Summers of Favre, Vick to hit full boil soon

Not much is going on in the NFL right now.  (But that hasn't kept us from constantly looking for stuff to write about.)

Things will be going on soon in the NFL, as negotiations for first-round draft picks begin to heat up and the opening of training camps approaches.

Things will be going on for another reason.  Actually, two things will be going on.

Very soon, much of the media's attention will turn to a couple of quarterbacks:  Brett Favre and Mike Vick.

For both men, July 20 is a key date.  On that day, Vick will be released from federal custody, and Favre's presumptive next team will commence the process of selling single-game tickets for the coming season.

So if Favre is going to play for the Vikings, he'll most likely announce his decision this week, so that all tickets will be snapped up minutes after they are made available.  (Our guess remains July 16.)  And if Vick is going to be permitted to play in the NFL in 2009, his reinstatement bid will accelerate significantly as of July 20.

Does it really matter when he officially announces he's coming out of retirement? If he waits until July 28th (the day before training camp starts) the Vikings will still sell out all remaining tickets.

"The Vikings will still sell out all remaining tickets".....Thank Christ the NFL has fans who travel with their teams huh?...This way the Vikings home games won't get blacked out......

As we all know by now Florio broke wind and the "Days Without a Fart/Farve meter" was reset earlier today.

Also, as you can see he let one blast again:

    July 12, 2009 4:58 PM

    "Days Without a Fart/Farve meter" = zero

First off, this is my first comment since the NBC hostile takeover (It's ok Florio, I know they had a gun to your head), and I didn't know I needed to resign up.

Secondly, are you serious? Posting about future possible news stories? You must be hurting Mike. Do they have your head in a vice?

  10. AlanSaysYo says: July 12, 2009 7:17 PM

Your guess is not July 16th, Florio. Your guess is July 3rd, and it was wrong. You don't get to pick again.

  11. dakotah says: July 12, 2009 7:22 PM

Actually, crackbubba, its not his head that's in a vise.

  12. se18a29 says: July 12, 2009 7:35 PM

Too bad Farve haters. He will be in the news with the Vikings all year long and no one is going to give a rats arse about your lame teams. LOL

sellouts or not, as soon as "Favre Disenchantment Syndrome" , aka FDS, hits... all kinds of seats to vikings games will be available on the open market. at minnehaha and elsewhere.

from fickle vikings fans. whether bf is merely underwhelming, or if they must revert to another qb. or a pseudo-qb, like t-jackoff.

I thought that the "Summer of Vick" would at least be good and warm now - with a TMZ-like stalking of Vick as he drills nails, moves wood frames, eats bologna sandwiches and drinks from his thermos. Not that I want to see that, necessarily - but when has that stopped the media?

  15. clones21 says: July 12, 2009 8:26 PM

My guess is some time before July 31st :)

  16. Beam me up Scotty says: July 12, 2009 8:49 PM

    Mike,

Don't listen to this riff-raff, you can guess as many times as you like! No matter what the guess, Favre's joining the Vikes is the going to be great. They're just jealous.......... Keep the Favre news coming!

  17. Nam Huynh says: July 12, 2009 9:02 PM

    So where's the news?

  18. East Bay Ray says: July 12, 2009 9:04 PM

The summer of George was much more interesting, with the big block of cheese and all.

  19. Bob Nelson says: July 12, 2009 9:32 PM

So why do you think Brett Favre would actually sign with an organization like the vikings??

  20. Facts Domino says: July 12, 2009 10:32 PM

Can Ookie and Mac9 trade places?

  21. ☻☼CBS, FOX, ESPN, NFLN nbc says: July 12, 2009 10:46 PM

Just like the Playoff game in Lambeau, MV7 will win

  22. dbess... says: July 12, 2009 10:53 PM

Do either of these two stories even really matter?? We all know its a given Favre is going to play for the Vikes this year and stink it up once again, does it really matter when this pathetic news becomes final. And I highly doubt that Vick will be playing in the NFL this season, considering the terrible legal developments the league had to deal with this offseason. Both stories are straight up garbage.

  23. CanadianVikingFan says: July 12, 2009 11:36 PM

    Brett Favre, don't unretire.

  24. trixstal says: July 13, 2009 12:39 AM

C'mon, these guys will be watching the post season with us...on the couch! Do these guys really matter? NO!

I can't wait for the season to start, then we won't have to see these names thrown in the press becuase nothing is happening at the moment.

  25. quasi44 says: July 13, 2009 6:11 AM

i want them both thrown in a pit. they can throw footballs at each other till they are both dead, or have to be put down. the winner can eat the loser, and then report for behavior modification therapy.

  26. Hungry N. Hadasnack says: July 13, 2009 4:13 PM

    The summer of Vick, huh?

Is that anything like those "dog days" of summer?
