When the Philadelphia Eagles drafted prolific Missouri wide receiver Jeremy Maclin in the first round, it was an unexpected development.
Maclin wasn't supposed to last until the 19th overall pick, but the Eagles traded up two spots to land him.
Now, the Eagles are intent on getting Maclin signed to a contract in advance of the start of training camp on July 31.
According to Adam Caplan of Scout.com, contract discussions for Maclin are likely to accelerate next week.
Citing a league source, Caplan reports that negotiations have already taken place between the Eagles and Maclin's agents, Ben Dogra and Jim Steiner.
It's unclear exactly what sort of deal Maclin will receive, but last year's pick at his slot (Carolina Panthers offensive tackle Jeff Otah) reportedly received a five-year, $14.4 million contract that included $8.965 million in guaranteed money.
In two seasons, Maclin caught 182 career passes for 2,315 yards and 22 touchdowns. He also rushed for 668 yards and six touchdowns.
And Maclin generated a total of 2,626 yards on punt and kickoff returns.
Caplan also stated his agents dislike holdouts and will do everything in their power to have him signed before training camp.
If I were him, I'd ask for what the pick above him the year before got.
Reminds me of that other Missouri WR, Victor Bailey.
not victor bailey omg lol...but maclin sure did put up some impressive numbers in only 2 years
I'm still bitter. Since the Raiders didn't take Crabtree, why did they take Maclin??? I'm disgusted all over.
Watch out for undrafted free agent Brandon Robinson, out of Boston College, Eagles fans.
Jeremy Maclin is going to be a STAR for many years.
Hey Vox,
Your foolish comment reminds me of Week 17.
This guy is better than DeSean Jackson. Philly looks loaded at WR in the future.
Philly took Macklin because he is the real deal unlike that Crybabby Crabtree!{Eagles Rule}
how is maclin ever going to be an all star when he has to catch a football covered in puke??
Green horn what do the egirls rule superbowel partys.
Andy Reid got the title of dad of the year and Donovan got the title of choker of the year
The rest of the team starts there off season work outs in late Jan at the latest.
The Egurls should just phone in another poor season so we can get over with it
The only ones who make out are the city of Philly who get rich ticketing all the ahole fans that get locked up.
Hey Phillyhouse, your comments remind me of all those Super Bowls the Eagirls have won. Revel in the small victories kid, Lord knows you've never had a big one.
How many Superbowl have the Cowboys won this millenium?
What a cooincidence! It's the same as a the Eagles.
Now how many playoff games have the Cowboys won? Oh wait, that's a big goose egg, too! Looks like the Eagles are the better team.
Vox is just scared, because Maclin and Jackson are going to spend a lot of time this season waving goodbye to the Cowboy's secondary as they're running into the endzone.
Let's just hope DJax can hold onto the ball better when he's waving!
True to your name, bigbluefan, you spell as intelligently as I would expect a New Yorker to. Remember when we knocked you out of the playoffs last year? If Eli + Plax = Superbowl, then Eli - Plax = vacation for the Giants players in the first week of January. You can't say anything about the Eagles "phoning in another poor season" cause the Giants have had plenty more of those in the last decade than the Eagles have had. You, sir, are a toolbag.
