Battle looming over McNair’s estate?

232.jpg

The absence of a will combined with the fact that quarterback Steve McNair had two children with his wife and two older children potentially will be setting the stage for a nasty legal battle, according to Chris “I Don’t Return Phone Calls Or E-mails From Slapdick Football Web Sites” Echegaray of the Tennesseean.

In filing paperwork to qualify as administratrix of McNair’s estate, Mechelle McNair listed herself and her two sons as heirs, but she reportedly said that she can’t confirm whether McNair’s two eldest sons are actually his.

Yeah, this is gonna end well.

The grandmother of McNair’s 15-year-old son says that McNair provided $500 per month for child support. “We don’t know what’s going on and don’t know if he was entitled to anything,” Cora McNair (no relation to Steve) said. “They need to get on board with this.”

And it gets even more interesting. Agent Bus Cook isn’t talking about whether McNair actually left a will, citing the protections of the attorney-client relationship.

Cook’s stance implies that maybe a will was indeed created.

If McNair actually has a will, much of the legal fight could be avoided.

Unless Mechelle McNair challenges the will.

Either way, plenty of trees will die -- and the lawyers will not go hungry.
