Shaun Alexander hasn't ruled out a return

Last year, the Seahawks shocked the NFL by dumping running back Shaun Alexander, only two years after he was named the league's MVP.

After he was cut, he received no real interest.

After the offseason workouts started, he received no real interest.

After the offseason workouts ended, he received no real interest.

After the training camps opened, he received no real interest.

After the preseason started, he received no real interest.

After the regular season started, he received no real interest.

Eventually, he signed with the Redskins in October.  He was cut in November.  In the interim, he appeared in four games, running the ball eleven times for 24 yards.

Months later, he has received no real interest.

But he has not ruled out a return to the NFL.

He recently told the Mobile Press-Register than he has had "preliminary talks with a few NFL teams," but he did not name any of them.

In May, Alexander said that he would play for "nothing."

If that's the case, he might want to consider the UFL.

But Mike, it's all because he's a veteran, and the league doesn't want to pay the veterans, right?

Let Shaun Alexander serve as evidence against anyone who honestly feels the Running Backs Over 30 theory is bunk.

I am thinking of a foray into pro football. I have been in contact with a few teams.

Someone (his agent?) might want to have a long talk with the guy. He was great once, but when you were a slow running back in your prime...well, figure it out.

For the record, I also have contacted a few teams letting them know I'm available, and that I'd play for the NFL minimum. I'm every bit the NFL player that Alexander is at this point, so why not?

I would like to declare myself eligible for the upcoming NFL Supplemental Draft.

Wait, so does the priviliege in the NFL expire when you're no longer considered good enough? I guess that means that it's not a privilege to play in the NFL, but you only make it if you're good enough. So, I guess all of that privilege talk is a bunch of balogna.

With his vast knowledge of the CFL, maybe Bob_Nelson can suggest an appropriate next career move for Shaun....Winnipeg Blue Bombers anyone???

The guy couldn't maintain a career running the ball against the NFC West(with their stellar defenses)? Can't believe nobody will give him a roster spot! I would think that Nick Saban would find a way to give him another year of eligibility.

If he could sign with a team with a healthy Walter Jones and Hutch to run up their butts... he could play again!

H e is a good human being and all but as a running back.....well he is the excellent product of a zone blocking scheme with and amazing fullback (Mack Strong) and and even better Guard (Steve Hutchinson).

As soon as Hutch left for the Vikings, Shaun Alexanders numbers dipped and once Strong was placed on injured reserve Alexander was done as a premier back.

He has no burst and is in no way tough - his gaudy numbers were dues to the talent around him. He should hit the UFL if he really lives the game...i mean he is already a millionaire.

He should get togther with Freddy Mitchell and jeff George, maybe they can pitch themselves as turn-key offense....come up with a gimmick name like the "Wildcat"...but different "The Old Cats"

Without a doubt, Shaun Alexander was the biggest travesty of an MVP selection in NFL history. This guy spent his whole career running behind Walter Jones and Steve Hutchinson, with Holmgren as the offensive mastermind and a good passing game to keep teams honest. He wasn't a good blocker. He wasn't a good receiver. And he played against the weak Niner, Ram and Cardinal defenses 6 times a year during his prime. You could have put 20 different starting NFL backs in that offense during those 3-4 years and gotten the same, if not better, production. As overrated a player as I've seen since.....well.....since Brett Favre.
