that you even brought up Foreman is hilarious! If you want to play a game of previous seasons, then I would have to say, you’d think the Packers weren’t 13-3 two seasons ago and actually did something in the playoffs. The defense and injuries were the problem last year. Your Queen’s lose one one of the four games handed to them by the ref’s at the end and the Bears are NFC North champions at 9-7.
The Vikings were one of the NFL’s biggest jokes last year, that’s why nobody took them serious in the playoffs and the “fans” didn’t even buy up the tickets for the first home playoff game in 10 years….

BarnyardB,
First off, you forget to mention that the refs handed the Bears a game on a silver platter, and that game was against the Vikings. Take away that rip-off win, and the Vikings would have clenched the division early. And don’t try to argue that it didn’t happen… there as the terrible pass interfernence call where the Vikings DB didn’t even come in contact with the WR at all, which effectively handed the Bears an unearned TD. Then there was the inexplainable non-call for roughing the passer. Add that on top of the non-call for pass interference against the Bears, and the game was over with an easy Vikings win.
Second, the fans didn’t believe that Tavaris Jackson could win, and they were absolutely right. It had nothing to do with the rest of the team. Had they started Ferrotte, the fans would have been supportive, instead they started T-Joke and, as usual, he promptly lost the game. Remember, it was Ferrotte, not Jackson, that got the Vikes to the playoffs in the first place.

@Znorsewoman, I didn’t say that the ref’s handed the Bears a game on a silver platter against the Vikings. There were 4 games actually. Yes, I watched them all. The one’s that I can remember off the top of my head are against the Lions and the New Orleans. In the New Orleans game, Peterson CLEARLY fumbled it was recovered and the Saints were at about the Viking 15 yd line. Instead the ref’s botch the call and the Vikings score. Then at the end there was the typical phantom pass interference call to setup the game winner. Throw in a 5th game if you want to count the missed field goal at the Humpty dump by the Packers to win the game.
Sorry, but one play doesn’t make up the ridiculous 4 games number that you’re claiming.
