The Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who already have more cap room than Abe Lincoln with a shaved head, have freed up another $1.4 million in 2009 salary space.
According to Pewter Report, center/guard Sean Mahan has reduced his base salary from $3 million to $1.6 million, under an apparent “take-a-pay-cut-or-take-a-hike” ultimatum.
Mahan started his career with the Bucs, but signed in 2007 with the Steelers. He was traded back to Tampa in 2008, with the Bucs inheriting the final five years of his contract.
He’s scheduled to earn base salaries of $2.08 million in 2010 and $2.56 million in 2011.

I like the take a hike option. The guys really useless.
oh I’m sorry that was mean and way too harsh. He can be a training camp dummy.
Curious timing when you consider Aaron Sears hasn’t been participating in offseason work at all. We may really need Mahan this year.
He could have easily found another position somewhere. I here they need a new turnstile at the amusement park.
Easily the worst o-lineman in the league.
I can’t believe the Steelers even got a 7th rounder back from the Bucs for him.
Hey! I just realized they turned that pick into local product (and PSU alum) AQ Shipley! My favorite pick of the draft!
Funny to me there even worried about the 1.5 million with so much money under the cap. So when do fans demand they put someone worth a damn on the field, and spend some of that cash.
