Curtis Brinkley shot in Philly

Chargers running back Curtis Brinkley has been shot, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer.

He signed with San Diego as a free agent in April after not being selected in the 2009 draft.

Brinkley reportedly was driving in the Philly suburb of Montco Cheltenham, and he was stopped at an intersection.  A gunman approached Brinkley's car and started firing.

The gunman then fled in a waiting car.

Brinkley was taken to a local hospital.  His condition isn't known.

The former West Catholic High School star, who broke the Philly prep school records of Kevin Jones, played college football at Syracuse.

Montco = Abbreviation for Montgomery County.

Nice tiger, that gave a laugh. I've only been in that area a couple times, but it doesn't seem like the kind of place that Brinkley would go if he was getting himself in trouble.

    Robbery gone wrong?

AKA the dirty side. But not as bad as Delco.

Montco is not a town - it's short for Montgomery County.

Maybe nine of ten of the foregoing comments are jokes - in the face of still another player encountering gun-related violence.

Not hard to see that life - just being alive - isn't valued much anymore. This will continue as long as we continue to accept it. At some point, too soon, such stories won't even be worthy of a headline.

Maybe the League will create a special draft category - "Spares" - so they can storehouse all-purpose players for when somebody goes down from a bullet.

I don't think Cheltenham is in Montco. I thought it was still Philadelphia county. Anyways, Cheltenhan is actually a OKAY area, this must have been organized (perhaps Marvins gang). I lived in Philly, Delco and Montco - liked all of them. But would prefer Montco anyday to live permanently. Matter of fact my house I lived in during my Montco years was up the road from Andy Reed.

I am not shocked to see something like this in Philly, the place is a shithole (I have been there before on buisness)

Fin - Cheltenham is Montco and actually, most of it is not that bad (the further you move away from the city line of Cheltenham Ave). Hope this dude is OK.

Philly is just like every other big city which are s-holes where the residents accept shootings as normal behavior.

Cheltenham def has its bad spots, its right on the border of Montco and North Philly. The troubling part is it seems that he was targeted if someone is just gonna walk up and gun him down.

    Guns =/= the problem
Knuckleheads & thugs = the problem

Also--who the hell are these "Reed" people everyone is talking about?

And are they any relation to Andy REID?

Philly fans are passionate...if only they were passionate about their literacy.

Read an account (don't remember the site...sorry) that he was going to pick up his sister, or female cousin, who had a fight with her boyfriend. It's assumed that the boyfriend didn't know that Brinkley was a relative, and attacked him thinking he was some guy moving in on his girl.
