Ryan Leaf is still facing a fourth-and-long legal situation in Texas because of pending drug and burglary charges, but at least the former San Diego Chargers bust just caught a break in the state of Washington.
According to the Associated Press, per the former NFL quarterback’s lawyer, a fugitive action filed against Leaf has been thrown out.
Leaf’s July 16 hearing in the state of Washington has been called off, according to his lawyer.
Leaf, 33, had been the subject of an interstate fugitive case after he was apprehended by federal Customs agents while retuning to the United States from Canada last month.
Leaf is free on $15,000 bail after pleading not guilty to the charges in Texas and is now free to travel back to his residence in British Columbia.
Leaf, who has completed a stint in drug rehabilitation, is facing eight counts of drug charges and one burglary charge in Texas.
He resigned from his post as the West Texas A&M quarterbacks coach in November after his alleged abuse of prescription pain medication became known to school officials.
For his career, Leaf completed 48.4 percent of his throws for 3,666 yards, 14 touchdowns and 36 interceptions for a career 50.0 quarterback rating.
