Another Reason For Brandon Marshall To Hate Denver

Broncos receiver Brandon Marshall doesn't like Denver.  Indeed, he told police in October 2007, "I hate this f--king city."

Well he now has another reason to want out.

As our pal Todd Wright of Sporting News Radio recently pointed out, the ESPN Zone in Denver is closing.

The reason?  The recession.

"A decision like this is never easy.  We recognize and appreciate the commitment and years of service of all of these employees," Rick Allesandri of ESPN told the Denver Business Journal.  "Unfortunately, the current economic environment offered us no other choice."

None of the other eight ESPN Zone locations will be closing, according to a spokesman for the chain.

Still, if the economy is hurting the ESPN Zone in Denver, it presumably is hurting the ESPN Zones in other cities:  New York, Baltimore, D.C., Chicago, Atlanta, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, and Anaheim.

Hopefully, they'll stay open.  We've been to the ESPN Zone in Baltimore, and Florio Jr. and I had a great time there.

Holy crap, did I just say something not negative about ESPN?

    What about Casa Bonita?

This dumba$$ article is another reason to hate Florio... ESPNZone sucks anyway. The food is terrible and the experience is overrated.

  3. Okey says: July 1, 2009 5:10 PM

Brandon Marshall would probably like it much better on the sunny beaches of Florida. Come on done to Tampa Bay Brandon, The Bucs could use a receiver like you!

  4. Razon says: July 1, 2009 5:12 PM

I have been to the ESPN Zoen in Baltimore and well it was fun, I think it was a lesser version of a Dave and Buster's and more expensive.

  5. onedoubles says: July 1, 2009 5:15 PM

The ESPN zone had the worst food ever. Closing because of the recession? Mmmmm, more like the place sucked

  6. straverse says: July 1, 2009 5:16 PM

ESPN Zone in DC is terrible. I don't think anyone would notice if it closed.

The one in Chicago was really cool too, surprisingly.

  8. brian_21 says: July 1, 2009 5:22 PM

The ESPN Zone in Chicago is amazing.

So is Chicago in general. Mike, you gotta go there sometime.

  9. BuckyBadger says: July 1, 2009 5:26 PM

I live in Denver and this ESPN Zone is not a very good place at all. Very cramped inside, the food stinks and the TVs are awful. Its going out of business because its probably the worse sports bar in Denver. I don't think it would have lasted even if the economy was booming. No one goes there and its not really in the LoDo or bar district area.

My son tells me that he hates me every time I discipline him. Of course, he is only 4 years old.

  11. Derelict says: July 1, 2009 5:32 PM

I got thrown out of that dump in 2005 when I was out there for Eagles-Broncos

  12. tbtsm15 says: July 1, 2009 6:00 PM

You said something positive about ESPN !?! I didn't think that was allowed from NBC employees.

  13. JSpicoli says: July 1, 2009 6:13 PM

I was gonna say I like the one at Phoenix Airport, but i looked it up and that is a Fox Sports Grill.

If you are there try it.

  14. Draft King says: July 1, 2009 6:25 PM

One nice thing about the ESPN Zone in Las Vegas is that you can bet on sports there! Good drinks and food from my experiences there in NYC and Vegas.

  15. Omega says: July 1, 2009 6:26 PM

Blame it on the resession if you like. I thnk it has a more to do with the quaility of the food and service. I can think of about 6 other sports related boards that are always busy. There is a new one about 3 miles form my front door and and it is SRO after 5:00 PM

    Omega, the last word

So much for my 200 previous posts. Had to re-re-register. Shoulda tried to steal Vox Veritas' handle and gushed about Dan Snyder's brilliance as an owner.

On that note.. not bashing ESPN is another sign that the corporate fetters of this new deal are akin to Lando Calrissean's ill advised (and short lived) alliance to the Empire. They've got you're marbles in a jar Florio.

Denver is complete garbage. The most transient city. California and Texas dump their garbage in that city.

    Marshall is right.

    Denver sucks.

The Mules will have another rotten season in 09-10.

    Go Raiders

  18. Lg5280 says: July 1, 2009 6:46 PM

    Derelict -

You mean that 49-21 beating the Eagles took in 2005?

