Feely says Reeves tried to reach out to Vick "daily"

In response to Friday's item from Terrence Moore of FanHouse regarding the inability of former Falcons coach Dan Reeves to get former Falcons quarterback Mike Vick to respond to Reeves' efforts to help Vick during the most trying two years of his life, we wondered aloud whether Vick might be avoiding Reeves possibly because Reeves acted as one of Vick's enablers early in his NFL career.

Not so, says former Falcons kicker Jay Feely.

On Saturday, Feely tweeted in response to our item with the following message:  "Dan Reeves tried emphatically to be there for Mike Vick as a coach and a father figure.  I watched him daily reach out to MV."

So if Vick isn't avoiding Reeves because Vick associates Reeves with all the folks who let Vick become the less-than-honorable man that he became, then maybe Vick hasn't changed.

Hell, Vick was a POS long before Dan Reeves entered the picture.......And he's still a POS now...He's been a POS since he was born......

Well DUH Florio!! Vick hasn't changed. He is just sorry he got caught and is trying to get back in the NFL because he has bills to pay. The best way for Goodell or anyone else to know for sure is ban Vick for 2-3 more years and see what he does. Just seeing someone's behavior change in a few months is nothing but the real Vick, whether truly sorry or sorry he got caught, will show over a 2 year span.

Can a Leapord to change his spots?

I've been reading and responding(vehemently in most cases) to all these mike vick stories. The public response on this forum at least seems to be f--k that douche. Where is all this alleged give him another chance outcry I've been hearing about? Cause I just don't see it.

Reeves shouldn't waste his time on garbage.

"... the folks who let Vick become the less-than-honorable man that he became ..."

So, uh, Reeves helped him pick out the dogs and cut the drugs and all that?

No one "did" anything to Vick. He had everything a person could want and he, himself, without any arm-twisting, chose to throw it all away. It wasn't an "oops, I shouldn't have driven while drunk" moment like Stallworth had. It was a cold, hard decision to be a thug for the long haul. He screwed up his own life and now he wants pity and a break because he's "so talented."

Reeves should send him one last note: "Screw you, Mike, I'm going home."

I was going to say 'douchebag', but POS works, too.

"...who LET Vick become..." less than honorable? So it's on everyone else that he chose to do the things he did? Wow....

Damn Dan, take a hint. I wouldn't want to hang out with you either, stalker.

I think EskinSux pretty much nailed it. I wouldn't go all the way back to birth, though. Maybe from the time he could walk and talk...

Sounds to me like Dan Reeves is just as big a POS as Vick is. Sounds like the two most prolific QB's Reeves has head coached hates him. Elway ran him out of Denver long before he was runnin thugs in Atlanta

Nah. Probably from birth. It's in the genes. People should have started scrutinizing him more when they saw what a worthless piece of shit his brother was. It's rare that one brother is completely useless, and the other one is spic-and-span (No, that's not a Ron Mexico joke).

What other incidents has Vick been involved in besides the dog fighting?

I always hear the talk of what a bad guy he is or POS but apparently there are a lot of other things that he's gotten into that I wasn't aware of. I know his brother Marcus was constantly in trouble at V-tech.

A second chance is when you are released from prison and you have your freedom back. Professional sports is not really a second chance kinda job, its a rare privilege that very few ever get. He f-ed it up so let him work in the real world now.

  16. Juan Corsair says: July 19, 2009 6:04 PM

    > What other incidents has Vick been involved in
    > besides the dog fighting?

    2001:
Ran dogfights in his parents back yard and garage in Newport News prior to entering into the NFL.

    2004:
Lent a truck registered in his name to two men who were arrested for distributing marijuana while driving it.

Was involved in the theft of an expensive watch while passing through a checkpoint at Atlanta's Hartsfield International Airport. The theft was caught on tape, and the watch was later returned through Billy "White Shoes" Johnson, known as the Falcons' "fixer".

    2005:
Knowingly infected a woman with genital herpes.

Add this to his conviction for running an interstate dog fighting ring, partaking in an illicit gambling ring, eight counts of animal cruelty and violation of his bond agreement by testing positive for marijuana while awaiting trial, and it is obvious this overrated POS is a complete waste of humanity who should never be allowed to return to the gridiron. End of story.

