When our fearless leader checks his Sprint phone (See, I'm learning fast!) on his way back from his non-vacation, he'll see that I didn't wait so long.
All Pro defensive end Jared Allen is the latest to chime in on the Favre saga. In typical fashion, Allen doesn't hold back when talking about his likely future teammate.
"If we get Brett, then that's a bonus," Allen told Sam Farmer. "But let's either get it done and get moving on with it or let it go.
"It's not so much that it's a distraction because we're professionals and don't really buy into that. But it's annoying."
A nation of football fans just nodded in agreement. After praising Favre's place in history, Allen says the Vikings can achieve their goals, with or without Favre.
"Our goals going into the off-season weren't, let's win a championship if we get Brett Favre. It's, we're going to win a championship. And I feel like we have two able quarterbacks to get that done."
If it makes Allen feel any better, this chapter in the Favre story should be over soon. Favre plans to give the Vikings an answer by July 30th.
Perhaps these words from a prominent player like Allen will even speed up the process. (We can only hope.)
In the meantime, we'll try not to make any more Favre posts this Saturday.
At least until the VW bus pulls back into PFT headquarters.
Hey Jared, you know what else most of the world finds annoying?
1. Cheap shot artists.
2. Douchebags with multiple DUIs.
I find Allens haircuts annoying.
Gee is it because he isn't getting any attention... funny to see two "macho" men like Favre and Allen expose just how vain and starving for attention they actually are.
""If we get Brett, then that's a bonus," Allen told Sam Farmer."
So why wasn't the title of this post "Allen thinks Brett at QB will be a "Bonus""? On every supposed negative piece you do on Brett, the common theme is that they all agree that Brett will make the Vikings a better team. But you leave that significant part to the reader to find out on their own.
Yep, no media bias at all during this whole thing. lol
Still two more freaking weeks!
Any more annoying than his haircut?
"And I feel like we have two able quarterbacks to get that done."
Ya, whatever you say, you are a Defensive end so your opinion on the subject carries a lot of weight with the coaching staff. If fact I am sure Ziggy is pleased to read this because he wasn't sure which way to go until you spoke up.
If he is annoyed now, just wait till the drama of the mid-season and after one of those 3 INT games where the media will be polling all the players (as if they actually have a say) on the QB switch. The drama and BS that comes with signing Favre will be enough to make a man drink. Opps...
and on the 30th, bf will say give me 6 more weeks...
the vikes season doesnt open till sunday sept 13.
Jared....I LOVE having you as a Viking. But...you are annoying too.
You were a 9 year old little brat when Favre started playing in the NFL.
The Media is what is most annoying. If the media simply reported only what Favre/Childress or Wilf said there would have been very, very, very, very little news on this subject.
If in August any team in the league finds a way to add a player that will be an upgrade to their team then great! What player or fan wouldn't want that to happen. Sheeesh! Even if a team could add a player by the trade deadline in mid-season the fans would be crazy happy!
People are annoyed because the media has forced the issue all off season. 20 Years ago almost nobody would have even been talking about a similar situation until training camp started.
Would it have been nice for Childress/Favre/Cook or Wilf to clear the air and make everything open to us. SURE! But, that's just from my standpoint. Do any of us open up to all our workmates and neighbors about our plans when considering switching jobs or starting a new job. The more our nosey neigbors and media tried to make us spill the beans and then get upset because we didn't uggg ENOUGH ALREADY!
Just leave Favre alone. When he decides to come back we will all know.
Gotta love 69
Jared Allen sure talks an awful lot for a guy who takes off as many plays as he does.
Can't believe how many people on these blogs say 'Opps' instead of 'oops'. It's just the perfect word to make a mistake on.
What ????????
Brett Favre is thinking of coming back ? When the hell did he retire ?
Everyone whining about Jared Allen is just pissed they don't have him.
I guarantee you wouldn't give two shits about DUIs or cheap shots if he was on your team.
Fnally someone in that organization says the truth!
And anyone that finds Jared Allen annoying because of his haircut is a bitch or a total douche. the guy goes all out on every play and has one of the oddest and funniest personalities the NFL has seen in a long time. The DUI thing happened years ago he's been sober for 2-3 yrs and as Jared Allen says: 'O'Douls is delicious, its what beer drinkers drink when beer drinkers can't drink beer'
Also, if you really have a problem with Allen just go tell his little bro who is over in the middle east fighting for our countries freedom.
Or you could just walk right up to the 6'6 270 dude as he gets out of a blue 1960's caddilac that has a bull horns stretching from end to end on the front while he's wearing a cowboy hat down in Mankato next month. Cause I'll be there for an autograph and to watch a good ol' fashion ass-whoopin.
Lookin' forward to seeing you rope the caddle and rockin the mullet in '09 #69!
Sounds like Jared Allen doesn't really want Favre. To be honest, at this stage, Favre is an interception machine and I would much rather see what either Sage or TJack could do.
I wonder if Allen will find Favre annoying enough during practice to take a cheap shot at him.
I wasn't a big Allen fan when he was in Kansas City...thought he was over hyped when he came to Vikings last year. Every day we have news on athletes....so get over it Allen.....or is this just your way of getting in the news. The media strings things along....I agree with one of the comments: If we waited for Brett to talk to reporters we'd have 3 maybe 4 stories along the way instead of every day. I for one wait for them and read......it beats the 100 stories on McNair's death.
