SportingNews.com: Temperature Keeps Rising For Tannenbaum

With the back-to-back PFT posts on Thursday that:  (1) 2008 first-round defensive end/linebacker Vernon Gholston is struggling; and (2) 2008 big-money free-agent defensive end/linebacker Calvin Pace has been suspended for the first four games of the coming season, we suddenly had an idea for our end-of-week SportingNews.com column.

These developments serve only to increase the heat on the man who picked Gholston, and who paid Pace.

G.M. Mike Tannenbaum, who avoided a pink slip after a season that was sufficiently bad to get coach Eric Mangini fired, is now firmly on the hot seat.  And it just got even hotter.

Tannenbaum should’ve been fired 4 years ago. The guy is horrible and I hope he remains the Jets GM as long as possible. I’ve really enjoyed his run in spite of the fact he is a sorry, classless, clueless, rat phink slap dick.
Not to mention a brown nose, ass kisser.

    This guy is a rat
    Though Mangina took the fall
    He will be gone next

Tannenbaum has been the best Jets GM in quite some time.
    He has taken some hits
    -Kellen Clemens in 2nd round
    -Anthony Schlegel in 3rd
    -and potentially Gholston
But he has had some major hits
In his 4 drafts : starters D’Brick, Mangold, Revis, David Harris, Leon Washington, Dustin Keller and great role players in Brad Smith, Dwight Lowery, & Stuckey
Four major trades in getting Kris Jenkins for a 3rd & 5th, Thomas Jones for a swap of 2nds, Lito Sheppard for a 5th, and Favre for a 3rd…who was 8-3 before that shoulder blew out
Good Free Agent signings : Faneca, Pace, Woody, Moore, T. Richardson, Bart Scott, Jim Leonhard
And the possible clincher & what may turn out to define his career…Mark Sanchez for a 2nd & three “average at best” players.
This guys is active and trying to win. I will take him over any Jet GM in the last 25 years

Good thing Tannenbaum doesn’t work for Florio – he’s been gunning for him for years now ;)

He does have a catchy tune written about him though.

Tannenbaum is a loser who has routinely screwed up his 1st and 2nd round picks. He should have been fired last year! He’s nothing but a poser!

1st of all florio is a POS! 2nd Tannenbaum is going nowhere! The talent is on this team Mangina screwed the pooch.

What Rex Ryan doesn’t know is that Tannenbaum DOES kiss the ring.

Hey TimmyLamJones… all you’ve gotten out of that is mediocrity:
Tannenbaum has been the best Jets GM in quite some time. — That’s not saying much…
He has taken some hits — You are correct
    -Kellen Clemens in 2nd round
    -Anthony Schlegel in 3rd
    -and potentially Gholston
But he has had some major hits
In his 4 drafts : starters D’Brick (average at best but not dominant as his draft status warrants), Mangold (definitely a great pick), Revis (ditto), David Harris (ditto), Leon Washington (ditto), Dustin Keller (he can catch but can’t block, let’s see how he develops) and great role players in Brad Smith (garbage), Dwight Lowery (garbage), & Stuckey (for what, his preseason stats?)
Four major trades in getting Kris Jenkins for a 3rd & 5th (wore down as expected), Thomas Jones for a swap of 2nds (had one good year out of two), Lito Sheppard for a 5th (never healthy and Philly has been trying to get rid of him for years, figures the sucker Jets would take him), and Favre for a 3rd…who was 8-3 before that shoulder blew out (how can this be a good trade if the team didn’t even make the playoffs? you make that move to go to a super bowl, not to sell tickets and create excitement, bottom line is he was old and the Jets looked silly kicking Pennington to the curb)
Good Free Agent signings : Faneca (ask any scout, most of their sacks were because of him, he gets by on his reputation from his younger years), Pace (good pickup), Woody (garbage, another turnstyle), Moore (solid), T. Richardson (solid), Bart Scott (before saying he’s a good free agent, let’s see how he does), Jim Leonhard (see Scott)
And the possible clincher & what may turn out to define his career…Mark Sanchez for a 2nd & three “average at best” players. (good trade on paper but he still has to get it done on the field for this to be a good trade)
This guys is active and trying to win. I will take him over any Jet GM in the last 25 years

He sinks or swims ultimately with Sanchez, but he’s hedged his bets nicely with the Rex Ryan move. this season he can blame on either of them. He’s a bum, but a shrewd one. Certainly no worse than our last “Football Guy,” Tom, the gutless pimp, Donahoe.

    Tannenbaum Rocks!
U Patriot fans are really morons.
Florio’s pathetic obsession with Mr. T i s getting really comical.
Kinda like Bellicheats little napkin notes / video cams = SAD INDEED !
    LMAO

Tannebaum has been a great GM, but when you spend that type of money and make those type of moves you expect bid results. Turning a 4-12 team into a 9-7 team is nothing to be ashamed of…Favre got hurt and Mangini couldn’t bench the legend.
—Making the move to clear out Pennington was a good move. He wasn’t putting the Jets over the top
—Getting Sanchez for scraps for a steal
—It is on Rex Ryan to get these guys to produce over the next 2-3 years and hopefully longer