Remember, Vick was illegally fighting dogs - and when he spoke to the commissioner he lied through his teeth about it. Repeatedly....

Maybe he has learned his lesson. Maybe he has grown as a result of this.

But it is nothing that an additional year or so out of the league won't confirm.

If he truly has grown up, adversity will show us a lot about him.

Money can help cover up a lot of mistakes. Not having a lot of money will enable people to see the real Michael Vick.

waterboy, there was the whole knowingly-spreading-STDs thing....and the getting busted with a fake-bottomed water bottle that reeked of weed at the airport (which I don't think should be a crime, but still raises flags).....

  19. empty13 says: July 19, 2009 7:16 PM

for his faults, i bet reeves was trying to get vick to work harder and prepare for games and improve. so the falcons could really win big.

clearly, vick thought he didnt need to improve on his "perfection". (ask atlanta wideouts aboht that...) and that he wasnt going to learn much if anything from reeves - just another old white guy!

vick hung dan out to dry. and ookie was STILL giving interviews comparing himself to peyton manning just a few months before all the dogfighting news broke.

  20. Dolphinatic says: July 19, 2009 8:21 PM

Being that Vick is a convicted felon and he was in the pen while he "reached", perhaps he should have made it a "Courtesy reach (around)" if he wanted to get any kind of response.
That being said "Free RON MEXICO err MV" let him play ball. He paid his debt let it go. He should be free to spread the ball all over the field the same way he's free to spread the Herpa-titis (yes I know its herpes). I hear he completes about the same percent of passes (53.8%) as he does infect unknowing partners. Take that evil-do'er.

I truly love what O.J. Simpson and Michael Vick did for America. While the " good ole boy " network was working hard to continue to stereotype black men as " athletic " but without morals or intellect ( such as trying to make Vick a running back, eventhough he has one of the strongest arms in the league ) ..........while Vick and O.J. kept you distracted while you drank your moon shine on the step of your trailer.......PRESIDENT Obama was elected the 44th President of the United States of America.
So, eventhough the NFL doesn't want black quarterbacks in charge of the good ole white players..................The Commander in Chief is a Black Man!
So you good ole boys and girls can have leadership in sports ( a.k.a. the quarterback position ) Black America and Non - Trailer Park Non Blacks have moved on to bigger and better things ! Which is why this post is filled with only mainly responses from good ole boys and gals.

    let that marinade for a while....hahahahaha !

florio the problem with your original premise is it was based on the assumption that vick recognizes that he became a "less than honorable man". he clearly thought he was gods gift to humanity throughout his career and hasnt demonstrated even a hint of remorse since he got caught. f*ck him.

  23. iceman says: July 19, 2009 11:31 PM

dan and mike vick are both choke artists, reeves couldn't even win a damn superbowl with elway in his prime and a solid defense, no wonder vick ignored him.

Seriously, how many people can have their jobs interrupted to face multiple charges of illegal behavior, which leads to jail time, and still expect to get their jobs back when they are released from prison? Especially when you are one of the most well known individuals in your job?
And you cannot look at this as though Vick's only employer was the Falcon organization. The reality is that, due to the nature of sports, he worked for the NFL. He was not only the face of the Falcons, he was one of the primary faces of the NFL and their marketing. He cost the team millions and the league just as much.
So he served his time for his crime and he should be able to be a free man with an ability to work and make a living but how can you expect his former employer, who had to deal with the embarrassment and shame of his actions as well as the financial pitfalls that came along with it, to just allow him to return?
As many said, this was not a single incident of a stupid action, it was a lifestyle of criminal activity and misbehavior that he still shows no true remorse for. He only seems sorry he got caught.
He deserves to be free from jail, but he does not deserve to get another shot at the NFL. Try another league or another profession, just like everyone else would need to do.

    t-will -

I'm sitting here in my trailer on dial-up with a mason jar of moonshine letting your statement "marinade," and I am wondering, why someone as elite and intelligent as yourself, posted something so poorly written with so many misspelled words?

I have learned that when trying to point out the ignorance of others, I better make sure I don't look ignorant either. This will help in effectively getting your point across.

Let that marinate for a while...
