McNair's Mom Calls Shooting "The Devil's Work"

The mother of quarterback Steve McNair, who was shot four times and killed on Saturday, tells Jim Wyatt of the Tennessean that she doesn’t care to know the identity of the person who pulled the trigger.

“I don’t want to know,” Lucille McNair said.  “Because the way I see
it, it was the devil’s work and not God’s work.”

Though the same can be said of any intentional taking of human life, it rarely is articulated in such simple yet eloquent terms.

“I’m
not mad,” she added.  “I am just grieving over my son.  He was a great son.  He was
special.”

McNair’s mother and other family members plans to travel from Mississippi to Nashville this week.  A public memorial has been scheduled for Thursday in Tennessee, with a Saturday funeral in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.

Police have yet to classify the incident as a double homicide or a murder-suicide; 20-year-old Sahel Kazemi was found dead with a single gunshot wound, and the weapon under her body.

Authorities have said that no suspects are being pursued– but maybe the police are simply saying that so that anyone who might be under suspicion will let his or her (or their) guard down.

  1. By blaming it on the devil it also helps you absolve a love one of the poor decisions they made which contributed to their death.

  2. She must know something. I hope the police are seriously investigating the Devil to verify the level of involvement in this case.

  3. If that’s the case, you better get the Easter Bunny, Santa Claus, the Tooth Fairy and all the other creatures from Make-believe-land to track the Devil down.

  4. Glennski – you are a douche. A man just died and all you can come up with is:
“By blaming it on the devil it also helps you absolve a love one of the poor decisions they made which contributed to their death.”
We have no idea what was going on in McNair’s personal life. Lot’s of people step out for lot’s of different reasons. It doesn’t matter – no one cares.
    Now…back to you wife….

  5. I hope this whole situation can be resolved quick so it can stop being in all the news headlines. Regardless of the outcome it wont make life easier on either of these 2 families.

  6. Again, cheating on your wife even in the worst possible circumstances (which we don’t know if McNair and his Wife had an agreement, etc) should not result in murder.
It will be interesting to hear what happens with her ex-boyfriend. The kid is telling a different story regarding McNair and his girlfriend, claiming that she wanted to end it with McNair which is contradictory to her girlfriends’ statements. His MySpace profile also said that you shouldn’t let anything get in the way of the person you love or else you lose it forever. That could mean many things, and it would all be speculation, but I would think that he is a person of interest at this point.

  7. Hey glennski, STFU until all the facts are out. Regardless of any relationships the man didn’t deserve 4 bullets. He was a great guy, and bad s–t sometimes happens to good people.

  8. Good for her. She has her priorities in order. No human being is perfect, except for the savior that God sent us…Jesus Christ.

  9. ….or maybe it was Santa Clause. A murder was committed by a HUMAN, that was the ERROR is judgement. Pfffft.

  10. “Authorities have said that no suspects are being pursued– but maybe the police are simply saying that so that anyone who might be under suspicion will let his or her (or their) guard down.”
Way to go Florio, you just let the cat out of the bag. You blew it for the cops. Now they will never catch any suspects because of you.

  11. Hey, lets go to PFT and make fun of a grieving old lady and take shots at a dead guy…whoo, hooo!!!
Note to self: Don’t ever read the internet comments. It erodes ones faith in humanity.

  12. Yes her priorities are in order.. I hope if I’m ever killed my family says.. “We don’t care who did it.. it was the work of the devil”.. C’mon let’s get real here

  13. “Note to self: Don’t ever read the internet comments. It erodes ones faith in humanity.”
I agree – cowards have more freedom to express their opinions from the safety of their mother’s basement.

  14. This IS a terrible tradedy, but if he wasn’t a professional athlete, would some of you still be on your soap boxes?

  15. I guess the devil made him pull down his pants and bang a 20 year old. Sigh! We are repsponible for our own actions. I feel for his mom, but she is clueless when it comes to the bible.

  16. McNair chose his surroundings and people around him, and he chose poorly. His mechanics were way off, and he paid.
You can say he didn’t deserve it, and he didn’t, but dancing around a pool of gasoline with a lit torch is not considered wise, or immaterial once the explosion happens.

  17. florio, your last sentence is your best.
often you see police not reveal all the information or details, hoping the killer gets comfortable and “slips” up. also, when they interrogate suspects, often suspects will “slip” and reveal details about the murder that were never released to the public.
i’m guessing that’s what this is. i’m sure the police *know* that this is not a murder-suicide, but they’re omitting details from the public until they wrap up their investigation.

  18. Why do people bring religion into this football thread is beyond me.
If I wanted to hear that crap I would go to church.
What a waste of space churches are, they are used for one hour a week, if they truly practiced what they preached they would house and feed the homeless the other 6 days a week the building is not being used.
Back to whats really important in life , Football.
Even though McNair is not a hall of famer if there was a HOF for toughness he would get in first ballot!

  19. I respect that the mother is a religion person, however she is quick to disregard Galatians VI, “Whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.” You can’t just pick and choose the parts of the bible you like.
