Just as the “Days Without An Arrest” meter was within a week of the all-time record of 32, news has surfaced that Dolphins cornerback Vontae Davis was arrested earlier this month in Illinois.
Since reports of the arrest didn’t surface for more than an a week after it happened, the meter automatically resets to zero.
According to the Daily Illini (via the Miami Herald), Davis was arrested for unnecessary vehicular noise and driving without a valid license.
Davis was a first-round pick in the 2009 draft. When Dolphins V.P. of football operations Bill Parcells arrived in early 2008, he declared that he would tolerate no “thugs and hoodlums.”

This is just a LOL@ All of those people who had Vontae Davis rated over Darius Butler.
Can’t wait for the NFL season though.
I would hardly consider not having a valid DL and a radio turned up too loud tantamount to being a thug or hoodlum.
“Unnecessary vehicular noise”? They can arrest you for that?
Florio, thuggery is now defined as having a loud car? Seriously? I don’t know what’s more ridiculous, your belief that engine noise is thuggish, or that Davis was arrested over this.
And unless Illinois doesn’t honor the full faith and credit clause, how could Davis not have a valid license?
Everyone was to worried about Andre Smith’s GASP agent change to remember all the other first rounders who had real character issues. Silly yall.
Unnecessary vehicular noise? What the hell is that? These guys can break laws that I didn’t even know were real laws. Is that a music or muffler problem? He should probably have a liscense. Breaking the law in anyway before you sign your rookie contract is a pretty bad idea. Harmless arrest really, but the guy is clearly another idiot either way.
*Cue COPS Music: “Thugs and Hoodlums… whatcha gonna do… whatcha gonna do when Florio posts about yoooou?”
I hope the guy doesnt end up being a bust like many of these overpaid athletes
“unnecessary vehicular noise ” ooooooooo, he’s a bad man! I betcha he jaywalks too!
I will never understand how these guys aren’t smart enough to have a valid license though.
Not that this arrest is very serious but wasn’t this one of the guys that fell in the draft due to character concerns? The guy can play, but Parcells is full of crap. They wouldn’t have drafted him if he was serious about that statement.
Seriously, not quite thug-like. Plenty of punk rock fans have gotten cited for loud music. And I’ve driven without my license on occasion, and I don’t consider myself a thug.
Oh snap….he’s playing his music too loud….in a College town. Quick, lock him up…
Sounds more dumb than illegal. Driving around music blaring when you don’t even have a license?
Sounds like he was (or should have been) ticketed, not arrested. There isn’t even proof he was arrested, except some gung Ho J-student put it in their school paper. Even the Miami Herald couldn’t get verification that an arrest was made.
Are you going to set the meter to zero every time someone gets a speeding ticket or citation for not wearing a seatbelt if someone with no journalistic reputation reports that an arrest was made?
Seriously?????
Something more is going on here. Unnecessary vehicular noise is either a loud radio or excessive horn honking. That would be a ticket not an arrest. He must have refused to sign the ticket or given the cop attitude.
If I had to listen to (c)rap music, i’d give someone a ticket too
So, do the Dolphins get the Turd points now, or does that wait until they sign him?
To the cops.
Thank you. My rear view mirror should not shake from someone elses music. (That is if you can call THUMP THUMP THUMP THUMP music.)
Unnecessary vehicular noise? Sounds like D.W.B. to me.
Not having a valid license was pretty stupid though.
Actually, the arrest meter should be reset to 0, nunc pro tunc, June 9. So today should be day 14.
This is weak. Cops need something better to do then arrest people for crap like this. Typical of law enforcement, I’m sure the officer who arrested him hasn’t been on the force more than two years. Enjoy your “I arrested an NFL player” plaque you POS. Try focusing our tax dollars on real offenders, not a brotha jammin some T-Pain in his car.
Micronole, I like where your head is at, but Florio, I think you should reset the Arrest Meter to -14, seeing as we went 14 days without being aware of this.
Then we could see if the number ever got into the black, as it were.
Point A.
He’s technically not a Dolphin till he signs a contract, therefore not an NFL player, thereore no reason to reset the meter.
Point B. This is a ticketable offense, not an arrest.
Point C. Not having a valid license isn’t the same thing as not having a license. He may have not had his license on him when he was stopped.
Overall, way to over-zealous on this one, Florio. Me thinks the new network paycheck is fogging your thought process.
Uh Oh, Parcells said “thugs and hoodlums”…..better get Sharpton on the phone!

