PFTV looks at league's attitude toward Twitter

On one hand, the league won't be allowing players to tweet during games.

On the other hand, teams like the Packers are issuing press releases to announce the establishment of their official Twitter accounts.

The league is attempting to strike a delicate balance between the embrace of social-networking functions and the importance that players and coaches don't get distracted by these new toys.

For more on the topic, here's another submission from a toy that we've yet to get bored with, PFTV.

when you get a twitter account it should come with a pink dress and dancing shoes

I didn't even watch your video, but the main reason why the NFL is against twitter is because they have not found a way to monetize it, yet. Once that happens, and it will happen, they will allow their players to do it and charge a fee for people to subscribe and get tibdits here and there. Another reason why they are against it is because of the gambling implications. A player may disclose that they will be out for the rest of the game, and people will jump all over the halftime/quarter line.

i'm glad to see "you guys" aka Florio tweeting away well on there. It's a good window into the lives of some of our favorite superstars.

This topic rates having to look at your ugly mug? I don't think so.

I called my cable company about getting PFTV but they said they have never heard of the channel. What gives?

So Goodell just says uuuuuhhh that's not alowwed? Ok so he just makes shit up on the fly and thinks he can enforce it? Uh. No spitting allowed, no swearing allowed, no getting mad, no ass slapping??? Really? How can he really stop him from a haftime twitter? Is there going be something implemented into the rulebook? Goodell is a bitch.

Is it any coinicidence that Florio's still shot (see above) clearly reflects his purple-helmet-loving, horn-blowing biases (see the background?)

Add in his penchant for splashing around in pools of his own Favre-drool (and other fluids elicited thereby) and the constant Cutler-bashing, and it's like he's not even TRYING to hide the bias anymore...

As for TWIT-ter...it's for twits. Notice it's only a letter away from "titter", which is precisely what stupid, inane, brainless little school girls do.

"Tweet"--each time a grown man utters the word, his balls shrink just a bit, more and more, until they eventually invert and become a full-fledged vagina, menses and everything included.

    As for the NFL policy...

    @ Kidekk: BINGO.

AND, they don't want players b1tching about refs, coaches, play-calling, teammates, whatever. The NFL is paranoid about ANYTHING that could potentially sullen its otherwise *pristine* public image.

    *eye roll*

All hail The Shield--what it cannot control (or profit from), it must outlaw.

    What's twitter?

I dont have to watch that clip to know the reason behind the no-tweeting rule. Im surprised nobody looked back at the Mora situation a few years ago when this tweet/no-tweet thing came up. If you cant make a call w/ a cell phone during a game, why would you be allowed to use one on the sideline at all?

Seriously, too much of a big deal is being made here. Woopity doo! A rule that was enforced years ago is being applied in a different context now! Hurrah for the slow news cycle!

When the whole sideline twittering thing came up, it took the enlightened (including me) as many seconds to connect the dots to the eventual stance of the league as it did days for the media (including you) to wait for the "official" stance, just to blow it out of proportion.

Haha--you got me on my previous still shot point
(PFT conveniently changed it up from Florio with a Vikings back-drop, to one of Chad)...

    Touche.

Really--I can look foolish and crazy all by myself, thanks.

It take me severel minuts just two tipe this up and makes sures that ther r no gramer errers and the migh spellin is correc.

Shouldn't players be concentrating on the game at hand? I was under the impression that between series, offensive players look at film, discuss tactics, and generally, talk/think about what is going on the field.

Players who Twitter during the game = Players who will never make the Pro-Bowl.

during a game, these guys have jobs to do.

so, no cell calls or twitter.

  13. tylerjanderson says: July 10, 2009 5:32 PM

What? Now we have to watch ads before we get PFTV???

    Bad move NBC!

This is what happens when corporate gets ahold of the blogs.

    Hey !

When the players get locked out in 2011 it will be nice to hear what these guys are up to instead of playing ball.
