A near miss for Chris Johnson?

4743.jpgAs the "Days Without an Arrest" meter edges more closely toward the all-time record of 32, word comes from the land of Twitter of a possible near miss earlier today involving Titans running back Chris Johnson.

Johnson tweeted during a traffic stop, and he said that the officer believed that Johnson and the driver of the car in which he was riding were drunk.

Said Johnson:  "Me and @kennyturner is pulled over they think we drunk be we aint drink nothing my dawg ace the test walked the line touched his nose they mad."

So, apparently, the meter will continue to move toward 32.

Riding with a drunken driver is certainly stupid, but I must have missed when it became a crime.

Had the officer seen Johnson's Twitter posting about the incident, I am sure he would have arrested Johnson and used it as evidence.

His Twitter talk makes him sound drunk.

We may as well wave the white flag with regard to considering ourselves a civilized society. Somebody start playing Taps, and get the coffin ready, because American society is in its twilight.

Was the near-miss a english class? And by his texting, It was a mile-miss.. I am ashamed that some of these players dont take school more serious..

Too bad he could never pass an english exam

  13. jz0717 says: July 17, 2009 10:07 AM

Cleary, Johnson was an English major.

  14. capitala23 says: July 17, 2009 10:09 AM

Probably saw Johnson, knew he was an NFL player. Could've been racial profiling, but probably was NFL profiling.

  16. jaxjaggywires says: July 17, 2009 10:16 AM

I will say, at least he didn't write "ace da test" or "dey mad"...for him, that's likely a big thing.

  17. dcsween says: July 17, 2009 10:16 AM

So essentially, he got pulled over for DWB ... and all of a sudden, people are demanding proper grammar, syntax, diction, and spelling from Twitter.

  20. EricEmpire says: July 17, 2009 10:24 AM

Nice attempt bishopdon, but it would be "AN" english class, and they would take school more "seriously." How is it calling the kettle black from high up there on your horse?

Also, hayward giablommi, that flag has been waving since Bush was our president.

Can someone explain the term "near miss" for me? I don't get it. I think it is the worst misnomer ever. Isn't a "near hit," or "near arrest," a "close encounter," or, just simply, a miss?

I would think a "near miss" implies a hit? Am I crazy? This has bothered me for years and probably explains why I have no friends.

  22. XanderCruise BOOSH says: July 17, 2009 10:38 AM

The man plays professional football for a living. Who really gives a damn what his grammar is like. There are so many assholes that come here on their pedestal trying to knock millionaire NFL players off of theirs by making fun of their spelling and grammar. I'm sure they don't care, why the hell should you? And please no one tell me because it's showing how dumb our society is. I've realized how dumb our society is after I saw Freddy Got Fingered. Let him talk sland if he wants. As long as he can carry the rock and stay out of trouble, that's all anyone should care about.

Couldn't decide on whether to use "dey" or "day"
It's evident that grammar counts at ECU.

ok . First of all , the end of times are here when they have GLAAD being "accepted" into a church . So that is the surest sign of hell coming to Earth . . .

As far as Chris Johnson , why does everyone think they need to speak slang and purposely misspell words to sound " hard " or street . I know some of the true guys and they all appreciate knowledge , its just , as a stereotype that holds true - Black kids and those who wish to imitate them will never look to educate themselves as long as they can pass with this bs . Each and everyone of you are responsible for this , so you cant blame it on an individual.

Why is that? He has never been in any trouble. This is an assinine comment.

And I'm confused here. A guy he was riding with got pulled over, and this results in an article saying he was almost arrested? No one was drinking, no one was arrested, why is this news? Just like to drag people through the mud for no reason I guess.

  51. Kidekk says: July 17, 2009 2:37 PM

Umm, maybe I'm missing something here, but isn't he saying that neither of them had anything to drink? How is it a near miss if they were just pulled over, but both of them (according to Chris Johnson, who is the only source for this story) were stone cold sober? You're making this story out to be more than it really is: Chris Johnson was in a car that got pulled over and resulted in nothing.

  54. Mike F says: July 18, 2009 1:32 AM

I love watching his interviews cause he such an idiot. how about 'he "is" such an idiot' or because not cause

The above post is spot on Tweets are short txt msgs, not complete sentences, often to your friends using whatever words/slang you wish.
Give the man a break, he went to school & classes (maintaining his eligibility). Did you have daily practice, study halls, weight training, and travel to games, while you were studying in college, in addition to your classes? Yes, even at ECU, we put players on academic probation, and we fail players who make failing grades. I have seen Chris post in regular sentences of the same quality as other posts here. I have also dated a tutor who worked w/ the UNC football team who could tell you some horror stories. CJ is now a pro football player, how would do at his job, getting hit by 250-350 lb men who hit like trucks, would you get up, yea maybe to find your teeth. Your job may involve extensive written communication, his does not! Also, how can you come "close" to getting arrested if you are not charged with anything, he did not drink or get cited for anything, not a darn thing. Get off the man's case, I'm sure you have something better to do with your time!