You kidding??? That’s some bloodthirsty s*&t right there!
I’m with “descendency” here… and even the fact that Darius Butler’s physicality is comparable to a 4 year old’s tenacious cracking of hard boiled Easter eggs, the league MUST put a stop to bloodthirsty player behavior like this!
What an ABSURD post by Florio. Do you only read the headlines and not bother reading the story?
Davis was **not booked** and **no warrant** will be issued for his arrest provided he pays the **fine**, typically between **$155 and $255**, by the required date.
LOL It’s a written arrest – like jaywalking!!!
He obviously was disturbing the peace of the community by blaring that rap crap with all that profanity and anti-social themes. He obviously refused to turn it down when asked to do so.
Nobody gets arrested for that kind of thing unless he shows no respect for the police and gets truculent then belligerent.
I don’t know why so many of these idiots want to cause so much trouble with nice friendly police officers who are just servants of the community doing their job.
Nobody would get arrested for these things if they would act civilized, have respect for the law, and get their mind right.
The Dolphins can suspend him for conduct detrimental to the team or fine him. Hopefully this boy will grow up and start acting like a man.
Vontae Davis: the Bubb Rubb of the South
http://www.spike.com/video/bubb-rubb/2664225
There were some major red flags on this guy concerning his character going into the draft,so I am not the least bit surprised,”turdiness” seems to follow this guy around wherever he goes….
first off, what micronole said was correct….. meter should reset to 14.
also, what zygi milf said is true. this guy is not under contract, so technically the team can’t be “awarded” points in the turd watch.
although like everyone else has been saying, this is more stupidity than thuggery. Vontae wasn’t driving drunk, didn’t bring a gun somewhere, didn’t fight people…. he was driving with loud music and didn’t have a license. that is just stupidity.
there is a big difference between stupidity & thuggery. In my opinion, of course.
Hahah arrest meter back to 27….way to jump the gun florio!!
Should we even count DWB arrests like this one (music too loud, left license at home) on the arrestometer?
This is the most ludicrous thing I have ever heard someone getting arrested for. How bout just a warning, or write him a ticket, like most cops would do. No wonder black people hate the cops.
Is this an arrest or is this a charge? Is this a misdemeanor or is this a summary offense? In Pennsylvania, a summary conviction such as a summary disorderly conduct (loud noise) and a summary driving without a license do not constitute a criminal conviciton. A person is able to place on applications that they have not been convicted of a criminal offense. So, I ask again, an arrest or a charge?
@desides
LMAO. You don’t get ticketed for a loud car because of engine noise unless you knew it was too loud or you have your speakers turned up too loud (you know, blasting that loud thuggish rap music.) But I’m sure Vontae Davis likes blue grass country music…
Unnecessary vehicular noise??? What , were all the donut shops closed that day?
I wonder what Bubb Rubb and Lil Sis have to say about unneccesary vehicular noise…

