Mike Jenkins: "It's My Job To Lose"

It sounds like second-year cornerback Mike Jenkins has some inside
information about his status on the Dallas Cowboys’ defensive depth
chart.

Jenkins has declared that he’s the starter over Orlando Scandrick heading into training camp, making that abundantly clear on his personal blog, per Tim MacMahon of the Dallas Morning News.

In a blog titled “My Job to Keep,” the former first-round draft pick
from South Florida expressed confidence that he’s all set to hold
onto his job at right cornerback.

“Heading into training camp, I’m the starter at right cornerback,
and my job is to maintain that position,” Jenkins writes. “It’s time to
show anyone doubting me, and even the fans backing me up, that I’m the
guy the Cowboys wanted coming out of college. As a starter, the coaches
put a lot more pressure on you to make sure you’re ready for the
season. It’s tough because I feel like any mistake I make there’s
someone waiting to take the job away from me.

“It’s my job to lose, but there’s a guy behind me with nothing to
lose. If he makes a mistake, it’s not going to cause him to lose his
job. If I make a mistake, the coaches are going to take a long, hard
look at me in that position. That’s the nature of being a starter in
the NFL. You have to keep proving you’re good enough, that you deserve
it.”

As a rookie, Jenkins played in 14 games and recorded 19 tackles. He intercepted one pass, returning it for a touchdown.
