Do Not Sleep When Cris Carter Is Speaking

The NFL Rookie Symposium is hardly the only work-related seminar to put some of its attendees to sleep.

But it’s the only one that has a legendary wide receiver on hand to wake you up.  Then rip you.

Cris Carter reportedly got after a rookie that was dozing off to the former Viking’s soothing voice.

Using the moment as a teaching point, Carter told him that players who don’t want to learn from those who know more than they do won’t last long in the NFL.

And thus wrapped up the three-day league event.

The only matter hanging now is the identity of the sleeping rookie.

We do know it wasn’t Percy Harvin.

    Andre Smith.

    I bet it was Crabtree

    Cris Carter is just jealous of all the money the young studs are making, he needs to shut his effing trap. What a horrible hire by ESPN, this guy is unbearable. I won’t say he’s in Marcellus Wiley territory, but it’s close.

    Sleepy Floyd? Wait, that’s basketball…

  5. uni-ab says: Jul 1, 2009 4:40 PM

    Innocent mistake… Matt Stafford just looks like his is sleeping.

    41 – 0.

    The Union should put into the new CBA that forcing rookies to listen to Chris Carter is unacceptable.

  8. CapsLockKey says: Jul 1, 2009 4:56 PM

    Cris Carter never had problems of falling a sleep in symposiums and team meetings because he did a few lines of coke in the bathroom beforehand.

  9. HappyBunny says: Jul 1, 2009 4:59 PM

    Also, do not speak when Cris Carter is sleeping.

    @FLORIO_IS_A_SELLOUT
    He makes Marcellus Wiley look like Howard Cossell. Crissy Carter is the definition of an insufferable d-bag. Typical ESPN big name-no talent hire.

  11. longrodvanhungendong says: Jul 1, 2009 5:10 PM

    Harvin could have very easily been sleeping at the time, just not at the symposium. I’m not a fan of Carter but he can speak of screwing things up and then getting it together. He had good second half of his career after a rough start.

  12. Agent Michael Scarn says: Jul 1, 2009 5:15 PM

    he was probably ripping on Darrius Heyward-Bey yet again

  13. brian_21 says: Jul 1, 2009 5:23 PM

    So, if someone is dozing off or doesn’t want to listen to Chris Carter, then he thus won’t last long in the NFL.
    Impeccable logic.

    @Pea Tear Griffin
    I truly hope it wasn’t Andre Smith. Then again, if it was, Mike Brown just lowered his price.
    @FLORIO_IS_A_SELLOUT
    Nice screen name. He is an incompetent liberal lawyer, what did you expect?

  15. Peepshowmopguy says: Jul 1, 2009 6:00 PM

    I take it he must have been quoting from Homer’s Odyssey if someone fell asleep during the course of the lecture. No, wait, never mind, Mike didn’t criticize Carter.
    Mike has made it clear that these guys are good for only one thing: getting paid money to bash in each other’s brains, right? (Eyes roll). Heck, why even bother making them go to college? Or even High School for that matter (no its not that different)?
    Since Mike’s set the standard by lowering the bar, why even bother encourage them to try to meet any of societies other virtues such as, I don’t know … rules and laws? To mimic Mikes own words from his post about De Smith; For most of them, following rules is a means to an end, and the only rules they ever really need to follow comes with the title “NFL Rulebook.”
    Chris Carter ACTUALLY puts someone to sleep and he gets applauded for making a scene about it, while De Smith tries to speak intelligently to those same men and he’s berated for being TOO SMART.
    No, I’m not going to let this go. I’m not saying Mr. Carter is wrong in any way, just that you have applied a double standard when it comes to what is expected from an NFL player. But then again you are a Lawyer, and a pretty good one I hear, so I guess I shouldn’t expect any different. See, I can lower the bar too…

  16. empty13 says: Jul 1, 2009 7:35 PM

    the bar is pretty low for lawyers already.

  17. Colts2145 says: Jul 1, 2009 7:41 PM

    Does it matter whether or not Carter is being a hypocrite? The advice is good no matter who it’s coming from. If you can’t pay attention when someone is trying to share knowledge with you, no matter how much talent you have you won’t make it in the NFL.
    @Peepshowmopguy:
    Gregg wrote this, not Florio. Florio hasn’t applied any double standard (yet).

    maybe it was Florio

    Cris Carter is a former Eagle turd. Who cares what he has to say? Everyone should go to sleep when he opens his ignorant yap.

    I really dug CC as a receiver. Had a little problem when he left Philly to become a Viking and then suddenly pledged his allegiance to Minnesota. All he does is “catch touchdowns” but I lose respect for him when he opens his trap. I have a real hard time watching him on “that” network with his headjerks and dribble. It just seems weird to have a post-cokehead trying to be a rolemodel. Great, great receiver, potential HOF, he should have left it at that.

    Especially cause carter did such a great job mentoring randy moss…

  23. Maxzius says: Jul 2, 2009 5:01 AM

    To fall asleep at the Rookie Symposium is stupid in the first place. To do it while Carter is actually trying to teach you something is utterly idiotic.
    Here’s part of Carter’s speech if you haven’t seen it (video is embeded in article).

    Florio, what did you do during the switch? You created a double headed monster now…