Jared who? ain't he that drunk guy? He is a good comedian tho. 2 able Qb's to get the job done? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
What a moron. Is he so stupid to think that any team decision would be brought to his drunk ass for approval anyway? He should keep his big yap shut and put all that energy into the coming season instead of creating problems within the team before training camp even starts.
AP is a very quiet pro. Just gets it done and is not at all outspoken. Allen has had his way with that being the case. So Allen sees one of the funniest most charismatic guys ever to play in the league possibly coming in. There goes Allen's camera time, and that pisses him off. Now there will be a qb there that can laugh in this guy's face. This is exactly what Allen needs. What has Brett done in his career vs what Allen has done? Please. Allen needs to shut up and play DE. If Allen retired and came back, only his family MIGHT be there to film that.
i work with troops every day. i respect a bunch of them, but they are saddled with a lot of politicians in the ranks nowadays.
they might think they are fighting for freedom, but the troops arent fighting for freedom.
"poor man's war, rich man's fight"
if they were fighting for freedom they would have secured the border, kicked out those who cause trouble, and taken washington dc back.
they are fighting for apparent prosperity, and so the zio-commie-banksters can continue to control "their" sandbox and "their" resources, without having to get "their" nails dirty.
it isnt our job to go fight everyone all over the world.
This may sound weird but I always admired Favre as a player. I always want the Vikings to win..It is more so with the Bears, Packers, And Lions because we face them twice a year. But as a fan of the game I appreciate individual accomplishments regardless of what team they are on. And there are players that I respect because of the approach they take to the game. Brett Favre, despite being a thorn in the sides of the Vikings, was a player I have always respected. And I AM EXCITED that a player of that caliber may join our team. I wish that it was not in the Twilight of his career, but regardless of that I will welcome him with open arms...
Look at all you Sally's trying to finds something to rag on this beast for. Quit the name calling an quivering in your panties, dude gets the job done period.
Who are these two capable Quarterbacks he is talking about?
This guy has no sense of viking tradition.
viking tradition and history have nothing to do with a championship.
First off the hate must stop hatters never proseper. Jarred Allen is a Beast on the field. Point blank period. You can allways rely on Allen to tell the truth. From his perspective all the Favre speculation and indision is annoying (bullshit) he's ready to ride with the quarterbacks that they have on the team now and if they get Favre than fine hell roll with him but he is sick of the waiting game and Brett having the whole team holding their breath and not knowing what's going to happen. I second what cliffcla said you gotta respect the guys like Favre who play the game hard, exite the fans, dominate on the field, and play through injuries. Favre and Allen both fit that mold and if they are teamates they should feed off of one another. The fact that they are both recovering alcoholics and good ol boy small town America types should give them some common ground if and when Favre becomes a Viking.
Everybody bitching about Jared Allen pretty much just needs to get over themselves. He's probably the best defensive end in the league, and he has a good personality.
I loved him when he was a Chief, and was very disappointed to see him go. I still like him as a person and a player though.
Additionally, I agree with him. I'm sure just about everyone playing for the Vikings would be thrilled to have a first ballot Hall of Famer playing quarterback for them, but the whole thing IS annoying. Brett Favre is one of my favorite athletes of all time, but it's irritating that he thinks he's so special that he can just decide to join a team (or not) whenever he wants.
"TiceWasBetter says:

..... as Jared Allen says: 'O'Douls is delicious, its what beer drinkers drink when beer drinkers can't drink beer' "
"O'Doyle Rules!" .... oh ..... wait .... nevermind
Official Mini line: We have full, total, and 1000% confidence in the QBs on our roster - whatever their names are - it's just that...
What does this have to do with Brett Favre?
Oh yeah it does.
since when is a league leader in INT's an upgrade? someone explain this to me
1 for 16 championship wise, and that 1 was 13 years ago, more INT than anyone who's ever played the game and the only QB to ever lose a home playoff game in GB. Yeah, he gets the job done.
I like to make fun of Allen's mullet, and he's a goof ball... but I wish the Pack would have gotten him. Vikes always seem to get the high profile guys, and while it hasn't gotten them over the hump yet, the additions of guys like Pat Williams, Antoine Winfield, and Jared Allen have paid huge dividends when combined with the drafting of Kevin Williams and EJ Henderson, etc. Ted Thompson, are you listening?!?
Nope, the Favre drama isn't causing any distraction in the Viking locker room this offseason. LOL Not at all.... Just wait until he shows up! This has disaster written all over it! It's been affecting team chemistry since the OTA'S and mini camps based on all the interviews. It's only going to get worse from here for the annual " Pre-Season Super Bowl Run".
Long live the king!
Allen says they can achieve their goals with or without Favre?
Well then, why go after him?
They achieved their goals last year right? I will give tavaris credit after he threw the pick he tried to chase the guy down.
Unless Favre's arm is magically back to how it was a few years ago, the vikes with or without him will still be a one-and-done. But, him being on the team will definitely put some butts in the seats of the Metrodome. And that Monday Night Football game versus the Pack will be one for the ages.
The vikings will do much better with farve, the experience he brings to the QB position is better by far than what we have right now. It will open things up for peterson and the running game. These people who say the vikings should wait and see how jackson developes are wrong. The rest of the team is ready, they just need a good QB to run the offense. They need this NOW not in 2 or 3 yrs. If they wait for the other quarterbacks to get it together, it will be to late!