  19. kielbasa says: July 1, 2009 6:47 PM

It was the worst place to watch sports in Denver. Huge, bad tv's, bad service, awful food, lousy arcade and right on the 16th Stret Mall, which is hardly the LoDo bar district. It's an outdoor mall where skaterats, buskers and homeless people hang out.

  20. geek says: July 1, 2009 7:13 PM

Denver is way too happening a place to care about a chain bar like ESPN Zone. The economy is hurting there, but the last I checked, there were a lot of great places to get good beer and food, and the locals would rather support the local bars than a chain like the Zone...

  21. empty13 says: July 1, 2009 7:19 PM

tbt, u know these media guys. "scratch my back and i'll scratch yours"...

might depend on the meaning of the word scratch?

  23. Whiskeytangofoxtrot says: July 1, 2009 8:17 PM

I agree with those saying how bad ESPNZone is.. the food, the service, the entire freaking "experience". I had the displeasure of dining at the one in Vegas a while back, during a MNF game. They had tacky signs on every table stating how much moolah you were required to spend to stay seated during the game. The service was glacially slow (took 20 minutes to get my first cocktail, wtf??!), the steak I had was easily the worst I've EVER had anywhere (Sizzler would have rejected this piece of horsemeat) and everything was hideously expensive, magnified by the fact that the food quality & service were waaaay below par. I'm shocked that any of these dumps are still in business. ESPN should either demand that whoever runs these tomaine palaces up their standards, or withdraw their name from them.. doesn't make ESPN look good at all.

  24. JAWS says: July 1, 2009 8:21 PM

I agree with Marshall...I went to Denver thinking it was a beautiful place,..I changed my mind my first hour there,..alot of loser homeless types walking around panhandling...Denver sucks, the Broncos will fight with KC for cellar supremacy,..Pat Bowlen is a drunk that destroyed his team...running Shanahan and Cutler out of town is still mind boggling.

  25. EdReed4prez says: July 1, 2009 8:22 PM

Please Ozzie, stay away from this clown. I'm so sick of hearing about Brandon Marshall, I'll be very disappointed if he becomes a Raven. Character is way more important than potential.

  26. UFL says: July 1, 2009 8:47 PM

What is amazing about Denver , Raider nation is out numbers the Mule fans.

    Denver: 4 Super Bowl losses

  27. 56lightsout56 says: July 1, 2009 9:04 PM

Not only did not say anything negative about ESPN in the article, but you didnt mention anything about Lord Favre in it either.

    your slipping, Florio

NBC, please conduct a quality control audit for article content by your noob writer.

    thank you.

  28. INVAIDUH says: July 1, 2009 9:38 PM

Not bashing ESPN shows that you might've jumped the shark.

ESPN sux. Where'd ya go Florio.

    Oh yeah.. Denvah sucks too.

  29. finndawg says: July 1, 2009 10:10 PM

Hmmm. Florio joins the mainstream media at NBC and wastes no time promoting ESPN... I knew things were going to change but didn't think it would happen this quickly. Hell, I might as well subscribe to ESPN Insider because it will be just about as objective...

  30. PatLeland says: July 1, 2009 10:26 PM

Why would joining a competitor of ESPN cause Florio to promote ESPN. That would be like promoting coke because you work for pepsi. I actually believe the site wont change much if at all.

  31. INVAIDUH says: July 1, 2009 10:29 PM

    @finndawg.

Don't do it...There's enough free content on the
web that nobody should have to pay for ESPN
or ANYBODY elses Nonsence and B.S.

Like we should be so lucky to read their "opinions".

    Step away from the ledge.

  32. Bubby Brister says: July 2, 2009 12:03 AM

You're all grown men. I'm sure Florio Jr. was the one who really loved it. So mission accomplished, I'm sure.

  33. Kevin from Philly says: July 2, 2009 9:47 AM

Yeah, I've been to the ESPN zone in Vegas and Baltimore. Worst food ever. Makes Applebee's seem tasty by comparison. Hell, it's even worse than Planet Hollywood.

  34. straverse says: July 2, 2009 10:47 AM

UFL- Denver is the most transient city? I don't think so. We've got that "honor" right here in DC.
