Norfleet's Sister Says Rap Song Wasn't About McNair

The on-again, off-again boyfriend of Sahel Kazemi, whose body was found with former Titans and Ravens quarterback Steve McNair on Saturday, claims through his family that a rap song he made earlier this year with lyrics expressing an intent to kill wasn't about McNair.

So, basically, it means that there's a different "old man" that Keith Norfleet has vowed to put in the "morgue."

According to Norfleet's sister, there is.  Crystal Norfleet says that her brother was referring to her husband, who cheated on her with a much younger woman.  (In unrelated news, Woody Allen is moving to Nashville.)

"Music is an outlet for [Keith]," Crystal Norfleet told Kate Howard of the Tennessean.  "He puts his emotions on pen and paper, and that's where they stay . . . he never wrote that with Steve and [Kazemi] in mind."

Howard points out that Keith Norfleet has avoided the media since Saturday night, and Howard claims that it's "partly because of the way he is being portrayed and criticized by news outlets and bloggers."

We're sorry to disrupt your reporting, Kate, but is the portrayal and/or criticism of Keith Norfleet unfair?

Given his subpar and disturbing rap song and his YouTube channel, which TacoBill found last night, we believe that any portrayal and/or criticism flowing from those publicly-available items is deserved.

Besides, we still want to know what role if any he had in the events culminating in Kazemi buying a gun within "hours" after she was arrested for DUI.  Kazemi and Norfleet reportedly were together following the arrest.  Even if he had nothing to do with the deaths of McNair and Kazemi (and police consistently have said that Norfleet isn't a suspect, and we agree with that assessment based on everything we've seen), the reported timeline suggests that Norfleet might know something that will help shed light on what still is a very confusing situation.

I was ready, like most people, to have this called a murder-suicide and move on. But after reading (no way I'm listening) to the sub-par lyrics of this "song," and hearing about the rumored "roofie" threat, I smell the ill winds of a conspiracy here...

    Sure it wasn't.

anyone who writes a song with lyrics like that and posts them for all to see is a moron and deserves all the negative attention.

this norfleet guy sounds like a class act /sarcasm.

no wonder Sahel was all about McNair there - what a huge upgrade.

A 22 year-old amateur rapper both entered and left the condo unseen, murdered 2 people, and staged the crime scene to look like a murder-suicide?

And of course did this without leaving a trace of evidence and after being questioned by police, isnt considered a suspect.

We're just supposed to all agree with the sister of a thug? Or a wannabe thug? (I don't know which is worse)

Either way, you have to be a complete f#$king idiot to rap about something and then do it... but we're supposed to believe that this kid understood that premise? Or not think that he used that as the perfect cop-out?

And doesn't her story about "no he wrote about killing my husband who cheated with a young girl" sound EXACTLY like the same thoughts that a distraught nobody rapper JUST MIGHT have had regarding losing his woman to an ex-NFL star? ...one that's older? Gee, she's right... nothing to see here, move along folks. The simple fact that they guy rapped about killing someone in a situation as eeerily similar as what happened to McNair should be a huge RED FLAG!

The cops repeatedly said he's not a suspect? And Team Florio agrees with this assessment? Who's working this case? Rosco P Coltrane? Barney Fife?

You know Mike it really makes me queasy to see your wild speculation front and center on msnbc.com as if it were news. I have absolutely no problem with the speculation itself......but to see titles from this RUMOR site like "Questions Arise Regarding Kazemi's Ex-Boyfriend" on a site that should be dedicated to FACTUAL NEWS rather then speculation and rumor really concerns me.

I think either msnbc.com needs to keep your materials of its NEWS site or you need to impose a higher journalistic standard on your own content (which of course would ruin the site and the reasons we all love it.)

Keith Norfleet was the second gunman on the Grassy Knoll.

This is a great family. These two must have been raised by Ward and June Cleaver. No chance these upstanding individuals have ever been involved in any trouble.

Sounds like the entire Norfleet family has a gene pool in much need of high concentration chorine.

Well floor boy since you have focused on NOrthfleet as the second gunman on the grassy knoll since the beginning despite his coming forward to Nashville police with no fuss and the same police dismissing him. Yes I would say the focus on him is unfair. Because no one wants to question that after a DUI arrest in which McNair ran off she bought a gun if McNair had threatened her. She either was batshit insane or felt threatened to go and buy a gun. Either way odds favor McNair brought this upon himself.

