Dan Rooney Confirmed As Ambassador To Ireland

Only a day after the Senate held a hearing on the question of whether Steelers chairman Dan Rooney would be confirmed as the U.S. ambassador to Ireland, the Senate approved the appointment previously made by President Obama.
Per the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, Rooney’s assignment was confirmed by a voice vote.
Rooney will end his day-to-day employment with the Steelers, where he has worked since 1955.
The reins will now pass to his son, team president Art Rooney II.

Cronyism at it’s finest.. Political bribes, errrrr contributions, should be done away with completely. We’ll never get a chance at honest government, donkey or elephant, until that happens.

on a serious note: congrats and good luck to Mr. Rooney.
PS – Florio it’s been almost 24 hours until your last Favre thread, maybe you can “rip” one off before the clock trips the “days with out a Fart-Meter”

Wow, the economy is really bad when someone with 45 years experience needs to go overseas to find work.

Rich655, good one , you cracked me, arent these tough times!

Rooney Rule + campaign contributions = being associated with Hussien Obama administration’s War on Prosperity and the destruction of the U.S. economy.
Looks like the US lost the Cold War when Commies run the White House.

Good riddance. Great owner, but he shackled the NFL with the Rooney Rule and Rooney Rule II.

    ……………………………………
Shackled?? Where do you get that? The Rooney Rule only states that minority candidates need to be interviewed…..not necessarily hired. The best man still gets the job.

Friends & campaign contributors have been nominated as ambassadors since we settled disputes with clubs, and the highest form of art was cave wall paintings. It’s nothing new.
At least this time the nominee is a genuinely good guy. Hate to see him leave Pittsburgh & the NFL. Fare thee well, Mr. Rooney, the Chief would be proud!

You know what you get when add up both Bush’s and Ronald Reagan?
A trillion dollars worth of debt and some faux outrage when someone tries to clean up that mess. My kids and their future pray that you continue to be outraged.

Really? Then what’s the point of it if a team is just going to hire the guy they want anyways? So the NFL can say “Hey look at us we give black people interviews, we’re such a progressive organization”?

    @mrmagoo:
You know what you get when you add up Carter, Clinton and the 1st 6 months of Obama?
2 trillion dollars worth of debt, weak foreign policy, out of control government bureaucracy and nepotistic laden programs and a marked decline in social standards and national morality.
That Bizarro world sounds pretty good, doesn’t it?

    Housing Crisis started by…….CLINTON.
And BTW I voted for Obama so I am not some pissed off republican. Unlike you I like to use facts.

Isn’t Rooney the dude that made it law in the NFL that you have to interview someone based on the color of his/her skin? Good riddance.
My generation wants no racism no matter how the older generation tries to hide it to make it look pretty! You all mucked it up don’t make my generation suffer through it.

Wow and Great article “Alabama leprechaun”. NY times is a joke, good to see someone peel back the curtain on them.
I am going to send that link to a few friends of mine. Very interesting read to people who like facts.

You didn’t vote for Obama unless someone told you that those letters spelled McCain. Maybe the person reading this to you will tell you I said something nice.
    Try this:
“Some economists, politicians and other commentators have charged that the CRA contributed in part to the 2008 financial crisis by encouraging banks to make unsafe loans. Others however, including the economists from the Federal Reserve and the FDIC, dispute this contention. The Federal Reserve and the FDIC holds that empirical research has not validated any relationship between the CRA and the 2008 financial crisis.[97][98]

I don’t like to shoot down a source of news because distrusting the ‘left wing’ media is what made you guys into the insular, persecuted and crazy bunch that you are today- but when you drag out a sad blog as a news source, I gotta do it.

I’m sure this is where you tell me the Commies run Wikipedia.
    @tj.52
No it doesn’t. At all. Social standards? Ensign, Sanford, Vitter, Craig, Foley? That’s off the top of my head.

Can you point me to a source for the 2 trillion in debt?
It seems Jimmy Carter reduced the debt by 3.2% and Bill Clinton reduced it by .6% in his first term and 8.2% in his second term.
    Reagan: +11.3% , + 9.2%
    GHW Bush: +13.1%
    GWBush: +6.9%, +11.7%

They have nice graph to help you out as well.
