A lengthy memo from the UFL to potential players and agents plus the sssslow time in the NFL equals an opportunity to generate multiple PFT blurbs.
So here’s another one.
In the memo that we’ve obtained regarding the terms of employment with the upstart football league, the UFL explains that agents are permitted.
Agents already certified by the NFL can work for UFL players by filling out a registration form and submitting a fee of $250.
And the UFL will use a procedure for collecting fees significantly different from the long-term protocol in the NFL. The UFL will deduct the agents’ fees directly from their pay, and the UFL will submit the fee payment directly to the agents.
In the NFL, agents must bill the players for the fees, and the agents must sue the players who stiff them.
But agents aren’t really necessary. The memo plainly states that all UFL contracts are non-negotiable.
Which means that there’s nothing that an agent can really do to earn a fee.
And the fact that the terms are being foisted on the players on a take-it-or-leave basis could prompt the UFL players to attempt to unionize.
Unions are never needed.
Wow! What an exciting first day here at UFLTalk.com!
Does anyone really give a crap about the UFL?
slllllllllllllllllllloow newsday eh Florio?
Players Union. Give me a break. Abolish all of them.
with so little $ on the table, not enough chum to get the sharks…er… agents… interested.
Florio:
thanks for not migrating my ID and password — always nice to waste my time by re-registering…
The labor lawyer in you is showing again Florio.
Unions have killed this country, see Detroit.
Unions didn’t kill Detroit… The guys making $30 an hour did the job they were paid to do… The management didn’t design a competitive product. Local 177 represent teamsters
Agents might be necessary to line up appearances and sponsorships. If there’s any real money to be made in this league, that would appear to be where it would be.