    Norfleet is McNair

  16. Brian Moore1 says: July 8, 2009 1:01 PM

This crime may be, as Florio suggests, more “complicated” than it looks because police are determining if Norwood goaded Kazemi after the DUI. That’s not a crime, particularly if Norfleet wanted her to break up with McNair rather than kill him, but it would help establish a motive.

This is speculation, of course, but it’s a lot less ridiculous than the idea that Norfleet is a killer. He’s with her after the DUI. He asks her if McNair – who left her holding the bag after the DUI – is treating her with the respect she deserves. He tells her McNair won’t leave his wife and kids. He tells her McNair’s been treating her like a floozy, or much worse.

It doesn’t seem crazy that a few hours of this would drive her into a rage. And when you throw alcohol into the mix, and acknowledge that Kazemi has had an incredibly tough life, you’ve pretty much established a motive.

In all likelihood, Norfleet only intended to get her mad enough to break up with McNair. I’ll bet money he had no idea that she was capable of killing McNair. And once she’d done something as monstrous as murder, this formerly non-suicidal woman would instantly become more than capable of killing herself.

    @Zagg

Sloooww down dude. You are a little reckless in your asertions.
First...how did McNair bring this on himself?? I mean I am failing to see the point of view on that...now I am not sure what was said in that room before the shots began or what happened after the DUI arrests...but to say someone brought this upon themself is bizarre. Let's just say he broke it off with her in those moments ... and she shot him...do men some how bring upon themself to get shot because they break things off with a girlfriend or mistress...???
Second...it is being reported that he (Norfleet) was with her in between the DUI arrest and the shooting...could he (Norfleet) have been with her when she purchased the gun?? Could he (Norfleet) have been the one to point her in the direction on where to buy the gun??..if so..then he (Norfleet) would be the one that would know the motive as to why she purchased the gun because he (Norfleet) might have been with her..
Third...this is the same guy she called 911 on in January because of simple assault. She dropped the charges but still....she never called 911 on McNair. There were no signs of a struggle or argument in the condo. She never confided in family that McNair was abusive to her either. And lets say for arguments sake as you stated "if McNair threatned her" you shoot the man you are in love with...planning a life with..4 times..why not leave it at that...he threatned me ...I shot him ..I called 911...why shoot yourself??
But your statement that McNair brought this on himself is out of line...granted you are entitled to your opinion...but last time I checked...cheating on your wife or girlfriend is not just cause to lose your life.....otherwise...there would be a whole lotta people the grim reaper would be paying a visit to. A lot.

    "Hong Kong Phooey says

    A couple of points:

1.The headlines on msnbc.com for this site do not mention "Rumor" at all. They just say PFT: [headline] I would be more comfortable with the headlines if they clearly did indicate that these are rumors . Note the difference with how the headlines for nbcsports rumor section are listed on msnbc.com. They explicitly state: Rumors: [Headline]

I hit the damn submit button by accident!

Well, my second point was going to be that the links on msnbc.com take you directly to the article. There is no clinking on "RUMOR MILL" for folks coming from msnbc.com....maybe they notice the "Latest News & Rumors" listing at the top of the page and maybe they don't....either case their is nothing that differentiates between rumor and news.

All of us regulars know what to expect but Florio is getting a lot of new eyeballs that would not be familiar with the journalistic standard [ie widely entertaining speculation allowed] utilized by PFT.

    @ Brian Moore1

Interesting scenario. He could have been the one that pushed her over the edge. Couple that with he may have been with her when she purchased the gun or pointed her in the direction to purchase a gun (under the table of course because federal law states she has to be 21)
She very well could have confronted McNair after getting influenced by Norfleet.
There is one thing I am in disagreement with you on ..and that is McNair left her holding the bag regarding the DUI....how so?? She was the one driving. And this is the same cop that pulled him over a couple of years ago so you know he was going to go by the book. After failing the field sobriety test and by her own admission she said she wasn't intoxicated..but high...what could McNair do?? I mean he could have followed her to the station in the taxi ...but then what....I mean she has to be responsible for getting behind the wheel as well...

  21. Brian Moore1 says: July 8, 2009 3:40 PM

    @ JP

Those are good points, but they'd only be convincing to a person who was rational and sober, and Kazemi was neither. I was speculating about her state of mind, not whether McNair did the right thing.

McNair had plenty of good and practical reasons not to go the station with Kazemi, but none of them would've meant a thing to her.

  22. empty13 says: July 8, 2009 4:40 PM

sure mcnair brought it on himself. to say otherwise is sheer stupidity.

if he hadnt gotten involved with this other woman (and hadnt kept doing that stuff over time), this never would have happened.
