Jets Claim Urrutia

While most NFL teams take a vacation, the Jets are staying active on the waiver wire.
Hours after claiming cornerback Rashad Barksdale (no relation to Avon), Gang Green claimed former Bengals wideout Mario Urrutia, according to’s Adam Caplan.
Urrutia, who measures at 6’6″, was a seventh-round pick by Cincinnati in 2008 after an up and down career at Louisville.  He was a phenom as a freshman and sophomore, but disappeared after Bobby Petrino left for the NFL.
The Jets are lacking depth at wideout, but Urrutia looks like a long shot to make the roster after failing to make it to July with Cincinnati.

  1. My wife had a URRUTIA Tract Infection once. Let me tell you…That is a lose-lose situation for everyone involved.

  2. Bengals’ WR situation is much more settled than the Jets’. This could be a good landing spot for Urrutia. Though I’m kind-of confused as to why Marcus Henry hasn’t gotten more of a shot…

  3. Urrutia being cut in June isnt necessarily an indictment on his ability. Bengals are DEEP at WR with Ocho, Coles, Henry, Caldwell & Simspon with Cosby and Brown vying for the final spot.

  4. I hear him coming
    I’ll be there
    I’ll come running
    He’s all I need
    All my life
    I feel so good
When I just say the WWWOOOOOOOOOORRRRRRRDDDDDDD!!!!!!!!!

  5. finally.. a wire reference… someone get florio some HBO so we can get some flight of the conchords in there as well.
