Report: Greg Jennings' Deal is "Done"

The Green Bay Packers have finalized a contract extension with wide receiver Greg Jennings, according to FOX 6 in Milwaukee.
Greg Bedard of the Milwaukee-Journal Sentinel pointed out the television station’s Twitter update.
It reads: “Yesterday it was ‘close’ – Today it’s done. FOX 6 has the details of Greg Jennings’ new deal with the Pack. Tune in @5:40.”
[UPDATE: According to Greg Bedard, FOX 6-TV in Milwaukee is reporting that Jennings will only rank behind Arizona Cardinals star Larry Fitzgerald on the wide receiver pay chart.]
That development is consistent with Jennings’ comments over the past few days that a deal could be imminent.
“We’re coming pretty close, as far as my understanding is, to some type of a deal,” said Jennings, per Lori Nickel of the Journal-Sentinel.
And Jennings outlined his desire for a new contract, a request that has apparently been granted by the Packers’ front office.
“I mean I want a new deal,” Jennings said.  “If that were to not happen, I’m playing my year out.  I’m not like, ‘they better get me a new deal.’  That’s not the way I want to go about it, I don’t want to be a distraction to the team.
“But at the same time, as a player, I feel like I have performed at somewhat of a high level.  I’ve still got a lot of improving to do, I know that.  I’m going to get better, I put that onus on myself, not anybody else.”

Excellent, a quality individual, and a prolific WR minus the ocho cinco and TO attitude.

This is why I think Ted Thompson is a good GM – he doesn’t overspend on FAs and therefore has the money to spend on quality, franchise guys like Jennings (then Collins, then Kampman).

If this is true then why did Greg make the snarky comments to the Green Bay Press Gazette reporter today?

    I can’t quit you, Greg.

Fox6 Milwaukee is saying Greg Jennings’ deal will make him the second-highest paid WR in the NFL behind Larry Fitzgerald.

Jennings can thank the Vikings for his big contract. If they didn’t overpay a mediocre receiver like Berrian to such a ridiculous contract out of desperation, the bar wouldn’t have been set so high. That said, if I’m Jennings and I saw what Berrian got paid based on his skills and production, I’d argue all day long that I’m worth double what Berrian is being paid.

    Jennings is overrated.

the overrated “run fast down the field” berrian isn’t a quarter of the WR that Jennings is, yet they will probably earn the same amount of money this year.

The Vikings overpaying for a mediocre player? That doesn’t sound like the Super Bowl factory in Minnesota one bit.
Jennings deserves this deal, and he has the character to continue to dominate even though he is paid. By the way, Barnyard, excellent name!

Stats don’t lie. If Jennings is overrated, I’d hate to think what Barnyard Berrian is. Jennings stats keep going up and up over the past 3 years. Berrian is the 4th highest paid receiver, yet I had to scroll down to 24 on NFL.com to find him based on Stats. Low and behold, I only needed to go to 6 to find Jennings. Which one is overrated….or at the very least grossly overpaid? Hell…Jennings has more TD’s in 2 season than Berrian has over his entire 5 year career.
