The Jets signed tight end Richard Owens Tuesday, filling the hole on New York's roster left when Bubba Franks was cut last night. (Filling Franks' special place in the Jets fans' heart will be tougher.)
Owens is primarily a blocking tight end who can also help on special teams.
He was out of the NFL in 2008 after getting cut by the Rams in training camp. He previously played for three seasons with the Vikings.
The Jets have searched for a blocking tight end all offseason. Owens appears to have a good shot to make the team as Dustin Keller's backup.

Not only is he a good blocker that can backup at FB if needed, he can also make the longsnap and save a roster spot.
Is this like filler news...just to take up page space?
Should of picked up Richard Angulo. Way better blocker.
Would have been better off keeping Franks.
