Ravens announce Suggs deal

NFL_suggs1.jpgThough the paperwork hasn’t been finalized, the Baltimore Ravens have announced that defensive end/linebacker Terrell Suggs has agreed to terms on a new contract.

A press conference will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. EDT Wednesday to formally introduce the deal.

“Getting a deal done with Terrell is consistent with our history of retaining our best Pro Bowl players, like Ray Lewis, Ed Reed, Jonathan Ogden, Todd Heap and Jamal Lewis,” General Manager Ozzie Newsome said in a release. “Securing Terrell for six seasons gives us a premier pass-rusher whose ability to stop the run does not get enough credit.

“When I think of what Terrell can do for us — the AFC Championship game immediately comes to mind when he sacked [Ben Roethlisberger] two times even while playing with an injured shoulder.  This will be Suggs’ seventh season, and he is still a young player.  Remember, he came to us as a 20-year old rookie after his junior year in college.

“This is a good day for the Ravens franchise.”

Of course, it comes only two days after a bad day for the Ravens franchise, when word emerged that receiver Derrick Mason will call it quits.

Then again, the Ravens have been competitive for years without much talent at receiver; a stout defense has always been critical to their success.  With Suggs under contract for six more years, they’ll continue to have one.

ESPN is reporting Suggs as the highest paid LB (despite Suggs’ insistence that he is a DE)…
How do his numbers compare to other LB / DE’s ?

Wow, four Suggs/Ravens stories in a row? You can’t just add to the others instead of making new ones? Good lord.

Who cares about his contract does Ozzie have any Brett Farve updates?????

  6. Heinekenfun says: Jul 15, 2009 11:17 AM

Unless Favre can catch some passes…., I don’t think Ozzie’s interested. He’s probably burning the phones looking for someone who can catch the damn ball.
    Where’s Keyshawn?

I so freakin tired of hearing about Farve, even on a post that has nothing to do with Vikings are even Offense. Retire or Dont otherwise shut up

Good for Frankenberry! They should pay him, I think he’s the only one Hines hasn’t knocked on his ass. That probably speaks more to how he disappears against the Steelers, but at least he hasn’t been posterized.

I’m sure DeMarcus Ware is going to be paying close attention to the press conference.

I wanted to comment on a different Suggs story, but it keeps saying I have to log in. On this story, I’m logged in. Go figure.

Suggs dissapears against the steelers mrmagoo, you must be as blind as your name. I do believe he sacked big ben twice with only one arm. get your eyes checked

Hey Magoobeeee, screw youbeeee,, last time I checked Suggs did ok against your all pro offensive line playing with one arm. BTW – is bart scott’s helmet still tatooed in Ben’s chest. And before you start talking about how many SB’s ben “won,” need I remind you that he has one of the worst QB ratings overall in SB history. Lets see how it plays out this year. Suggs is in the beginning of the prime of his career. He is 26 years old and will be given Jen nightmares for the next 6 years. Unlike James Harrison who will be out of football in the next two or three. Nice to hear from you again. Write back real soon.

Nice to see my fan club is intact.
Nobody’s scared of Frankenberry. I could 1 sack against our O-line. I think Ben’s chest healed up about the time Hines laid Bart out on national TV.
While your front office whined their way out of a primetime match up with the Steelers, Bart just took anything out of the division he could find to keep what was left of his dignity.

dignity? is that the same attribute that Jen had after bouncing his head off a car riding a pocket rocket without a helmet? or was that just plain-assed common sense?

Surely you know the difference between a traffic accident and your job. While I’m sure your job is a labor of love for you, I don’t think you practice in the street. Were you making an intentional non-sequitur?
