Chiefs Announce Colin Brown Signing

We've noticed an unusual trend this offseason.

We're not quite sure what it means, but it won't stop us from pointing it out.

For most teams that are signing non-first-round draft picks, the first news of it comes from the teams themselves.  In some cases, however, the media (or the Rosenhaus Sports Twitter page) reports the move not long before the formal announcement.

In the case of the Chiefs, there has been a significant lag between the reports that a deal is done and the actual announcement.

Take fifth-round pick Colin Brown, for example.  Reports that he had agreed to terms surfaced six days ago.  This afternoon, the team announced the move.

Our best guess is that this is simply another example of the Chiefs, under new G.M. Scott Pioli, believing that no news is good news for the team's overall interests, and that every announcement and other disclosure should be delayed as long as possible.

Or maybe they were just waiting to get the signed contract back from the kid.

Either way, Colin Brown is now a Chief, and we wonder whether the Chiefs are pleased with the fact that Brown or his agent leaked the news six days before the Chiefs were ready to acknowledge it.
