Cowboys Trio Lays Foundation For New Career

Most heavy-metal bands consist of underfed dudes with long unkempt hair and the athletic ability of an elderly woman with two artificial hips.
But not all of them.
Three members of the Dallas Cowboys — Marc Colombo, Cory Procter, and Leonard Davis — belong to “Free Reign”, a heavy-metal band that has signed a recording deal with Riot Entertainment, of Australia.  (Justin Chapman, who doesn’t play football, also is in the band.)
The Cowboys issued a release on Tuesday morning announcing the development.  Free Reign’s debut EP (whatever that is . . . yes, I’m old) will be released later this year, and they’ll be headlining on June 27 at the House of Blues in Dallas.
Tim MacMahon of the Dallas Morning News reviewed one of their shows in April.
We found a sample of their stuff right here.  It’s actually not bad.
Then again, they’re no Henway.

EP (extended play) is shorter than a full-length album release (long play [LP]) and consists of only a few songs. It could only be 20-30 minutes in length.

Too old to know what an EP is?
Did you grow up with gramophone cylinders or what?

An EP is what a band makes when they don’t have enough songs to make a full LP. You can do a single with a B-side (that’s just two songs), you can do a full LP (that’s 8-15 songs), or you can do an EP (usually around 5 songs).

You must be one of those guys who only buys the latest Green Day and Nickelback albums at Wal-Mart.

EP stands for Extended Play. Back in the day of vinyl records, it was halfway between a single and an album (or Long Play). In other words, a single had two songs, one on each side, and an album had ten to twelve, five or six on each side. An EP had four to six songs, two or three on each side. It was mainly for bands who didn’t have enough material for a full album, but more than for a single. And it was cheaper than producing two or three singles.

Also I have to say that while Affliction t-shirts are cool, all four guys constantly wearing them at the same time is kinda ghey. Feel kinda sorry for Justin Chapman because he looks like an undernourished smurf standing next to Procter, Colombo and Davis.

Another story about the Cowboys that doesn’t involve winning a playoff game.

More power to ‘em because I have no musical talent whatsoever, but that has to be the worst crap I’ve ever heard!

This stunning example of awful “butt-rock” only further cements the reality that Marc Colombo is indeed a douche – and an awful singer.

Maybe your point would be better taken if you’d show us all how it’s supposed to be done. Yeah, thought so. Stick to gathering boogers and snot, DaveWannstedtsMustache.

    Go death metal.
The financial ceiling is low (Name one D.M band that is rich outside of Cannibal Corpse) but you can have a sucky show and nobody will be the wiser.

And how many years ago did your team win one? If you want to live that far in the past, maybe I should start bragging about how we won the Civil War.

The should stick to their day jobs….even though they are not even that great at it. All three are overpaid under preforming wannabes.

    Wannstedt,
Everybody knows Vox is a big Michael Jackson fan. Used to sleep over at Neverland all the time. The hush money from the lawsuit is the only reason he can afford internet service.

Not good either. If 3 members weren’t pro football players, they’d get zero hype.

  34. cliffclav says: Jun 23, 2009 2:34 PM

Overall I like it. Drums are solid, great tempo, not overly complex. Bass lines are well written, the tone is good. It sounds like he is using a pick one the second track “All in Vain” though. The lead guitar Kicks A$$. The Vocals are good except the timbre of his voice during the Intro of “last goodbye” when he is trying to strain a little high. I would be willing to buy their EP… Could use a little more cowbell though.

  35. GreyTheory says: Jun 23, 2009 3:03 PM

FYI,.. their label is the same one that signed Fozzy, the band with a pro wrestler as it’s “lead singer”.
..and we all know Florio is waiting at his local Licorice Pizza for “The Return of Bruno LIVE!”

Wow, Vox will even defend the Cowboys’ crappy “rock” band.
It reminds me of the time he rose up so vocally in defense of his team in the immediate wake of that 44-6 loss to the Eagles…
