Fins G.M. won't comment on Vick speculation

2107.jpgRecently, former NFL and current UFL coach Dennis Green suggested that the Dolphins will pursue quarterback Mike Vick, if/when he's reinstated by Commissioner Roger Goodell.

"I have a hard time believing that Michael Vick is not going to wind up with Bill Parcells," Green told Sirius NFL Radio, "simply because he has that creativeness that says that no matter what it takes, he's going to find a way to get Michael Vick.

The man who supposedly has final say over such matters in Miami (even though everyone suspects he really doesn't) recently was asked about Vick.

"No comment on that," G.M. Jeff Ireland told Mike Berardino of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. "That's not my deal."  (Ireland apparently realizes it, too.)

Vick is due to be released from federal custody later this month.  Presumably, the NFL officially will revisit his indefinite suspension promptly thereafter.

Though it's unclear whether the Dolphins will ever get Vick under contract, Ireland said the team hopes to have agreements in place with all 2009 draft picks by August 1.

"Right now that sense of urgency is not as high on one person as it is on the other person, and so it's hard to get deals done," Ireland said.  "When the sense of urgency sometimes comes from the player to get it done, then things get done.  When the end of July rolls around, I'm sure there's going to be a little higher sense of urgency on both parties to get it done.  That's usually the way it works."

Bill Parcells HATES guys like Vick. I'll be SHOCKED to see Vick on a Parcells team. Frankly, I'll be surprised to see Vick back in the league at all. Maybe in 2010, on a tryout basis. But nobody's giving this clown the keys to the franchise. He's not that good; he never was.

If Vick isnt asked to be the centerpiece of the offense I think he could be productive. Being a long time dolphins fan my opinion is that I think hes talented.. but I dont want to be the first team to bring him back into the NFL. Let him go somewhere else and see if he can get it done and not cause a media circus that distracts the team, then maybe id consider when hes a free agent again.

We don't want Sick Vick or his lineman-stomping brother down here in Miami. Thanks.

    Go Fins.

"That's not my deal" means that Ireland doesn't want to contradict the team's owner, who was quoted as saying he would be open to Vick being on the team if the situation were right (while acknowledging that he doesn't make such decisions). It has nothing to do with Ireland being Parcells' puppet, which you imply whenever you have the chance.

    Amen, TheDPR.

We just drafted a running QB with a big arm capable of running the Wildcat offense. He also, by all accounts, has high character, is a natural leader, is a tireless worker, and is passionate about the game. He is not a sociopath who runs gambling operations, tortures animals, and thinks he is bigger than the game.

We had one Vick until we realized what a turd he was, we don't need another one. Please go away.

Hey "TheDPR" - You apparently are unaware of what a drug-abusing, wild jerk Lawrence Taylor was. I think that Parcells likes "guys like Vick".

I think he liked LT, don't you?

What he doesn't like is anybody who doesn't take his absolute direction. Anybody who DOES, and Can PLAY he is fine with.

    CREATIVENESS..."

    Isn't the correct word "creativity"?

    Just wondering...

    Signed,
    Grammar Dick

P.S. Vick is who we thought he was--a lying criminal scumbag.
Neither Denny, nor Parcells, nor anyone else in "Pro" football, should "let 'em off the hook!"...

There's not enough space for both Michael Vick AND Pat White!

Vick is definitly not a Parcells guy!!! don't know what these idiots are talking about!!! is this a Peter King statement??? how does that idiot keep his job???

Vick in Miami would be very disappointing. I hope Goodell suspends Vick indefinitely and no team has a chance to pursue him.

I think that the commish will think twice before letting Vick came back. The NFL has had a TERRIBLE off season with arrests, courts cases, deaths, rapes etc etc etc.....

For starters if Tuna was interested in Vick you wouldn't be hearing about it and Tuna would be giving the impression that he's gone in another direction. Has that happened? Check.

Secondly, like or dislike of players has little to do with it. Tuna just doesn't like losing control. He is a master psychologist - he can deal with divas provided his hands aren't being tied (see TO). With Vick all the cards would be in Parcell's hands. He'd have a team of his guys to help keep Vick in place. He'd have other guys who can do the same job, so Vick couldn't sit on his ass. He'd be one of the very few guys who'd even consider taking Vick. Advantage Tuna.

Thirdly, nobody wants Vick as their fulltime QB. He'd only fit on a team with an established QB and a willingness to mix it up. Are there even 5 teams like this? Is Miami one of these? Check.

Fourthly, Vick, idiot IQ aside, is a physical freak. With the right scheme he can't really be defended against. The key phrase here is "right scheme". Nobody like the chess match of football more than Parcells. The challenge of figuring out how to use a guy like this has to be enticing.

Fifthly, Parcells is only going to make a move on Vick once it becomes clear that Vick has hit rock bottom psychologically. The just-released Vick doesn't seem to have learned anything. Tuna would wait until Vick truly understood the situation he's in. And then he'd wait a little longer. Is this happening? Check.

As it stands the idea of Vick in Miami is a hypothetical one at best. A lot has to clear up such as the suspension and Vick's attitude. But don't kid yourself, if everything lined up Tuna would seriously consider it.

    Queue the spin doctors.
