PFTV Does The NFC South Over/Under

We roll out our first set of PFTV segments as part of the NBC family by taking a look at the NFC South, with the over/under approach that Joe Brocato “borrowed” from PTI.

We’ll finish things up next week by looking at the NFC West.

Previously, we pondered the AFC East, AFC North, AFC South, AFC West, NFC East, and NFC North.  And we’ll be deleting the ones that we end up getting completely wrong.

So, in other words, we’ll likely eventually delete all of them.

I felt like watching someone who was brain dead today and just my luck Florio put up another PFTV segment.

Regarding the absence of DE’s Will Smith and Charles Grant for the 1st 4 games of the season, they still have Bobby McCray who had 6 sacks last year and newcomer Paul Spicer, the ex-Jag, who ain’t too shabby.
Dan Morgan dickin’ them around was a crock, and they already lost their 4th round pick LB Stanley Arnoux for the season. I think ex-Falcon Mark Simoneau is still with them, he was injured all last year but is a solid back-up.
Their secondary can only improve with 1st rounder CB Malcolm Jenkins and free agent CB Jabari Greer and the return of 2008 2nd rounder CB Tracy Porter from injury.
Their offense is still beastly, but will still finish behind the Atlanta Falcons in the NFC South. :D

    “The wheels are falling off”?
    “Far fewer than nine” wins?
What’s in YOUR water bottle Florio?
I’ll take any bet you got that the Bucs win AT LEAST nine games.
    Let me know.

Sorry Florio, I just don’t see the Falcons with a better record than the Saints this year and I sure don’t put Matt Ryan in the same category as Peyton Manning and Tom Brady.
Look at the way a few important games break down that both teams have in common. The Saints and Falcons both play the following teams, that should all be competitive this year:
    Giants, Jets, Cowboys and Patriots.
The Falcons play all these games on the road. The Saints get all these games at home. (I see the Saints going 3-1 or 2-2 in these games and the Falcons going 2-2 or 1-3.)
A couple of games you would figure both should win:
    Buffalo and Miami.
Falcons get these teams at home (should win easily) while Saints have to get on a plane to beat both of these teams. (Both Saints and Falcons should go 2-0 here.)
The only games with what would look like a clear scheduling advantage involving the Saints and Falcons would be the Eagles and Redskins games where the Falcons get these at home and the Saints get these two teams on the road. Regardless, I see both the Saints and Falcons splitting these games anyway. (I see both teams going 1-1 here.)
Then look at the non-common games. Falcons get the Niners on the road (after the Falcons bye week.) and Chicago at home the next week. (I see 1-1 here.) While the Saints get Detroit at home and the Rams on the road. (I see 2-0 here.)
Florio, you have to look at the schedule before making predictions. I would guess the Saints win at least two more games in their non-divisional schedule versus the Falcons total. Division wins should be about the same. Saints go 11-5 or 10-6, while Falcons go 9-7 or 8-8.

The problem with the Falcons is that they ran Turner into the ground last year and the chance he is effective this year is the same chance that Larry Johnson had in 07 and Shaun Alexander had in 06…which is to say, it’ll take an epic performance. Also, Gonzo is about 45 now.
I just don’t see them in the playoffs at all…even though I do like Ryan and White.

I didn’t know Bucs fans were so delusional. If y’all think your team is better than last year, you need, or will need therapy. The loss of Garcia to whatever you decide will start is atleast 2 games less.
Panthers around 7-8 wins, sorry we have no depth on the lines. That will hurt us at some point. The RB tandem and Steve Smith threat can carry them this far.
I agree with Mike, Saints around 9, they didn’t improve enough and are an injury from Bree’s or Pierre away from a losing streak.
Falcons by default will pick up some games in the South, but they better take care of Turner. 376 carries is a ton. Never understood why they don’t use Norwood more.

I loved your analysis of the contribution that their new D-Coordinator Gregg Williams will be making to the defense.
Oh wait. You didn’t. Nice thorough analysis.
Still a huge fan of the site though.

Coming from a Bucs fan, I have to agree that this will probably be a tough year. Obviously, they’re rebuilding, but add to it that we’re playing the toughest schedule in the league and you have a recipe for five wins. But I’d like to add two things:
    1. Preseason predictions are usually worthless. Nobody thought the Dolphins and the Falcons would be as good as they were last year. If Raheem Morris is the motivator everyone says he is, the Bucs could conceivable surprise. They’ll need steady QB play and for that new defense to come together fast. It’s a long shot, and MY money isn’t on it, but it could happen.
    2. I don’t think the “wheels are falling off” at all. I think they made an executive decision to overhaul the front office and coaching, which–as I have needed to remind you several times–COST the Bucs money in the form of guaranteed salaries to Jon Gruden and Bruce Allen. They are going young and rebuilding with a new coach and talented up-and-coming GM in Mark Dominik.
