When Vikings linebacker E.J. Henderson was lost for the year last October, the Vikings didn’t have a clear plan to replace him.
That won’t be a problem this year.
The Vikings signed Jasper Brinkley Tuesday to an undisclosed contract. The fifth-round pick from South Carolina is expected to be Henderson’s primary backup at middle linebacker.
Brinkley made the all-SEC second team last year after missing most of the 2007 season with a torn lateral collateral ligament.
He looks like the sleeper of Minnesota’s draft class. Brinkley will have to learn how to play in a 4-3 scheme after playing in the 3-4 in college, but he knows how to fill a running lane.
