Battle looming over McNair's estate?

232.jpgThe absence of a will combined with the fact that quarterback Steve McNair had two children with his wife and two older children potentially will be setting the stage for a nasty legal battle, according to Chris “I Don’t Return Phone Calls Or E-mails From Slapdick Football Web Sites” Echegaray of the Tennesseean.

In filing paperwork to qualify as administratrix of McNair’s estate, Mechelle McNair listed herself and her two sons as heirs, but she reportedly said that she can’t confirm whether McNair’s two eldest sons are actually his.

Yeah, this is gonna end well.

The grandmother of McNair’s 15-year-old son says that McNair provided $500 per month for child support.  “We don’t know what’s going on and don’t know if he was entitled to anything,” Cora McNair (no relation to Steve) said.  “They need to get on board with this.”

And it gets even more interesting.  Agent Bus Cook isn’t talking about whether McNair actually left a will, citing the protections of the attorney-client relationship.

Cook’s stance implies that maybe a will was indeed created.

If McNair actually has a will, much of the legal fight could be avoided.

Unless Mechelle McNair challenges the will.

Either way, plenty of trees will die — and the lawyers will not go hungry.

Still think it’s a good idea for you to NOT have a will, Florio? If there’s money to be had, the grieving period lasts a couple of days and the lawsuit period goes on for years.

As details of this disaster surface, McNair looks more and more like a true scumbag.

McNair’s family tree is a weeping willow.

yea you knocked up too many females… my guess is McNair is paying a non-court ordered $500 a month unlike yours which is most likely taken directly from your employer

This just goes to show that you should always expect the unexpected.
Like the old saying says “Wear clean underwear whenever you leave the house because you never know when you’re going to get shot twice in the head and twice in the chest by your 20-year-old mistress.”

This lawyering business sounds pretty ludicrous, Florio. You should drop this site and get into that.

In the long run we will see that McNair was truly a douchebag and not the great guy some are saying now.

Lets see….2 kids with wife…2 kids by “Baby Mama”
Boinkin the waitress who serves his family when they go out…..boinkin someone else. But he can really throw ball, WOW what a man. MLK longed for the day when a man would be judged by the content of their character , not the color of their skin,,,,Mcnair might be better off leavin the character part out of it.

Dude, stop saying “slapdick” so much. It doesn’t make you credible. It’s been around forever in the NFL and anyone who follows the league knows that. You just look like an old lame person who figured out this “new” hip slang.

How does a man making millions pay $500 a month in child support ? One of my friends working in a factory making 36k pays that much ?
How does a man making millions sleep at night or look at himself in a mirror without disgust knowing he’s cheating his own child ?
How do people like Michael Jackson and McNair get all this praise when it’s pretty clear that they weren’t living the life we all thought.
I guess if you’re really good at something people will look past certain transgressions, even pedophilia.

Well, if she really doesn’t know if the sons are hers then she should have had no beef with him sleeping around. Sounds like it was standard operating procedure…

Why the heck is McNair’s widow taking it out on his older boys by cutting them out of his estate? More and more it sounds like it wasn’t a very happy household.

  23. pinkpanther says: Jul 17, 2009 3:08 PM

Yes, it looks like the world is looking past the fact that this great player was an adulterer; that’s right cheating on his wife. And to make it worse, he has another two children with another woman? and paying only 500 dollars a month? who did he sleep with to get such an arrangement?

  24. deltawriter says: Jul 17, 2009 3:22 PM

Administratrix is the female version of administrator, like testatrix is for testator, etc. It’s the term we use in Southern probate for the one who handles the estate when there is no will.
The wife probably didn’t admit the other two are heirs because she doesn’t know – she may believe it, but not KNOW it. It will be a simple matter for them to prove up heirship via birth certificates, admissions of paternity by Steve, etc. It’s not uncommon, nor is it nefarious, for her to simply make them carry their own burden of proof.

Hold up everybody. Steve had 2 children with other women before he married Mechelle. they are named Steve Junior and Steven. That makes me believe they have different mothers. These 2 boys are in about 15 or 16 and 17 or 18 years old — born way before Steve had any money – He was born in December of 1973, so he wa only about 35-1/2 when he was killed. These boys were born when he was in his late teens or early 20sa at least. Give them a break. They probably are Steve’s children and should be listed as his heirs. I think Mechelle is just trying to look out for her own children with McNair. She may have always wondered if the 2 older boys were really McNairs, but from what I understand, Steve treated them as if they were. If there is really a question, do a DNA test. I hate Steve made some bad choices that ended his life. I hae followed him since he was in high school and never heard anything bad about him until this happened. I respect Mechelle for keeping her cook during a time when most women would kill their husband for doing what Steve did, if he wasn’t already dead. The kids are innocents — they couldn’t help that their dad was a philanderer.

Probably the main reason that I would not want to be famous is my life would be left for other’s to interpret. It’s shocking to me that so many people can read one thing on the internet and all of a sudden Mcnair is a scumbag. Why are we so quick to pass judgement? Not to say that he hasn’t made mistakes. Who hasn’t? Lost in all of this is a young woman, albeit troubled, who has also died. This is a tragic situation but all I seem to read about is a dead man’s character. I can’t help but wonder how many respondents of this post would have their character questioned if they were found in a room with 4 bullets in them. That may be the only thing that separates Mcnair and anyone else. Judge not lest ye be judged.

A “mistake’ is making a typo.
Cheating on your wife is not a “mistake”!!!!! It is a CHOICE.

  30. Andrew Mayoras says: Jul 18, 2009 4:40 PM

Absolutely a big estate fight is coming. The two other kids are entitled to about one-third of the estate if there is no will. His wife wouldn’t have left them off unless she was contemplating challenging that they actually are McNair’s kids.
    Here’s why:
It will be very interesting to see if a will is found.
