Perhaps out of necessity and also because of the preference of new offensive coordinator Jeff Jagodzinski, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are planning to orchestrate an aggressive, run-first game plan.
This represents a departure from the strategies of former coach Jon Gruden.
According to Ira Kaufman of the Tampa Tribune, the Buccaneers ran the football less than 45 percent of the time under Gruden over a seven-year span.
Apparently, that’s about to change dramatically.
“We will be a successful team running the ball, I promise you that,” said Jagodzinski, who’s also trying to pick a starting quarterback between Luke McCown, Byron Leftwich and rookie Josh Freeman. “That’s one of my strong suits, my knowledge of the running game. . . . We are going to be a one-cut, downhill, physical football team.
“If you have a strong running game, you’re going to have eight up in the box and you’re going to have your opportunities to take some shots.”
Plus, tough-talking rookie coach Raheem Morris echoed the philosophy shift, which also dovetails with the steady progress of running back Cadillac Williams from a torn left patellar tendon, as colleague Gregg Rosenthal detailed Friday.
Per the report, it will be a group effort between Earnest Graham, Derrick Ward and Williams as well as return specialist Clifton Smith on occasion.
“When you talk about the violent football teams, the physical football teams, the Pittsburgh Steelers, you think about downhill running and people smashing you,” Morris said. “When you talk about violent teams like the Jacksonville Jaguars, you talk about people running the ball downhill. We want to become those guys.”
since when is culpepper a buc?
Hey now you’re an All Star get your game on, go play
Hey now you’re a Rock Star get the show on get paid
And all that glitters is gold
Only shooting stars break the mold
…who’s also trying to pick a starting quarterback between Luke McCown, Daunte Culpepper and rookie Josh Freeman.
I didn’t realize Detroit cut Daunte Culpepper and he then signed with Tampa.
Interesting… when did the Lions trade Culpepper to the Bucs?
“who’s also trying to pick a starting quarterback between Luke McCown, Daunte Culpepper and rookie Josh Freeman”
“Daunte Culpepper”
Wow, you people really break the news early. Most people still think Culpepper is on the Lions and that Leftwich hasn’t been cut yet. You broke two news stories in an unrelated news story.
Or you were just lazy and didn’t bother looking up the QBs and took a guess.
He fessed up his style and gameplan. If any d-cord. has any clue, they’ll put a stop to his approach. He’s who again? One and out coach? The dollar corns may battle the Lions for worst in the NFC.
…
When did the Bucs acquire Daunte Culpepper?
Daunte = Byron ?
that makes a lot of sense, we have one of the best young offensive lines in the league, have what seems to be a great backfield and don’t have a good qb, running the ball as hell looks like a good idea, just hope our defense shows something.
The Bucs have Daunte now? I think you mean Leftwich.. easy to confuse.
ummm im pretty sure daunte culpepper plays for the detroit lions… why do reporters always mix up big black athletes? culpepper leftwich
“Jagodzinski, who’s also trying to pick a starting quarterback between Luke McCown, Daunte Culpepper and rookie Josh Freeman”
Uhhh, do you mean another black quarterback, Florio?
Really, Daunte Culpepper is battling for two starting QB jobs?
Daunte Culpepper? Really?
Fumblepepper?
I think you meant Byron Lefwhich, not Dante Culpepper
Perhaps out of necessity and also because of the preference of new offensive coordinator Jeff Jagodzinski, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are planning to orchestrate an aggressive, run-first game plan.
WOW!!!
Necessity?
I guess thats why when Morris was introduced to the press after his hiring he said this was the type of team he would want, it’s built that way.
Why do you think Clayton was resigned, it damn sure wasn’t for his “great” pass catching, it was for his downfield blocking and anything he does catch is a bonus.
By Daunte Culpepper do you mean Byron Leftwich? This website is losing all credibility.
good luck with this,oh by the way, don’t forget to stock up on all the running backs you can find.
Daunte Culpepper = Byron Leftwich
Culpepper is on the Lions, Leftwich is competing for the Bucs starting QB job.
Daunte Culpepper? When did the Bucs pick him up? Byron Leftwich.
You mixed up your black quarterbacks -Daunte Culpepper plays for the Lions, Byron Leftwhich plays for the Bucs.
Daunte Culpepper? I think you mean Byron Leftwich….
Did Daunte Culpepper get traded to the Bucs?
Duante Culpepper???????
you mean Leftowich…
i think you mean Byron Leftwitch
Duante Culpepper???
Try Byron Leftowich.
I think you mean Byron Leftwitch.
good day to you, sir.
did i miss something. i thought culpepper played for the lions and leftwhich played for tampa bay
Culpepper plays for the lions.
Maybe Byron Leftwich?
Daunte Culpepper eh? He get traded to tampa today? Nice fact check bright star
Daunte Culpepper ? Pretty sure he plays for the Lions. Nice.
“…who’s also trying to pick a starting quarterback between Luke McCown, Daunte Culpepper and rookie Josh Freeman.”
Wow Wilson, just wow. Daunte Culpepper is a Lion. Byron Leftwich is in Tampa. Don’t get the black QBs mixed up
Culpepper is a Lion but thanks for showing your insight to the buccaneer organization
Duante Culpepper? Pretty sure he plays for the Lions. Nice.
Daunte Culpepper is out of Detroit already ? lol
not that it matters a whole lot but doesn’t Daunte Culpepper play for Detroit or did he get cut & Tampa picked him up????
Since when did Daunte Culpepper join the Buccaneers?
I believe you meant to say, Byron Leftwich.
Did Tampa get Culpepper in the Supplemental Draft or something?
I wish I was playing against you in Fantasy Football! Pullpecker?
tampa lured him down there when they told him moss was now a buc.
detroit told fat albert that they had unlimited free sandwiches, thus luring him to daytwa.
So, when the Pats play the Bucs in Week 7, they sure won’t be looking for the play-action fake and dumpoff to Ward in the flat. No siree. That’ll get right by ‘em because they’ll only be expecting “smash-mouth, run-oriented football.”
My God, does anybody really care who Culpepper and/or Leftwich play for?
OK, everybody. Geez. Yeah, Florio got his former high draft pick, sorta crappy, heavy black QBs confused. At least he didn’t say Donovan McNabb was shot 4 times by some crazy beeotch. Oh, wait, he actually did say that.
ok, why is there 40 comments on culpepper isn’t a buc. i think after the third comment, people figured it out. and keep that information about them running the ball alot quiet. derrick ward is one of my late round sleepers picks this year. he will be a solid number two back this year.
dldavidlong: Don’t blame the commenters; blame the damn mods that take forever to approve a damn comment. Dammit.