I wonder how Bill Parcells feels about those who engage in tom-foolery & shenanigans.
Good size and speed, questionable work ethic and off field issues…
Parcells will be having a heart to heart with Vontae, kinda like Singletary and his brother! (Vernon)
descendency – you can get ticketed for both loud music & exhaust. many of my friends who modify their cars get ticketed for their exhaust all the time. many states have laws about modifying a factory exhaust.
as far as loud music – i once got a noise infraction for blasting Bush. I’m embarassed to admit this, but hey, it was late 90′s when i was doing it. i was cruising the strip in Ft. Lauderdale on my way home, windows down, playing some (louder) rock music. I had a factory radio too! cop said i was playing it too loud.
sometimes cops just have bad days and target people too. i’d withhold final judgement on this until i hear all the details. i’m suspicious of the fact that NO reputable source is reporting details makes this sketchy. did a school cop bust him or something? the blotter for the municipality doesn’t even have anything on this….
He probably was arrested for speaking in the third person.
descendency says:
“you know, blasting that loud thuggish rap music.”
If listening to loud rap music makes you a thug, every teenager in america, white or black, is a thug.
Could you sound more like an old racist?
To go along with the “Days Without An Arrest” meter, can you add a “Days Since Florio Linked To An Article He Didn’t Actually Read” meter? Seems to me that happens at least once per week. In this case, Florio links to an article in which the Dolphins contend Davis was actually in Miami attending an OTA at the time he was supposedly arrested in Illinois, yet Florio makes no mention of that and pretends that the article states unequivocally that Davis was arrested.
Good thing he didnt steal Lance Armstrongs Bike

I don’t even have to reference your calling him “boy” later in your post to out you as a racist.
But I will:
“Hopefully this boy will grow up”
No NFL player has been arrested for 14 days… but the meter is at 0. Now thats a good one.
I want Florio to run a company that employs 200 22 year olds. And then I want that company to run an arrest meter.
This is stupid. But, this is how Florio got his Schtick so Im sure he is gonna keep the meter below 10 as often as possible to keep his legacy going. Whatever that is.
He was not arrested. This is pretty weak. Also, if you look online, you’ll see his birthday was May 27; I bet his license just expired. This shouldn’t be on the arrest meter.
I find it incredible that Vontae Davis can be in 2 places at the same time, on June 9 he was in Miami participating in OTA’s, it would have been a physical impossibility for him to also be in Champaign Illinois at the same time unless of course he has access to an SR-71 spy plane that is capable of Mach 3, better check your facts Florio before you get hit with a law suit.

Most of the time all i hear from the other car is BRRRRT BRRRRT BRRRRT because everything on that POS car is rattling.
@brh – I have to agree. Without quibbling about what the meter should say, shouldn’t a reset wait to see if it was actually him and not Willie Middlebrooks?
Unless Davis has a private supersonic jet and flew directly to Champaign from practice, I don’t know how he could have gotten there in 4 hours and 17 minutes. The Champaign airport doesn’t have any scheduled flights to or from Florida.

unnecessary vehicular noise and driving without a valid license
Translation=White Cop, Black Driver
http://archive.ci.champaign.il.us/cpd-reports/
nothing in there abot vontae davis.
here’s the report for the Daily Illini
http://www.dailyillini.com/sports/football/2009/06/23/vontae-davis-cited-for-no-valid-license-vehicular-noise
But, aparently that article (miami herald one) has been modified to include the response from the team basically saying it’s damn near impossible Vontae was up there since he was at the OTA, rookie symposium, etc etc.
Guess it’s a good thing the article on the DI just says “staff report” so that person won’t quite ruin their career yet.
Seriously people, read the f-ing article. Davis was in Miami attending OTAs at the time. So, how could he be in 2 places at once? Since the person that got pulled over didn’t have a license to present to the cop, it’s possible someone just dropped Vontae Davis’ name as their own. Next time maybe you guys should click on the link before spouting the racially-charged “rap music is crap” diatribe.

Word to your mother!
“Could you sound more like an old racist? ”
Did I say anything about race? Vontae Davis had character issue concerns coming out of college. I made a reference to rap music (because that’s 99% of what I hear when I hear music way too loud). I don’t think I’ve ever heard anyone blast polka music.
Once again, I didn’t say anything about Davis’s race. As you said, lots of people listen to rap music. Lots of them like to blast it. It’s not a racial issue. I could be wrong, but it seems more of a culture.
