Jets cut Bubba Franks

While Brett Favre continues to ponder his NFL future, the Jets have released one of his old favorite targets.

Tight end Bubba Franks was let go Monday by New York after playing with the organization for one year.  Franks caught six passes for 47 yards while serving primarily as a blocker.

Franks, who made three Pro Bowls earlier this decade in Green Bay, spent a few months on the free agent market before the Jets re-signed him in May.

Now Franks is free to join any team he wants again.  Perhaps Favre could use his pull and get Franks a job with the Vikings.

That’s assuming, of course, Favre actually wants a job for himself.

Ah, He’s really not that good. I was surprised Green Bay kept him as long as they did. I think he should a lot of promise so they kept hanging on, but he just didn’t develop. However, there is worse.

Bubba was a 1st round pick, made Pro Bowls and will get to tell his grandchildren about playing at Lambeau Field and catching TD passes from Brett Favre.
Bubba Franks played only 1 season on a team below .500.
His most famous bad play was not blocking Strahan on his record breaking sack.
But now the career is winding down.
I think Bubba can say he had a fun career.

Hmmmmmmmmm. Then the Vikes will know who is running the show, and that sure isn’t Chilly and company.

Calling the Minnesota Vikings ….. more Packer sloppy seconds are available.
Just think, you could relive the glory years of Brett Favre to Bubba Franks only this time in ladies Purple.
No seriously, this would be a great pickup – Franks would instantly become the Vikings best receiver.

Bubba Franks fits the profile for the Biqueens (see Darren Sharper, Robert Ferguson, Ryan Longwell and soon to sign Brent Favre) to sign him; he is an ex Packer, he is over the hill and a step too slow, and despite the fact he is not what he used to be, he is still better than what the Vikings currently have on their roster.
Or he might not be but the Viking brain trust seems to covet ex Packers in a strange and counter productive fashion. The same strange and counter productive way they hired their current head coach.

jrmbadger……perhaps they can go as far as Green Bay did last year….6 and 10…..impressive.
Sloppy seconds == division title my friend.

Funny that the Vikings with all those ex Packers still had a better record. Bubba hasn’t been Bubba for a number of years already, he will be lucky to sign on anywhere.

For you idiot GB fans saying Franks is an upgrade:
Franks best season (with Favre throwing to him)
    54 rec. 442 yds. 7 td.
    Shiancoe last year (Ferotte/Jackson throwing)
    42 rec. 596 yds. 7 td.
    Intelligence thy name is Wisconsin.

First round playoff loss at home against a wildcard team….. impressive.
Division title == worthless my friend.

Agreed. Of course the 6 is for the other team when Favre ignores the wide open Shiancoe and fires it to a covered Berrian.

You conveniently seem to have left out all of Shianco’s stats from the other years. Once is a fluke….twice is a trend. Even those stats are hardly that impressive. Donald Lee put up the same stats in 2007 for the Packers and nobody was calling him the second coming.

You have to understand that from a Biqueen fan perspective, 42 catches by a TE is a windfall. The point of context is comparing that to paying your #1 WR $44 million to catch less than 50 balls.
If I were the Vikings, I would be asking Berriman for a refund but then again, they blew a #7 overall pick in the draft on a WR that couldn’t even catch the ball so maybe $44 million on a WR is a bargain.
