So Far, So Good With NBC Partnership

After the switch was flipped in the wee hours of July 1 from the old hamster-powered PFT to the new PFT on NBC, we posted a welcome message to those of you who were discovering us for the first time.

And based on Monday’s traffic numbers, we need to run a link to that blurb, since plenty of you missed it the first time.

Fueled by multiple mentions during NBC’s weekend sports coverage (including the singles finals from Wimbledon), a large new chunk of unique visitors showed up on Monday, the first work day after the Fourth of July weekend.

We realize that the tragic circumstances surround the death of Steve McNair likely has contributed to the bump, but the increase has been too big to be the result of that incident only.

So to those of you who weren’t here last Wednesday but have since arrived, welcome.  And get ready for more of the stuff you’ve already seen, especially as training camps approach.

And thanks, as always, for spending some of the time that you should be devoting to your work obligations to check out the latest news, rumors, and information regarding the greatest sport in the world.

Florio, you gotta change the way this is viewed via blackberry back to the way it was. It is tough to check in on what has happened throughout the day because there is not a way to view every post at once, plus you cant even click a link to the next story. I spend many hours a day on the crapper reading this site on my blackberry, dont make me start having to read my favorite site, TMZ.com instead like Joe Buck.

What about the Turd Watch… still not seeing it up top!

what if NBC has a stupid story, what would you do then, would your loyalty make you biased?

  4. The Real Shuxion says: Jul 7, 2009 8:55 AM

    I concur with Gallagher.

    *sigh*
I guess gone are the days of rating comments and getting comment replies via e-mail…

  6. SaintsBucsPanthersSUKK says: Jul 7, 2009 9:36 AM

    Re-insert the ratings system!

    No comment ratings?
Give the people what they want!!
    So much for progress

NBC…ehhhhh. With the new site I end up having to login every time I go on this website. I click on “remember me” each time and it still doesn’t recognize who I am. It’s annoying.

I don’t care about rating the comments (I mean, who here really gives a shit what other people you’ve never meant think of your post?) but a way to follow the conversation in the comments would really be nice. Your RSS links for the comments don’t work, and it was really a benefit to have comment replies e-mailed to you like in the old days.
Otherwise I really enjoy the new layout.

    I second the *sigh*

seriously, pft for mobile HAS to be improved. on my device, i get a black font against a dark gray background…its almost unreadable (except for the hyperlink text, which is bright red)

    @ SpartaChris
    When you’re, uh, working
    It’s a good way to pass time…

I would prefer a BB style board forum with comments on particular topics. it’s much easier to follow and organize. The way this place is setup is kind of annoying.

  14. Greg from Louisiana says: Jul 7, 2009 11:04 AM

Now instead of video, I get a message that 3rd party flash content is required. Guess what? That ain’t happening. Better get the NBC webmaster off his butt and start thinking outside his box.

  15. stouty says: Jul 7, 2009 11:13 AM

Please fix the PFT Mobile Edition.
It is not optimized for viewers on the go. It doesn’t show every story, doesn’t allow comments and doesn’t let users navigate through the site.
PFT on the Blackberry was perfect before it got “optimized.”
    Please fix

  16. Joe in Raleigh says: Jul 7, 2009 11:17 AM

Well, the NBC PFT is just like the old PFT except without ratings and without Turd Watch. Which is to say it’s not as good as it used to be — but at least you’re getting paid, right?!

  17. alewatcher says: Jul 7, 2009 11:28 AM

First of all, bring the comment rating system back. Not as much fun without it.
Second, there is no way that I can see that tells me if I’m actually logged in or not. I never had a problem with the old PFT site, but I’m constantly having to log back in, even if I tell it to remember me.

  18. dgreene78 says: Jul 7, 2009 11:51 AM

RSS feeds work much better now (especially on the blackberry)

  19. Bob Nelson says: Jul 7, 2009 12:07 PM

Not that I’m complaining, but hope you find this feedback helpful:
    1) The comments without being rated have gone way downhill. It provided some commentor discipline. Now there is none. A good short humorous comment got high ratings and complemented the story. The old my team is better than your team gorillas got low ratings but now pollute PFT.
    2) No mention of the Canadian Football League.
    3) Turd Watch was a very feature that is missing. Perhaps NBC would like to call it something else but it was a way of assessing the serious from the less serious and showing which teams were in danger of Goodell’s threats against team management.
    4) As with any new relationship, you’ve been on better behavior with less humor and less bite in your assessment of teams and players. I hope this blander content is just a temporary condition or the new guys are playing it safe(scared to lose employment in this economy).
    5) Why so much Black on the page? I like the continued minimal approach continuing without needless bells, whistles, and needless color but how about bringing back some grey shades?
Some of us would like PFT to continue and not break down into the same noise seen on Fox and ESPN sites. Talk to NBC about getting the rating system on the site.
Don’t let PFT become just another NFL message board.
Otherwise Mr. Florio, NBC may not need you someday.

PFT on the iphone was a lot faster on the old site.

  21. dawk20 says: Jul 7, 2009 12:25 PM

I’ve been a fan of Profootballtalk.com for many years now, and followed the switch! Congratulations!! My issue is with the BlackBerry feeds we now get… I used to be able to scroll down and read each story individually, and now its just a topic heading of each story.. I need my PFT news!!! Help me!

  22. JoeSixPack says: Jul 7, 2009 1:09 PM

Isn’t it wonderful that thousands of new PFT viewers tuned in to learn that McNabb was shot?
Seriously Mike – we’ve got to hand it to you.. it’s really something to embarrass and humiliate yourself like that in front of hundreds of thousands of avid NFL fans
Of course, this is EXACTLY the type of screw up that nearly all of us have experienced – just with smaller audiences.
As a reader from very early on I’m glad you’ve been able to cash in on a lot of hard work – and appreciate your ability to continue to embarrass yourself even now that you’ve hit the big time.

  23. mpritc1019 says: Jul 7, 2009 1:38 PM

Please, please, please fix the mobile PFT. I check from my blackberry and it sucks now!!!
    Thanks!
