Recently, news emerged that Dolphins cornerback Vontae Davis, a first-round pick in the 2009 draft, had been arrested.
Davis invoked the Eddie Murphy defense.
As it turns out, Davis was right.
Police in Champaign, Illinois dismissed the charges today.
"We have dismissed the traffic ticket and ordinance violation issued in Vontae Davis' name," said John F. Murphy of the Champaign police department, in a statement issued by the Dolphins. "We are satisfied that he was not the individual we had contact with June 9, 2009.
"We are working to identify who the individual actually is and pursue charges against him. We regret any embarrassment or inconvenience this situation has caused for Mr. Davis."
Davis said that he lost his wallet while in Illinois earlier this year.
