ESPN finally hires an ombudsman

Nearly four months to the day after the last ESPN ombudsman handed the baton to a fistful of air, word comes of a replacement.

Richard Deitsch of SI.com, via our old friend MDS of FanHouse, reports that legendary sports television producer Don Ohlmeyer will be filling the position, starting in August.  (A.J. Daulerio of Deadspin reported last month that Ohlmeyer was the leading candidate.)

ESPN is expected to announce the move today.

The ombudsman typically posts a monthly column, which sometimes gets lost in the alphabet junkyard known as ESPN.com.  Hopefully, Ohlmeyer’s reputation and profile will prompt ESPN to publicize his work more aggressively.

Ideally, his presence will prompt the folks who create content for ESPN to avoid doing anything to get their names into Ohlmeyer’s ombudsman offerings.

When is PFT going to announce the hiring of their ombudsman. As of now its a toss up between you and ESPN as to who posts/reports more hot air nonsense. PFT, we post other people’s stories, add our own little sarcastic twist and pawn it off as our own rumor/story for the world to see. Hire your own ombudsman Florio and until then quit trying to call out ESPN when you’re guilty of the same BS.

Dude, seriously Aaron…. you are in front of a computer… it took you longer to write your post than it would have been to google it (or bing it.. break the googlopoly!!!)
It is about time that ESPN hired a new one. I noticed that early on Le Anne Schreiber’s column was prominent, but they buried it after they redesigned the website.
It was good to read that I am not the only one who is often furious with ESPN or should I say the Brett Farve, Vick, Red Sox network.

“Hey Pot, your black!” said the black ass Kettle.
I’ll second RumorMongering’s post. Love PFT and glad to see Florio Sr get some props for all the hard work…but sometimes he is the biggest Hypocrite of life! For real tho…

Hopefully, his first column will be all about ridding the world of Chris Berman.
